Great report, and I'll have to agree with all the preceding comments on your army. It looks great, and I really like the idea of Native American/First Nations Space Wolves for some reason.

Thanks for the write-ups... I was interested to hear what the rest of your weekend was like.

I talked to nash afterwords, and of course you were right. You were entitled to at least have a judge come over and look at the terrain, rearranging it if he feels it needs to be rearranged.

And I know meltdown did their best to fill those tables with terrain, and some tables almost had enough complete LOS block. But mostly, there was not the appropriate amount of terrain. There just never is... which is why I deviously keep taking IG to tourneys.

IG are designed to be an army that creates REALLY deadly fire lanes. They are supposed to make certain areas of the table just devastating to be at. But when there is only LOS interfering terrain, and not pure LOS blocking terrain, then those 'fire lanes' become the entire table.

I got you with that, and I DEFINITELY got Somnicide with that. His bikes just had to turbo boost right into the open, and then just clench their teeth and grip their handlebars. that strategy didn't work out for them. And it certainly didn't work out for your razors and speeder.

We will be spending the next 10 months creating 32 terrain sets and 32 tables for the next GT in january 2012. I'll be doing video descriptions of each completed table, there will be a major emphasis on the appropriate amount of LOS block.

Expect dark eldar, eldar, tau and demons to do MUCH better.

And about your painting... Dude, I was raving about it all weekend. The execution was well done, and the concept of native american space wolves is really cool as well. You definitely deserved your 2nd place... and competitive players who play a tight game with a hard list, but still deliver great paint jobs and great theme are paragons of the hobby.

Painters who call people cheesy, or tourney players who claim they 'can't' paint make me sad. So serious kudos for being a double threat (triple if you count your great sportsmanship)

Oh and can you ask your rune priest if its ok for me to have some of those pancakes he is standing on?

Please check out my current project blog

Feel free to PM me to talk about your list ideas....

Hahaha, it is fun to say, right? And thanks, that is my baby army, been working on it for years and it is stupidly big. I am part Cherokee so I thought it would be cool to make an army with a Native American theme.

@Shep

Hahaha, Adam actually pointed that out to me, about the Rune Priest standing on what looks like pancakes! That cracks me up because it is so true.

Thanks for the kind words man, you are a great opponent and don't sweat that terrain issue. It is my responsibility to take action if I think something isn't correct. No hard feelings on my part at all.

Your army is flipping amazing, too. I remember watching your painting threads on Dakka years ago, and it was cool to finally get a game in with you. I agree, the tables need to be broken up or shooty armies will dominate (which is why I too, keep bringing the wolves).

We are going to be making a lot of terrain for the GT we are organizing up here and we will also have a lot of LoS blockers to make sure it is a more enjoyable game for all armies.

One way we have noticed that really helps with the LOS is to not put doors or windows on the ground floor of the buildings. Just assume those are the load bearing walls and the ones with windows and doors are the collapsed ones ;-)

I am bummed we didn't get to play, but hopefully next time around!

@Shep

Try to get some of that LOS blocking terrain done for March, because I am bringing Tau.

Also, us Tourney players who say they can't paint are just as depressed about it as you.

and I am just going to echo that Reecius's army looks awesome...as much as I like Earth's 8-hours-of-painting-every-day-at-work Orks, I would have voted it best painted. And it looks like it took freaking forever too, I can't imagine painting in that style as I lazily wash/drybrush my army.

@Somnicide
Yeah your army looked sweet, I hope we get to play next time, as well.

I agree, making the bottom floor of buildings solid or with only one or two openings helps a lot. That is how I make my tables here at home.

@Lambadomy
Yeah, Earth's army looked pretty stellar. I have to say he deserved to win best painted.

The style I use on my wolves takes forever. It looks really clean but man is it time consuming. I like my bugs a lto more as they are wash and dry-brush, too! haha.

LOS-blocking terrain? That means my nids are gonna rock! 9 hive guards, 6 biovores and a t-fex, all protected by the Swarmlord. Who needs stinking LOS when I will blow you away just the same.

Yeah, LOS blocking terrain makes the game more enjoyable. It is less about packing in maximum guns and more about maneuver, which is how it should be, IMO.

Yeah, I have to admit, LOS blocking things really make it a new game and really opens it up to be more tactical and just generally more fun.
