Your snow needs footprints though

D'oh!! Ach, crivens!! You're correct. That would have been a nice touch, but at this point it isn't going to happen. I put a blob of clay on the base and pushed a model into it. Primed white, than a watered down ghost gray (very light blue/gray), a layer of woodland scenics snow, drybrush white. I think it creates a nice little effect.

Thanks, they helped produce two healthy sons.
I don't think it would have been possible to finish this army without the different schemes. some people are able to paint their guard armies in a more "traditional" manner, but I don't know how they do it.

Take care

Great stuff. I especially like the original, urban camo scheme. Makes them look like a regiment of Guardsmen from an Ashworld.

Like the enclosed faces on all the models, makes them stand out along with the very effective camo. How did you decide on the special weapons for the different environments, or did you just do it?:L
interesting to know?

Thanks.

Decision process regarding special weapons went something alsong these lines.
Meltagun for short ranged fighting of an urban environment (along with the utility of an autocannon).
Grenade Launcher because it went with missile launcher for desert and I had many, many grenade launcher.
Plasmagun to warm things up in the cold
So basically what I thought would be good fits of special and heavy weapons and not some grand strategy.

Here are some WIP pics of an infantry squad. Pretty much the only thing left is to paint the metal parts .... erm ... metal.

Thanks and take care

Hi all,

I finally made some time to take pics of the finished winter squads.

This brings the total points up 1,850. I included a couple of pics of the entire army.

I have three heavy weapons squads in the works along with three vendettas. The movement trays should be done in time for 40 Hours of 40k @ Maplewood Hobby

Thanks and take care

Thanks. Silly goose, everyone knows there is no chocolate in the 41st millenium (at least according to GW)

I had 3 heavy weapons teams leftover and rather than let them sit in a box I thought "what the heck why not paint up some mortar squads".

Here are some WIP pics of 9 mortar teams, yes 9 teams

The first pics were taken before tonight's painting session. I worked on winter squads and "before and after" pics are towards the end.

Thanks and take care

Part of me thinks the seperate camo types look silly, Part of me thinks the seperate base types look really silly, Part of me thinks the Munitorium screwing up would easily explain it, Part of me knows exactly why you did it, part of me thinks why not turn it into 3 seperate armies. All of me thinks this looks great!
I'm really impressed by the painting especially visors and the varied heads look great. For motivation when doing a big horde I find taking your time, having deadlines and having lots of different projects on the go at once works wonders. To be honest I'm almost planning to do the same thing in reverse having lots of different regiments on the same base style.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Thanks. Painting 100+ guardsmen the same colors was NOT an option. I can barely make it through a space marine army
If any one style gets made into it's own army it will be the desert style (my favorite), but don't hold your breath.

I've been following your chaos beastmen and islandwalla blogs and both are sweet

Totally agree with your assessment of completing horde armies. I do have this little project going as well: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/353140.page

I played four games last weekend during 40 hours of 40k at Maplewood Hobby (New Jersey) and found out a few things about the army. They had a 2000 point tourney as part of the event.
1. Sentinel squads are really, really bad. Time to get the Vendettas ready to go.
2. Mortars are not particularly effective, but fun to use. They stay.
3. The set-up trays I made are much to big.
4. First rank fire is awesome.

On to some pics. The following pics show the WIPs of the mortar teams.

Oh man how can you paint 40 Guardsmen all the same scheme?! It took all of my willpower to finish a 6-man Elysian squad today.

Looks really classy though. The different schemes are nifty - I might have to steal the idea!

I try to finish them as quickly as possible. Tabletop quality is good enough for me (for this army). Remember, the best ideas are stolen ideas

At Mechanicon 2010 I won two Eldar vehicles which I promptly traded for a Valkeryie. I picked up a couple of more a little while ago. I've wanted to put these together for a few months and after 40 hours of 40k I found much needed motivation after discovering how bad sentinel squadrons really are. Here are some WIP of the winter Vendetta.

Thanks and take care

The Vendetta looks good in the winter scheme. The camo looks a bit fuzzy around the edges though. Will you be touching up the pattern or was that planned?

Hi all,

I took more time off from painting than I intended and now it is time to play catch-up.

After reworking the army list and removing all Sentinels I was able to add three heavy weapons squads, one Valkyrie, one Valkyrie with rocket pods, and one Vendetta. The heavy weapons squads are already done and the vendetta is partially complete. Time to get cracking on the Valkyries!

The bases are complete. I used jewelry hooks and 5/32" rod to attach the flyers to the bases.

Washes were a bit more tricky than anticipated, but after a few attempts I found something acceptable.

Next up, metal bits.

Thanks and take care

I started dark lining the desert valkyrie. I will be inking the "tracks" with a dark brown ink. The following pictures show the difference between lined and unlined sections. The lining doesn't translate well to photos, but it makes the model pop a wee bit more.

Ach, crivens I dinna anser tha one. It was not planned. I tried the same style as the others, but it looked horrible with the winter colors. Call this a happy accident. It wan't planned but I like the results.

The flyers are almost done. Just waiting for some good weather to matte coat the flyers and than gloss varnish the cockpit windows and sensors.
