If the chapter are meant to be rooted in Arthurian legend they will be very humanitarian. They will have psykers as advisors but may not trust them much. Some companies may have an emphasis on mobile warfare. Fleet based chapter.

I agree, the IF would make a good parent chapter. The Salamanders may also fit this role as they are very protective of "regular" humans as far as I am aware, as well as having other desirable traits.

Why Blood Angels? The Salamanders and the IF fit his initial idea much better.

Personally I would stray away from the BA's - their gene seed is too unstable and the black rage is something that I don't really see as being part of a more knightly SM force. Of course, that is just my point of view.

Another alternative is to have a mongrel chapter created simply from the gene banks of one of the gene vaults, with members of various chapters being invited to train and raise the chapter in its formative years.

A (plot) device like that could be very handy in terms of the chapter not being entirely in control of the drive systems (for example they can control when to enter the warp, but not where they exit), so it keeps on roving around the galaxy/warp with a different mission every week (think Space 1999 (if you are that old ), or Sliders or Stargate Universe for something a bit newer ).

Thus they have to continually crusade throughout the Imperium (and possibly beyond).

They can be descendants. A chapter doesn't always have to follow the legions/chapter beliefs they can take certain bits and add others.

Some new chapters crusade along side an older, more experienced chapter when they are first formed.

Perhaps DarthLakey's SM campaigned along side the White Scars, or some other bike mounted force? Or it was formed from the "speed freaks" in the IF/Salamander force

That could work, I approve of that idea. Sounds like the Wanderers a bit though.

Dude you have about 7 chapters. Some of them are gonna sound like other peoples work and vice versa.

It works with the space hulk thing that sounds awesome. Only one chapter badass enough to do that is the Space Wolves.

I'd go with what one of the earlier posters said. Give them an overriding Quest, perhaps for a, or e'en THE 'Holy Grail', or a fancy Spear, or something.

Lots of swords. Lots of heraldry, maybe something more knightly such as how the Scouts don't serve in separate squads, but instead act as Squires to the main marines. Shy away from exact Arthurian names; instead of the leader being Arthur, make it Arturius. Librarian Merlyle. Apothecary Nimure.

Instead of Bikes, give them a little bit of throwback. Give them horses. 40k Cavalry has a lot going for it, and very few codices use it. Some of them might have robotic or cyborg horses.

Perhaps you can only become a member if a family member was among their ranks, sort of a Nobility aspect of it.

Possible Fluff4U:

Fearful that the Omnisiah is slowly dying on his Golden Throne, the Knights of the Emperor have held to a self-imposed gease, a quest to find the one object in the Galaxy that might heal the Savior of Mankind- the Holy Grail. Said to be a relic of ancient times, even older than the Emperor himself, the Grail, it is claimed, can heal even the most greivous of wounds, both of body and spirit.

Riding out upon their mighty steeds, Captain Gawaim and his vassals roam tirelessly across the galaxy, following hints and leads, never resting in their search. But a true Vassal of the Emperor does not disdain from helping his lords other, less fortunate subjects, and whenever a cry for help is heard, the Emperors Knights are quickly there, breaking through Xeno hordes with horse and lance, crushing heretics beneath their armoured boots, and lifting the spirits of all who see them with their pageantry and nobility.

Crusading for a set of golden wheels for the golden throne

Also, have you thought of using armoured horses rather than bikes?

I think the Warriors of Chaos horses would be your best bet if you went that route.

Edit: Ninja'd on the horse idea

And robo horses would be do-able. The advantage of basing them on the WoC knights is that their horses are already fairly beefy.

The quest to find something to revive the Emperor is a good one. Leman Russ did something similar.

Hey, have them breed horses on High Gravity worlds. and I think I remember reading somewhere that Marine armour is actually rather light, being made up of lightweight composites and ceramics. Still need a big warhorse, but if a big wolf can carry a Viking Marine, then I'm sure animals that have been bred for millenia as pack animals can carry a Knightly Marine.

Oh, and give them some sort of fancy special heavy weapon with the Lance usr.

was gonna go with horses but i though it would look silly as marines are too big; i already assembled mine on bikes, but I may make a unit on horses WOC of course), and give them hunting lances (rough rider marines!). The Chapter masters name is Gawain not Gawaim whoever said that.
thanks for the ideas for whoever posted about the holy grail. keep the ideas coming!!!

Dont like the WOC horses too much; too many spike and such.
like the bretonnian ones better because more room for heraldr and such.
does anyone have any horses they would be willing to sell/trade because I dont want to buy a box of brettonian knights for a conversion i wont be able to use all the time

like the idea of a lance heavy weapon.
any ideas for its stats?
because i dont want it to be like theeldar and dark eldar ones.

Call it a Heavy Lance, S8 AP3 R48" Heavy 1 Lance, and have it cost about equal to a Missile Launcher, available for heavy weapons teams and Tac squads. That's longer range, less AP than the Eldar ones.
