If that is true, then the Hierophant would be more susceptable to squads with alot of low-strength, rapid fire weapons and a few Meltas. Bolter fire could take out it's mass points while the melta deal with it's wounds. That's alot less than having to cherrytap it with 10 meltagun shots.

Interesting, I have no experience with imperial armor, so I'll just stick with the apoc data sheet. If i might ask, how frequently in any one's experience do you see imperial armor rules being used. I've actually never seen any at all.

Once. It was not pleasant to say the least (the guy used a flyer and failed to inform me that I had a hard time getting into CC, and that it took 12 inches off the range of all my weapons. I brought berserkers. Curbstomping ensued).

He didn't explain it very well. You roll to hit and to wound as normal. After failing a save, you roll again on the Mass point chart.

If the the attack was equal or greater strength to the GCs toughness, it caused a serious wound on a 4+. If the weapon was also Ordnance, Massive, Mega or Lethal, it always causes a serious wound.

If the attack was strength below the GCs toughness, it would cause a serious wound on a 6, whether it was Ordnance, Massive, Mega, Lethal or normal.

Serious wounds strip a mass point.

So big hits like a Battlecannon would almost always strip a mass point, but you needed to be really lucky to do it with small arms, considering Hierodules and Hierophants had 2+ saves to small arms. You need to hit, roll a 6 to wound, get through the 2+ save, and roll another 6 on the mass point table to do any damage at all to a GC, until its mass points are stripped more easily by bigger guns.

It is a pretty fluffy rule - they have really fething thick armour. Big guns need to punch holes into the armour plates for smaller arms to fire into.

That makes alot more sense then. Otherwise the Hierophant would be killable by 3 squads of Grey Hunters with Melta Guns.

I did not explain it very well, however, thank you -Loki- for better explaining it.

Other Dreadnaughts should just go somewhere and be a toaster.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

I know I'm not really paqrt of this thread but I saw this post and asked the staff of my local store. They reckon that it should get its 2+ armour and its 3+ invulnerable and is not counted as a psyker. That seems fair to me,for 400 pts, space marines can take a 10 man Terminator Assault Squad, with thunder hammers and stormsields, which have a 2+ and 3+

in relation tothe armour save on its profile, like the 4th ed zoanthrope,it always had warp field granting a 2+ armour and 6+ invulnerable save(it is a 6+ i have the 4th ed codex in front of me)so at the time it would be pointless to write Sv:5+,but this is always upgraded to a 2+ armour save and 6+ invulnerable save.

pssorry for writing on this post that is long dead, but i had to make it known

one last thing,my local store's staff say, that a new codex modifies all other sources for that army.so warp field that remain in the codex, changes to the updated version as do trygons, which are now in the codex and follow codex version rules.Without number rule was not carried over,so it is not availible to use with gaunts in the troops section, but is still usable with the endless swarm, following rules the in the 4th ed codex
