SM and tau
SM would probs be the assaulting force with something like assault marines tactical squad scouts and landspeeder or ironclad chaplin or commander
tau i reckon would benefit from fire warriors x2 2 crisis suits if its a new codex i expect something like shadowsuns suit and a stealth team maybe some kroot for defending

I reckon it'll be back to the Tyranids. They always pick a numerous, faceless horde-y type army to be foil to the Spehss Mahreeeens and really only Orks and 'Nids fall into those categories.

I like the idea of Chaos Marines vs Guard. It's dramatic, even thrilling, and could well use the 13th Black Crusade as a backdrop. Since that's the 'latest development' in the storyline, it would also make sense for a new edition. Plus, the potential box art would be wicked. Craftworld Eldar versus Necrons would be really awesome, and there is a lot of potential there: the two armies are a fine contrast, colorful war artisans versus ghastly monolithic revenants; ancient enemies clashing one final time while the galaxy teeters on the edge of total madness. The thought of plastic fire dragons and banshees is tantalizing. So much for creative thinking. I'm going to go with Ultramarines vs Tau or Necrons as likely, with Tau most likely.

yeah the only problem with guard is the model count would be a bit high to make it viable and they mainly rely on tanks
grey knights (including stormtroopers) vs CSM would work great

The only reasons I see not to have GKs or CSM are that they're both rather specific in what you can use them as, compared to vanilla marines. With a generic Ultramarine set, you can turn them into Space Wolves, Blood Angels, any of the Codex Chapters, Dark Angels, Black Templars, or even CSM with a small amount of converting. You cant really do that if you got Grey Knights or CSM.

Ok this is totally me dreaming and will never happen but imagine this:
GW creates a starter box that contains SM (because they are the GW poster child) w/ all the extra stuff (books, dice, templates etc) AND a coupon for a Special Edition Battle Force.
So you buy the Starter Set and you get the coupon and go online to redeem it. (I have not worked out the details so shush)
GW gives you the choice to pick one 40K Special Edition Battle Force that is equal to 1 HQ, 2 Troops & 1 Heavy or 1 Elite (or 1 whatever that fits for the army).
GW could then just grab the existing boxes/blisters from their stock and ship it to you.
This dream has more holes in it than a Ork Trukk but dreams don't always make sense.

That kind of a promotion was implimented at a local GW shop a good half-decade ago. However you just got a battle force with a discount rather than a selection of HQ, Troops Heavy and Elites. Combined with the fact that back then the starter set only gave you one squad each made it less of a commitment to marines or nids, and much more flex room.

I expect the next big push from GW to be for Tau.
I think appearance wise the average joe likes BattleSuits as much as they like superhuman marines.

Blood Ravens vs Chaos Space Marines would probaly be good from a marketing point of view.
I think they should also up the price by £20 and chuck some more models in. There are a lot of games out there now where £80 is quite a reasonable spend to get in to a game.

Here is my hope.
Ultras vs. Necrons.
Similar stat lines, but the necrons need a TON of plastic love, much more than the Tau do. Necons could have new plastic Tomb Spiders, Flayed Ones, Pariahs, or Immortals and that is not even counting something new. The Tau actually have a lot of plastic kits. There only a few things you need to buy in large quantities that are in metal in the tau book, (pathfinders and kroot hounds come to mind).
THEN
When they make ULTRAMARINES THE MOVIE 2, they should have the story be the same story as the 6th edition box set. The single pose HQ's would be the guys form the movie and it could come with a scenario for you to fight some of the battles from the movie itself. I would love it and buy it.

I'll bet a dollar it's Necrons and here's why:
1. High points = low model count.
2. Necrons have got to be updated either before 6th edition or at the same time that it comes out. No other Xenos codex is so far behind.
3. Power armored super soliders vs. Undying robot Monsters. Tell me that won't sell to anyone who likes action, and I'll tell you you're wrong.

Im all for Necrons Vs Marines.
However I'd love IG vs Eldar. Seriously, lets have a starter set where a 3+ save isn't mandatory on one half of the armies included
(hell for the IG, it isn't even used. As much as I love them, tech priest engiseers suck!)

My money is on Tau. Why?
1) They are a relatively easy army to learn.
2) They are in line for a codex update, I would guess sometime next year.
This means they will have a late 5th edition codex, which gives GW a strong support in hobby shops for the Tau as well as meaning that some of their best looking kits will be for the army.
Additionally, the anime style has become more popular and accepted in mainstream culture.

Oh that would be just fething great!
Another Eldar Codex at the end of an edition, just to be nerfed by new rules a few months later. Wait a minute, we don't have our 5th Codex yet and some don't even have their 4th! What's all thiss 6th ed. crap anyway I'm waiting to catch up to the 5th ed. creep still.
I would guess CSM versus Guard would make sense as it has a horde versus elite and a good guy and bad guy for the kiddies. Unlikely though, no speshmuhreensh. Probably SM versus CSM would be fun, and Chaos has never had an edition. 2nd ed. had orks, 3rd DE (I think, missed that one), 4th Nids, 5th orks again - so its always a bad guy versus SM so far. Chaos could be next.
