IIRC the Haines-headed "3.5" edition codex came out in Oct 2002, and had the Defiler rules in it, but the model didn't come out until the following summer; might well have been alongside the Eye of Terror codex. I ran two I commissioned to be stratchbuilt by a friend of mine, using GW weapons and plastic toy & Spawn kits. Mine are (were; they've both suffered substantial damage over the years) huge; even bigger than the official model.

There were actually 2-3 different conversions featured in the monthly GW flyer, with bitz kits. Another friend of mine has a totally different-looking one. IIRC it has six old metal Kan legs, a couple of Kan claws, and a main body based in part on a Russ hull. It's significantly smaller than the Defiler kit wound up being, and was relatively easy to hide behind Woods and Area Terrain in 3rd and 4th edition. I'll have to see if I can find a pic somewhere.

I thought the Dread always had the Autocannon option. A quick look at the 4th Ed codex says otherwise, so at least this one isnt unreasonable like the whole DE Beastmaster one.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Holy hell you found it soulkhan! Out-STAND-ing. Thank you very much! I will begin assembly tomorrow when I can get some appropriate pinning material from Home Depot (seems I had drilled most of it out already Back In The Day), and will post pics when I am done and base coated.

This one has been made happy by Dakka this day.

began construction soon after last post. pics illustrate progress so far. I am currently undecided as to how I will mount the vindicator plates. I am thinking that they will be long side down to push the whole center of mass forward. even with enougha huge steel content from the pins, this monster will still be fragile. I am consideri.g a permanent base ( really i think it will be essential) and re enforcing the joints with 5 mi.ute epoxy. lemme know what you think dakka, even though this will prolly just look like the other pics in this thread only incomplete.

It's coming along pretty well! I couldn't imagine making this "kit" without using a central rod to support the entire thing though. Use some sort of building rubble or something to disguise one.

Once I get some kind of center defined to do just that! lol. I was considering a rod from a flying stand...

Nice! I am for the idea of using two part epoxy.

Yeah, the body is a metal necron destroyer/tomb spider bit. Not too sure about what's what in that range but one of those for sure.

yeah, to me it looks like a bunch of random bits from different models.

You have some dreadnought weapons, and some other pieces as well.

It looks like the "Legs" are the old metal Killa Kan arms.

Tomb spider body.

Any guesses on where the other pieces came from?

ok, except for the weapon arms it is done. I am just not sure hich ones i want to put on yet. magnetizi.g it will be a huge pain as these arms give so much leverage and have so much load on the ends. but here are a few more pics:

Never seen that.

Normaly only GW France would be crazy enough to attempt, post and sell this (back in the days when they had their own website). Are you sure this was a US mail order only thing?

This thing looks fragile and heavy. I would recommend using 2 part epoxy glue instead of superglue. Work wonders sometimes.

Yes, it certainly was. I saw a couple of them back in the day. I think I still have at least one of the Troll catalogues where they sell them(anyone else remember those?).

I really like it. It's a lot more AM than Chaos IMHO, which is what I am going to use it as. Glad I dug it out.
