Really interesting so far. I am not sure I agree on the gate homing beacon but that is a discussion for YMDC.

Is there a specific reason the Seraphim assaulted after failing SotM? I know that you have to use SotM before assaults are declared and in the past I have just opted to hold back on the assault when I fail the test.

@Zefig
Yeah, the bone colored marines are mine, the gray ones are White925's. I'll shoot you a PM with the colors.

I've been meaning to get a P&M blog going in the painting section for ever, just haven't gotten around to it.

@Calypso2ts

Thanks dude, it was a really fun game.

As for Gate/homing Beacon, we covered it in pretty great depth in YMDC a year or two ago and showed that grammatically, the rules indicates that you can use a homing beacon for gate, but not a teleport homer. The wording makes it a little unclear in the rule, but if you break it down it is evident.

But you're right, that is an issue for YMDC.

This game was my first time fielding 2 Seraphim units. I made a couple newbie mistakes, one of which was assaulting even though they failed their SotM test. Another was not deploying them behind jy2's Land Raiders.

@jy2: The btrp looks awesome. Keep up the good work!

If it makes you feel better Sabr I have a terrible habit of getting my Seraphim killed early and often as well. I just really want them in assault so I force units to bunch up and hit and run away from them...and then they usually end up dead.

Sorry for the delay. Let the battle continue!....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Space Wolves 2

SW movement.

I believe he immobilised his white rhino either on terrain or from our shooting last turn. Anyhow, grey hunters get out and move.

Long Fangs try to block off terminators.

SW shooting immobilises and weapon destroys 1 exorcist....

...kills off 2 scouts....

...kill a bunch of bunched-up battle sisters with frag blasts....

...and finally some seraphims. They then fail their morale and fall back slightly.

Battle between canoness and thunderwolves rages on, as the celestians are able to hold them off for another turn (though their canoness gets squished to a bloody pulp).

Alliance 3

Alliance movement. Rhino pulls back towards objective. Seraphims regroup. Exorcist immobilises itself on terrain.

Celestians go after the long fangs. I also shoot Bjorn right in his face point-blank with my LRR multi-melta and blow him up....but then he makes me re-roll and I instead take out his DCCW.

Terminators get ready to assault.

In shooting, Celestians wipe out long fangs.

Terminators assault and wipe out long fangs and then consolidate 6".

Celestians survive another turn of combat! My terminators need to take notes from these little ladies on how NOT to get b*tch-slapped by some big bad wovles.

Here's a funny little story. My lone terminator regroups, moves 15" and then assaults about 5-6" his 3 grey hunters on their objective. I get owned, but that was almost 21" of movement for my terminator.

More to come....

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Space Wolves 3

Space Wolf movement.

Grey hunters with Rune Priest heads towards my objective (with scouts on it).

SW prepare to shoot my terminators on the right flank.

After all their shooting, I lose another 4 haminators.

Grey hunters and Bjorn attack the celestians (after shooting them first), who become invulnerable. Before....

....and afterwards.

Wolfstar finally manages to tear the sisters apart.

Alliance 4

Alliance movement.

Rhino zooms 12" for my right objective.

Immolator tries to block off his rhinos to our left objective.

Termies get ready to pounce.

My redeemer fires its flamestorm cannon at the 3-grey hunter unit and thunderwolves. I fail to harm the wolves but do kill 2 hunters. Unfornately, it wasn't the meltagunner.

In assault, may terminators multi-charge both long fang units and proceed to break both of them, causing them to run off the board. Unfortunately, those same long fangs also manage to kill 3 of my termies! Man...my termies really need to go back to How-to-make-a-save school.

Space Wolves 4

SW movement.

Warning! Beware of rapid thunderwolves!

White925's grey hunters go after my left objective.

Rune Priest's unit disembarks and climbs the terrain.

In shooting, the Rune Priest jaws my 2 scouts on the objective, and the both fall through the crack of his a$$ (no, just kidding, but really...the crack did open up on the ground and swallow them both).

They blow up the rhino that was heading towards my right objective.

In assault, 1 celestian survives! Damn, those girls are tougher than my haminators!!!

Melta-hunter blows up 1 land raider and the Wolf Lord blows up the other.

Thunderwolves blow up the chimera and kill 2 stormtroopers, pinning them in the process.

Finally, don't know how, but those grey hunters manage to blow up a immolator moving at cruising speed. Some sisters die and they fall back.

To be concluded....

But you did a good job of whittling down my terminators to a very manageable number, killing 7 of 10 before I got to contesting range. I still can't believe I lost 3 terminators in assault with 2 long fangs, of which 1 even failed their counter-attack!

Anyways, back to the report......

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alliance 5

Alliance movement. Sisters converge onto the wolfstar.

Celestians use faith to become fearless and regroup.

Terminators go to contest SW objective as well as multi-assault.

The combined might of sister shooting annihilates what was left of the wolfstar unit.

Celestians melta 2 hunters here, who then fail morale and fall back.

Space Wolves 5

Land speeder typhoon moves flat-out to contest the middle objective, not that it mattered as the Alliance was out of claiming range.

1 wolf lord who broke off from the wolfstar unit and some grey hunters go to contest our left objective.

Rune Priest and grey hunters go to claim our right objective.

Space wolves wreck the contesting immolator with shooting and then kill off the last celestian in assault.

They now have their own objective as well.

Finally, we are contesting the Space Wolf 2nd objective.

Because the store was closing, we ended our game on Turn 5, with Space Wolves owning 2 objectives, Alliance 0 and 2 objectives contested.

Victory to the Space Wolves!!!

How do you like the termi-bomb jy2?

I've considered running a similar list, but sprinkling in some LC terminators and running a Libby in terminator armor with Gate & Null Zone.

I'd probably not take the Land Raider. People @ my FLGS just have too many ways to deal with them.

@jy2: No problem.

That was an intense game. First time I faced Thunder Wolves and so many Missiles. Doubles 6 Long Fang squads is tough to beat.

Thanks for the great game Reecius, Frankie, and jy2!

I love it. It has the potential to cripple certain armies with a 1st turn strike. However, it is not a balanced list, just like nob bikers or wolfstar space wolves. It'll either beat face against a lot of builds, or get beaten down by others. It is a rock list, and can be taken down by scissors lists (i.e. very fast armies like mechdar and DE or horde armies like nids and orks, psyker battle squad IG, etc.). But it is very fun to play, plays fairly quickly and scares the sh*t out of a lot of opponents.

Just beware of Dawn of War, as that will ruin all your plans.

The following week, I tried another version of my Ravenguards with Shrike, libbie, 20 assault terminators and 10 vanguards in a rematch against Reece and Frankie (White925). That list was arguably even scarier, with the potential for a 1st turn charge by melta/storm shield/power fist wielding vanguards. Too bad my 520pt vanguards mishapped and died against Reece.
