That is awesome. I hope you don't ming, Phototoxin, but I might have to steal this concept as a back up for my Dark Sun character.

Escaped gladiator, paranoid about re-capture but cheerful. Gameplay wise, she shifts all over the place whilst smacking folks and marking aplenty. She can't take a punch down and has nearly gone down for good on several occassions. We're using the optional weapon breaking rules, so she's smashing weapons all over the place to tremendous effect.

I realy only have 1 true 4th Edeition Characters
Human Hybrid Ranger/Warlord-2 with a Wolf [captured in game play] animal Companion.
I only deal with one realy Prolific DM, but he hates 4th so I am doing most of the running.

I do have about 50 other Characters from my early years of playing I would love to play.

Yeah and it really only worked with druids too, since you kept your wis/int/cha (which are boosted by aging) and kept your forms str/dex/con (which were lowered by aging).

Yes he was stupid, even at epic level he could only be hit on a natural 20 because I could shift into things with stupid high ac and break 100+ easily. not to mention the level of monk letting you add your wisdom to your ac worked while shifted also...

However like someone said that is 3.5 for you, you could break the game very very easily...

Also, when we were traveling our DM thought it would be fun to have us attacked by pirates... It was all well and good until the gnome jumped overboard and turned into a kraken!

Aye, 3.5 had a lot of broken stuff in it. (See Pun Pun for more Master of Many Forms broken-ness).
That's why a good GM house rules that stuff! It's not fun for the other players if one player is roflpwning every single challenge that comes the party's way.

I can't agree with this enough. I would also add, however, that a good player doesn't make the DM have to houserule. Just because you can optimize a one-man-kililng machine doesn't mean it will be any fun for the group to have to deal with him.

^ yea it is fairly easy to do stupid amounts of damage. At least in my very limited experience. I ended up dealing 529 damage to 10 different targets in a single move as a lvl 10 sorcerer. I also set the house on fire (oops) The monk almost always kills whatever enemy we had to face before any of the other melee combatants could even get there...

How did you do that? Were the enemies you were facing vunerable to the energy type you were using and you crit'd or something?

Depends on the edition. I'm guessing since he is a sorceror that it was probably 3rd/3.5, since those kind of numbers are harder to support even in a nova round in 4th. Damage and to hit bonuses were much easier to generate and sustain in 3rd and there were numerous broken loops and combos due to the sheer number of books.

I recommend looking up the Character Optimization boards (for 3.5 and 4e) on Wizard's site if you want to see some truly awe inspiring examples.

It was in Pathfinder.
A group of archers lined up, firing line style shoulder to shoulder, in a 10 foot wide space. The 120 ft long lightning bolt was condensed to a foot bounced through them 12 times and they failed every reflex save they could have made. 10d6 damage per bounce. Being of draconic lineage (blue dragon) I got 1 extra damage per d6 when using an electrical attack. Thus is ended up being 120d6 + 120 damage.

Then I knew what it was like to charge a mob of ork boyz into something.

For a second time and then repeat it on the next round. Then the fighters were doing well over 100 points a round, 20HD Dragons were dropping in 1-3 rounds on average.
That’s 240 points of Lighting Damage vs. a Touch AC in two Rounds!
The DM’s response was to all of a sudden all of the Monsters were Immune to Lighting.
I find that 4e requires a lot less to keep my monsters up. Now even if the Party does not miss a single attack the fight last 4-10 rounds.

Now I have to admit that I have had a dragon stomped into the ground. In an Epic Level game they ran into a Draco-Litch. The Gnome Illusionist went “Take this and you are now Stunned [Save Ends], oh you made your save you are now Dazed [Save Ends] oh you made your Save you are now Dazed until the end of your turn. My turn once more, here you are Stunned [Save Ends] once more.” The whole fight went this way, I think in the whole fight I did like 50 points to the whole party; combined. It was also when its Bloodied Breath came up it was stunned, so I did not even get that off.
But here is the most important part; we all had fun with that fight with one exception. The Player who had the Cleric spent the whole fight going “IT’S A FREKEN DRACOLITCH WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!” and to this day I can not get him to fight a Dragon.
In the most recent adventure his Paladin [Cavalier] Gave a Green Dragon that was being a one of the Parties Horses and 3,000 GP to not fight it.

This. Not to mention it takes less time to develop a 4E encounter. Anyone remember making good PC type encounters for 3E? There went 2 hours.

This is one problem with 4E; relying on Solos/Elites. Savvy players save all their good dailies for Solos and then try to lock them down. A lot of monsters have mechanics to ignore the lockdown, which is annoying as well.

But here is the most important part; we all had fun with that fight with one exception. The Player who had the Cleric spent the whole fight going “IT’S A FREKEN DRACOLITCH WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!” and to this day I can not get him to fight a Dragon.

Working as intended then.

My problem with the Dailies is that I have one or two players that burn them in the fight [Including 2-4 Characters Spending an AP in the Opening Round] and then they start looking for a place to take an extended rest.

