It was easy to predict that people will mention non-traitor Legions, its a popular subject and it always happens.
Ultimately this is a forum and short of being a moderator you can do nothing to stop people posting what they want, Forums are about free speech and you can't change that.
Also, WHY does it have to be only about Traitor Legions?

None-the-less, for me my favourite Legion was probably Night Lords.
However Imperial Fists(!!!) are also cool, as were the Alpha Legion.

If someone wanted to talk about loyalist chapters they should make their own thread. Free speech is an excuse for not being able to read and follow directions now? Perhaps its a way of getting around manners and hijacking the thread? Free speech has nothing to do with it.

After reading some of the fluff for Alpha Legion I'm starting to change my mind a bit. Having everyone introduce themselves as Alpharius is funny and using quick strikes and ambushes seems much more efficient than the normal astartes combat doctrine.

I made an apology to the OP. I would also add that the OP has responded in an inappropriate manner, have you seen anyone else respond in this manner on the forum if the topic veers off slightly? I have not, I've seen people politely ask for the topic to get back on topic, if that doesn't work ask a mod or ignore it. No need to spas out and start E-yelling.

Given that one of the rules within the website is to stay on topic and the topic specifically states Traitor legions then loyal legions shoulden't even be mentioned. Plain and simple, period. If I hurt anyones feelings with "E-yelling" by pointing out that what they have said dosen't belong then they should probably either grow a tougher skin or actually stay on topic so it dosen't happen. I'm not a patient man and I may not be a moderator but if I create a discussion and it starts to go off track I will try and bring it back as is my perogative, now considering that I repeatidly made it clear that it was about Traitor legions and yet members continued posting loyal legions being polite wasen't working and now it's clear not to do it.

And if anyone thinks they where singled out in my "E-yelling" you're wrong and the comment was directed at everyone both those who had responded or those yet to respond to make it absolutly clear what this thread is about and that personal interpretations of whose loyal and whose traitor aren't apart of the discussion.

Bottom line this survey if you will is about pre-heresy traitor legions (though technicly they wern't traitors pre-heresy but you guys know what I mean ) and so loyal legions shoulden't be brought into the discussion regardless if someone dislikes a legion or thinks they should be traitors for whatever reasons. Unless they are considered a traitor legion in GW fluff they are not a traitor legion. So to everyone involved with this thread, please stay within the boundries of the topic so that this thread can continue as intended.

Just because its a rule to stay on topic doesn't mean you can blow up on people you leave that to the mods after reporting people. As far as growing tougher skin maybe you should look at yourself regarding your thread you're letting yourself get bothered over a common enough thing. I'm not bothered by the E-Yelling but still its just as uncalled for.

And frankly your insistence on continually calling people out leads to more outbreaks of off topic discussions.

But like I said earlier I'd have to go with the Luna Wolves or Night Lords.

I find it funny that you think replying to comments made towards me is letting myself get "bothered". And then say that my posts keep taking it off topic when I already said let's move on and stay on topic and so it would have in fact moved on if not for your post

You're Legions are noted. The discussion is moving on

Alot of people have said the Thousand Sons and I've noticed in alot of other threads that they are a popular legion after the HH books about them where released. I know there fluff although I haven't been able to read the books yet and by rights the TS where forced into traitordom to survive, but what has been released in the HH books that has made the legion so popular now when it's always been known that they where forced to join Horus?

I almost think I should have made this into a poll just to see which traitor Legion was most popular in pre-heresy and which was least as there are some legions I don't think have even been mentioned (Iron Warriors, Emperors Children etc.)

Well he asked for traitor legions, anything else would be hijacking the thread. It's one of those blurry lines that's hard to define. And seriously, how hard is it to name your favourite out of 9 confirmed traitor legions? If you feel yourself necessary to use the words "technically" you know you're doing something wrong intentionally.

Thousand Sons have always been one of the most popular Legions and Chaos Space Marines, only more so after their own HH novel. I expect it's mainly the aesthetic and models of the army and their whole "I dont want to be a traitor" background, particularly regarding Magnus.
Also, there's often polls in the background forum about this very topic (except they also allow people to mention loyalists) and typically the its typically the Thousand Sons, Alpha Legion and Night Lords or Death Guard in the top 3 with the Luna Wolves and Emperors Children at the bottom.

The OP criticising people for not stating a single Legion or mentioning a loyalist legion is a way of getting around manners. Perhaps, instead of this minor thread encompassing just traitor legions and instead of creating another thread for loyalists, we could just avoid clogging up the boards and have it all in one thread? Like it usually is...

