I don't know about you but the mere fact that your vendettas are shooting infantry is already rendering it ineffective. Your army should be complementing the vendettas for anti-infantry and not turning the vendettas as a silver bullet for everything.

Well, you could always use them as last minute objective grabbers in case they've got nothing to shoot at, their mobility and firepower are what makes them cost effective IMO but, hey to each his own .

I haven't got my codex to hand at the moment, but aren't the HB pairs 20 points per V, not 10?

On Leman Russes, yes. Valkyries/vendettas get them for ten.

Vendettas, almost always with heavy bolters... are the absolute backbone of my imperial guard armies.

And there isn't always a tank to shoot at. Additionally, sometimes all you need to do is just cause a couple of casualties to an infantry unit so you can weaken resolve them off-table.

And also there is this army out now called dark eldar... heavy bolters ARE anti-tank against them.

Additionally, when facing long fang spam, I don't care if there is a razorback on the table, my first priority is to kill off as many split-fire long fang models as possible, heavy bolters help.

I could continue. The point is, 5 points per heavy bolter, on a vehicle that has to sacrifice nothing to fire those heavy bolters (was already going to move 6" to fire three lascannons) is QUITE a bargain. And I can wear out my keyboard listing tournament situations in where I have been happy I had those heavy bolters.

Well I fight a lot of armies regularly (SW, BA, Vanilla Marines, Nids, DE, Orks) and never had the use for HBs even with Nids and Orks(Busy shooting MCs and Kans). For the other armies they're mostly mech and I always have something to shoot at plus, my Vendettas are usually their first priority so that's that. For DE, they have night shields so HBs aren't really that good for me IMO.

You could use HBs I suppose if you have the points but as much as possible I'd rather not since I could use those points for special weapons or bodies.

10 points for a pair of heavy bolters is a steal. Some of us have to pay 25 points for HB sponsons. And HBs can pen AV 10, so if you are facing DE you are laughing.

This almost deserves it's own topic, but when it comes to upgrades, I have a specific way of building my list. Any unit I use has a standard load-out when I first add them. My CCS always has three meltas, my power blobs are always 21 men with a commissar and PWs. Most of the time, they represent the bare-bones units, taking the minimum upgrades to be where I want them. This means that I cram more units into a list before I clutter it with upgrades. Then when I have too few points to buy more units, I go back and add upgrades. The HBs on a Vendetta are pretty much my first choice. So, yes, special weapons and more units take precedence over HBs, but rarely does another upgrade trump them if there are leftover points.

More generally about Valks and Vendettas, I don't think I understand why the Hellstrike and Hellfury missiles are even options. On a Vendetta, if you wanted large blast bolter fire, you should have taken a Valk with MRP and been able to fire them every turn. On a Valk, if you wanted Anti-armor shots, you should have taken a Vendetta. I really am baffled about them.

Look at your comment. Back to mine. Back to yours NOW BACK TO MINE. Sadly, it isn't mine. But if you stopped trolling and started posting legitimate crap it could LOOK like mine. Look down, back up, where are you? You're scrolling through comments, finding the ones that your comment could look like. Back at mine, what is it? It's a highly effective counter-troll. Look again, MY COMMENT IS NOW DIAMONDS.

Anything is possible when you think before you comment or post.

Yeah GW and their shenanigans ). They're probably included for fluff purposes.