Overall though I would like to play more, but I am having a hard time finding a local DM who won’t mess with the rules and just play. My old DM had a 1” Binder of House Rules; about a third to Half contradicted each other…some days.

Trying to get back on subject.

One of my favorite characters that I have gotten to play is Monica. In 3.5 she was a Cat-Girl Samaria.

Now in 4th she is now

Razorclaw Shifter
Rouge [Artful-Dodge]-9 with a 20 Dex and Cha with a pair of Wall Walkers
I actually am usually the “Fighter” of the group. I keep ending up as the only one who will get close to the enemy other than the Elf Wizard.
The DM I usually play her under can not hit her unless I provoke an Opportunity Attack from movement. [I get a +7 to my Defenses when I do that]

We had this problem with our early 4th ed games and we did a couple things. One, as a group we challenged ourselves to see how long we could last before we took an extended rest. Two, we designed our party as a group and created characters that complemented each other.

Now we can go through about 3-4 milestones before resting in most adventures (playing Scales of War right now). Not every fight needs a super nova in the first round and we have a tendency to space out our action points / dailies so we use them appropriately and not just on either the first fight or the boss fight.

You should have seen the Game were they had a Time Limit to Stop the Necromancer. I had them out of Dailies and Magic Item Uses after the 1st Fight.
They got hammered by some undead the second fight that eat up some of their Healing Surges and only had a hour left before the Ritual was finished. They all entered the last fight with 1 AP, 1 DI use and 2-3 Healing Surges left. I think the party had a total of 20-30 hp left at the end. Everyone said they enjoyed the game but one [the same one that has the problem with dragons]

The Character I really want to play was a LE Cleric in 3.5. I started him at the end of 1st. I always said he would be a cleric no mater what. After trying for over a year to make him work I tried ham as a Paladin and I think he will work perfectly.

I love encounters like this. Desperation is a big motivator.

I played a Lawful Evil cleric in a campaign for about 3 months, it was a BLAST.

He was in a party with some goodies, but they were only their to further his agenda. He was played similar to scar from FMA. I was a holy Zealot led by my god to eradicate those who were unworthy (and essentially, everyone but myself and my people were unworthy). It was A LOT of fun to roleplay, constantly quoting prayers before I would deliver the "touch of death" Touch of Death was an ability me and the DM came up with.. Essentially a human sized creature that was severely weakened could be touched. I would place my hand on their forehead, deliver a prayer, and essentially melt their brain.

I also didnt heal, lol... The other party members were merely pawns to further my own agenda, and if they died then so be it. (actually I think I finished off a wounded party memeber when every elses backs were turned).

heh. Cool, although I'm not a fan of inter-party killing. That being said, there's a Raven Queen feat in 4th ed that does just what you are talking about (kills the weak) and there's a epic destiny where anyone close to death automatically dies when they are near you.

Im not either, but he was on to my agenda that I was trying to keep a secret.

Also a lot of what I did was done via Text message to the DM so some was secret. The party, nor the person who's character I killed knew I did it.

I did not just kill my party members randomly lol.

Wolf Guard Bodyguard in Terminator Armor

William Shaxberd
5th level thief, 4th level wizard (transmutation specialty). 3,5 ed D&D.

Vital stats: Insane AC (somewhere in the 30s, I'm looking for ways to go higher still), excellent scouting skills. Can dish out reasonably large amounts of damage to living targets, good only for providing the Paladin with a flanking bonus vs undead or constructs. Not very good at taking damage though. Then again, due to the high armour class and rogue reflex save combined with evasion, he rarely has to take any damage.
Next up is one more level of wizard and then Arcane Trickster.

We with Cromar as I put it he was Lawful Evil Plays “Well with others”
Our MD always ruled Paladin Detect Evil as Detect Evil Intent.
Most early games we would play it most of the way though before someone would cast Detect Evil or Know Alignment. I would then just raise my hand and look at the bewildered looks and ask why aren’t you kill off the party. So I came up with this speech.
“I worship the Goddess Innana, Goddess of Love and war, not necessarily in that Order!”
“I seek 3 things in life, Gold, Power and Women, not necessarily in that Order!”
“Number 1: Look the more of you that are standing, the more there are alive to help me kill the monsters.”
“Number 2: If I keep coming back from Adventures and I am the only survivor, but I saved all of your stuff, soon no one would go out with me adventuring any more.”
“If I am a team player and pull your Fannies out of the fire, you will pull mine out.”
“Not necessarily in that Order!”

I have just started playing again and not on a consistent basis, but the character I made was

Kent Katchme - halfling rogue (level 1)

I was thinking about a dwarf barbarian, razorclaw druid or a goliath monk, but wasn't sure how they would play. (at least the razorclaw and goliath, someone else was playing a dwarf fighter)

dwarfs, wood elves, dark elves, bretonnians, WOC,
space wolves, orks, eldar
