Anyways, is anyone actually planning on going to this?
I keep hearing from everyone with a ticket coming that they don't even plan on attending.

I'm serious, I have yet to hear anyone talk with excitement about going to it.

Also, maybe if you are going to Adepticon or Nova we can.

I'm planning to go, depending on timing and cost. Vegas is usually cheap to fly to, and I've never been.

The format could be better, but as Jwolf pointed out, it can work okay as well. The caliber of player should be quite high, overall.

I agree with this. Although some forms of rules/play abuse which might be debateably legal can also be WAAC; stuff like the old Fanatic Slingshot in WH, or interleaved unit mutual cover saves, before that was FAQ'd.

I disagree with this. Some players quite legitimately attend tournaments more to play some games and see cool armies than with any expectation of winning the thing. In their case, "taking every legal advantage possible" may be beside the point, and contrary to their maximum enjoyment of the experience.

Frogsinwinter, gamasutra.com in general is a great starting point (especially that Doug Church article on game design tools that's linked to from the earlier post).

sirlin.net has been mentioned many times as a great starting point for competitive play stuff of all kinds.

I really rate the Designer's Notebook site too:

Indeed, I think that the statement by fearspect is a bit shortsighted.
- you don't need to make a list with every legal advantage to win or be competitive.
- "every legal advantage" can change depending on the player, meta game, opponents and tournament format- so what does that even mean?
- The better players win over the players with the "most advantages" lists. If a a good player takes a very advantageous list, they can still lose to a better player, after all.
- I personally like to win, but I enjoy being able to play against the best players available and I don't want to win simply because my list so according to this logic, if I want to go to a tournament with a list that is not taking every legal advantage possible (like maybe my footdar wraithghuard army) am I going for the wrong reasons?

Just throwing some thoughts out there on that comment. Also, on a side note, I didn't get anything either about this but I hope everyone that can go goes, just for the gaming and so on. I would love to get some open gaming in against some of the "cream de la creme" of the 40k community.

That's very succinct, exactly!

Talked to Ed tonite. There should be some info coming pretty soon. Both for people with tickets, and for TO's that applied to be in next years circuit.
