Subject: The UK is second most popular nation, but not with Mexicans?

Can't see where there'd ever have been any reason to, tbh.

On the Clarkson thing: Yeah, I guess that would do it. The plant where I work in Houston TX has a very diverse mix of people. The guys from Mexico (both the imigrants and second generation folks) are hard working guys that are fun to be around. Same as anyone else here. That stereotype is way off base.

Do they still see the UK, Spain, and other countries as former colonial powers, claiming parts and pieces of the world for their monarchy? I don't get it.

Britain wisely pulled out quickly, especially when the US started making noises about "Monroe Doctrine" and "Lee and Grant on the same side" that sort of thing. France stayed and of course, surrendered. Its where the Legion gets some of its best stories.

It wasn't that we were telling bad jokes, it's just that they genuinely did not react to anything:

I think you are thinking of the Mexican War of 1848.
The Franco-Mexican War took place between 1862 and 1865.
The UK and allies took advantage of the fact that Lee and Grant were fighting each other in the ACW at the time. Spain and the UK pulled out very quickly once they found that the French were intent on conquering Mexico, which they weren't interested in..

The 1848 war was the US/Mexico conflict (aka the Whiskey vs. Tequila Tour)
I have my wars right as you just noted. UK pulled out. The US sent assistance to Mexico in the form of "volunteers" let lose from the army replete with their weapons.
I realize it could also be purely because of football. Unlik,e the US, they too care about football...GOOOOOOOOOAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

One reason I can think of is that the people in mexico see the UK as a 1st class nation. A struggle free nation with loads of power, no flaws, and snotty people which is not true. Most of the Mexican population never been outside Mexico or the Americas, so there is hate because Mexicans don't know what the UK is like. I guess its like a sterotype kind of thing. They dislike the UK because they don't know much about it I guess.
Another thing might be is that people in Mexico think that the UK is a boring country, lacking culture and diversty "full of whiteys".

A we're at 80% on you guys? I would of thought more (yes I know 80% is pretty damn high) Ive NEVER heard something like "you know why god hates America? Because of those damn BRITS! THATS WHY!!! *shakes fist*) But it is odd on Mexicos part. Maybe all the immigrants take our 80% down 10% or something

Oh yeah America is 25% Mexican, so really 100% of Americans like us!
Cheers lads!

Depends on how the figures are calculated - if the 80% of Americans meant 80% of all people resident in the USA (or were representative of that), then Mexican Americans would be included in that group and the result would still be 80% approval. If the survey required people to identify themselves by nationality then that would mean that 80% of people who identified as 'American' approved of the British, and the people who identified as Mexican disapproved overall. Which is fine, except you can't add the Mexicans to the Americans for the purposes of this survey, meaning you couldn't reach 100% approval.
In fact I'm struggling to think of a way for it be possible at all? Care to have go, KK?
Well, the obvious point I would make is that I was clearly taking the piss mate. Thus making the math entirely pointless.
And there are probably more than 25% of Americans of Mexican descent, certainly in California its about 50/50.
That being the case, 110% of Americans clearly like us.

Total population of USA = 100% (1)
Mexican population = 25% (0.25) of total
Non-Mexican population = 75% (0.75)
Overall UK approval rating = 80% (0.8)
Approval rating by Mexicans = 37% (0.37) (I can’t find the correct figure but this will do for illustrative purposes)
So what you're saying is that it's possible for 'american' Americans to have a 100% approval rating?
Hang on... didn't I deal with that scenario in my quote? If the Mexicans resident in the US are included as 'American', then they are already covered by the data that lists the overall approval rating!
If it's only people that identify as American that are counted, then the number is still 80% and the Mexican approval rate is irrelevant to that number.

Definition of delicious right there.

I doubt any nation anywhere would ever get a 100% or 0% approval rating.
North Koreans probably give North Korea a 100% approval rating and South Korea a 0% approval rating. The real statistics would be the number of people with a gun to their head at the time vs the number of people who polled that way automatically. Hell, North Koreans would probably give North Korea a 110% approval rating.
