Ok you are right there. The game was good - not exellent. I have never heard about miniatures. But the movie was still great, and the cartoon series and theme song for the third part.

Do you know why?

It's expensive as all hell.

At best, you're going to see the level of animation from the DC movies--but they would look far too corny to the GW audience that couldn't even stomach the graphics we saw for Ultramarines.

As I understand it GW have money as hell have daemons. Why won't they invest in something that will bring them secure profit? And they can do it at least with CGI from the DoW II.

Games Workshop has been entirely hands off on the project. About all they did was license it out and let Dan Abnett work on it.

There was a full miniatures game, worked on by Andy Chambers shortly after he departed GW. It was doing well...but then it bombed.
The 'Roughnecks Chronicles' did okay, but they were such watered down kids stuff that it was a missed chance.

And the company that did the CGI from DOW II is the same company that did 'Hope' and 'Deceived'.

Basically: GW has money, but most of it's tied up in maintaining their stores and production capability. There's not that much they can throw around willynilly.

THQ/Relic, who were responsible for the DOW II game, were the ones who paid Blur Studios to do the cinematic intro.

GW has had nothing to do with the project, outside of Dan Abnett's involvement. Seriously. Nothin' in there is them getting involved. Dan Abnett wrote the script and was basically their eyes and ears for the duration of the project. Everything had to be okayed by Dan or a few people that he designated.

Codex Pictures funded and distributed the movie themselves. GW was very hands off on the project, just licensing the 40k property out and providing a few plugs here and there in the "What's New Today" blog on the website and in White Dwarf.

How is this not getting through to you?

+1 I would definitely love to see a movie for Titanicus.
But it would be far too difficult to make a good movie for this book, too expensive. But if they were actually capable of making a super-3D film with spectacular effects and everything, it would be bloody awesome to see Titans fighting each other.

I would also like to see a movie about space battles. THIS would be epic. A bit like the space battle in Star Wars 3:

After all, 40K is a sci-fi story. And what is sci-fi all about in the first place? Giant space-ships shooting massive salvoes at each other!

Dan was the chief design dude. if it didn't fly with him, it didn't get in.

if GW had actually put some money into the film, gotten more advertising, pushed it, it probably would have done pretty good.

I heard the film is getting shown at a number of Film Festivels around the world though and there are select screenings accross the US(free i might add)

What would I want to see? The Horus Heresy or even smaller chance something revolving around the Tanith First. That what I'd *want*

What do I think it will be? Another one shot story line like Ultramarines. Assuming it isn't a straight out sequel and using Ultramarines it will focus on another chapter. Maybe they'll mix the badguys up again this time, but I don't think it will be 'Nids as the production on that would be that much more expensive. Most likely CSM or maybe Necrons or Eldar, something where they do not need to create a whole lot of enemy units. I have no idea how Ultramarines did financially, but I can't imagine it was a blockbuster that is going to justify a huge production budget for the next one.

Well, not necessarily. Think about what mrsmith and Fists of the emperor said.

Guardsmen in an abandoned spaceship+darkness everywhere+genestealers=awesome horror movie!

It would not cost much, introduce a good "grimdark" atmosphere as long with a few of the most terrible aliens in the galaxy and freak the hell out of us because it will be normal humans vs sneaky/killy aliens.

The wonderful thing about a fully CGI movie, is that you can put in as many special effects and monsters as you like with a minimal effect on the budget.

Not enough choices to suit everyone. Personally I'd like to see Chaos against the Imperium again, but with Guardsmen and civilians involved, and possibly a couple of other races (Eldar and/or Orks) involved.

Neither Tyranids or Necrons would have personality and the Tau and Dark Eldar are too minor. Although I do quite like the spaceship idea.

Personally liked the Fall of Medusa V. A movie doesn't have to cover all the different things going on except in passing. I'm thinking a desperate race to evacuate a planet facing an impending "natural" disaster. An easy source of suspense. And then, dang it, all these impediments cropping up trying to make life impossible for the main characters. You could have some space stuff as various forces come in. E.g. evac ships and space skirmishes. I like the idea of just introducing the idea that there are a lot of non-human forces out there and they all have their own agendas and humanity just won't get a break. The main characters could easily be civilians rather than military.