Ummm...somewhere...

For me it's a really close tie between the death guard, who were just awesome before the heresy, Thousand sons whom are just awesome for their culture and whole legion 'psychicness' , and Iron warriors...because siegeing lost all the fun after the heresy but TS gotta come up as the No*1

So tell me since I didn't repeatidly remind members that the discussion was about Traitor Legions (oh wait, I did) and since I didn't intend the thread to find out which 1 Legion stood out for everyone (oh wait, I did that to) yet they continued to include Loyalist legions in a discussion about Traitor legions you might want to reconsider who was being rude.

Perhaps, instead of this minor thread encompassing just traitor legions and instead of creating another thread for loyalists, we could just avoid clogging up the boards and have it all in one thread? Like it usually is...

This thread was created to discuss Traitor Legions. If someone dosen't like that fine, there is nothing making you post. If someone thinks that loyal legions should be included fine, make your own thread. If someone thinks that it's "clogging the boards" fine, that's your opinion. But the fact is I can create any discussion based on any topic I want as long as it fits within the rules of the website and within those discussions people can post whatever they want as long as they keep within the boundries of the discussion and what is intended to be discussed. If not they're breaking one of Dakkas rules.

Now instead of running to a Moderator I simply made it clear what this thread was about in a manner that caused most members to stay within the topic. If some of you want to think that's rude well to be honest I don't really care because it got the topic back on track untill members like you have to come in and bring it all back up again.

Now if someone actually continued posting content that didn't belong in this thread then they where either being vindictive and trying to disrupt the thread or an outright troll, but since no one did that Moderators didn't need to be involved because besides the few people groaning on about how rude I am the topic has stayed on course. So tell me, by continually derailing a thread that already got back on course without Moderator involvment who has the lack of manners?

Please remain on the topic of which Pre-Heresy GW (not Dornian ) Traitor Legion you like best. Not Loyal legions, not how rude I am. Any further mentionings of it will be considered as intentional trolling and then I will report it because it will actually warrant being reported. So lets get over it, move on and get back on topic shall we.

I find it ironic that your harping on people posting off topic (but on a related topic) is actually swinging the discussion far more off topic than the slightly-off-topic-related-topic posts.

I would also point out that pre-Heresy, there were no Traitor legions. Traitor legion is purely a Heresy and post-Heresy descriptor. So by your own criteria, there's no answer with the possible exception of the 2 lost legions (as two HH novels have no alluded that at least 1 of the lost legions was purged by Astartes).

My favorites pre-Heresy are Death Guard and Space Wolves. Something about the dichotomy of an implacable relentless grind versus unrelenting fury, I suppose.

Like everybody else, it's the Thousand Sons. The fact they could have prevented the whole Heresy if not for the Emperor ignoring Magnus' warning, due to the edict against sorcery and the warp. Liked them better before they were all dust mummies though.

Haha indeed

My personal faves are the World Eaters. For me, they are the closest match to the original consideration of a Space Marine, of armoured psychopaths used as the most brutal shock-troops imaginable, and were this to be real life rather than fantasy (bare with me here! ) I can see them being the kind of thing that would exist. None of this namby-pamby, "I shall smite thee, with mine sword, heathen!" spoken by someone who sounds like a mix between a Thespian and He-Man - the only noise would be a gutteral 'Ungfh!' as they headbutt their way through a wall or jump out of a rhino with their bolter firing, over the bodies of their compatriots who they watch fall without any hesitation. There is little room for personal heraldry or character, the unbelievable training regime of these troops would leave little more than a hollowed out shell of a human being when it was done.

There is a quote in the original RT book which I think sums up this conception of Marines quite well:

"Space marine assault squads are equipped with hand-to-hand combat weapons such as chainswords, power swords and bolt pistols. Entry into buildings, or through the reinforced hulls of space craft, is gained using a las-cutter or phase-field generator. As the first wave of attackers goes through, casualites are always very high. The first troopers into the breach are almost inevitably shot dead instantly. Inclusion in an assault squad is a great honour. There is never any shortage of volunteers for suicide missions such as this."

Ho Hum. Somewhat hypocritical of you considering that you are going off topic right now
I thought he did an excellent job of explaining why space wolves can be considered a traitor legion and did say what his favourite Traitor Legion was then elaborated upon that, essentially staying within your boundaries.
