Process for the yellow:

1. Basecoat of Iyanden Darksun
2. Lightly wash with Gryphonne Sepia
3. Mid tones - work through Iyanden Darksun and Sunburst Yellow, just leaving the sepia in the deepest recesses.
4. Building up through the highlights with Sunburst yellow. Dilute the yellow quite well and apply as a bunch of smooth coats - let each coat dry properly before applying the next or you'll pull big holes in it.
5. When you've got a nice smooth rich yellow, finish with edge highlighting and pick out the very tips of nuts and bolts etc with a mix of the yellow and some skull white.

Hope this helps - yellow is a bit of a pain compared to many other colours as the paints tend not to be that definite and opaque, but this can actually work to your advantage as it encourages you to take your time and build up to a smoother finish.

MrMerlin - I hear you mate - I'm a little scared of weathering if I'm to be honest, but you're right, I'm going to have to bite the bullet and learn how to get the right effects at some point, these are indeed far to clean and shiny to be proper boyz :-) More research to be done and a few test models to get through before I go scuffing up these...

That wasn't us I'm afraid, Wib. We were there in September for our wedding anniversary - (first time I've ever been). Think we'll be going back for another look early next year, do you perchance know how often new stuff comes into the painting exhibition? I heard there's a titan or two in there at the mo?

Ah, well then she, at least, has a double who's also into wargaming.

I think they swap stuff around in the cabinets in the main hall every month or so, there's usually a couple of titans knocking about.

The 'Museum' models don't get changed very often, I've been quite a few times over the last 2 years and most have been the same. I think they only update those when the army gets updated.

Cool - I'll have to be back there soon anyhow I think, because I need another Bugman's glass (I find that gaming is improved with a nice glass of foamy brew - but not too many because clumsy drunkfingers tend to break models...)

I'm always interested in seeing titans in the flesh, because I have an Eldar Revenant sat in a cupboard cos I'm too scared to start it...

Happy to help with the yellow M0rdain - hope it works for you - Darksun is an insanely useful foundation paint if, like in the case of these orks, you undercoat in black

BCScotti - mate: she's a keeper :-)

Loved warhammer world - it's the mother ship after all - quite pleasantly surprised at how nice the beer and chilli burger were too.

Hopefully will get a pic of the final Kan (and a nice group shot) up here before Christmas. Last day in work today though (as you can tell by the way that I'm on here instead of getting on with my job...), and Mrs Doggles' birthday tomorrow, so no painting for a day or two as we'll be celebrating - Yay!

Same question from me!! It looks like loads of iyaden darksun painted in watered down layers, but its so crisp! They are a credit to all Doggles everywhere.}}}
