I don't really care either way. I haven't played 360 in a while, but I think I've got something like 20k+. As for the Trophies on the PS3 I actually seem to care about them less for some reason, they just seem kind of dumb.

The only achievements I care about are the ones that you had to actually acheive something in order to unlock them(i.e. used some skill, planning, intellegence, etc to get). For example beating the entire game on the hardest difficulty possible, never dieing during a play through, using only the basic pistol, beating the game in a speed run, pwning a bunch of noobs with the most difficult to control weapon in the game, etc.
But most games give you acheivements worth points equal to the ones that matter for simply turning on the game, or post a reply to the net, or inviting a friend to the game, etc... These are utter trash and show that you acheived nothing but being either an acheivement whore or a lacky to the publisher and helping promote their game.
Their is a third kind of achievement that I don't mind and that is the easter egg / humour acheivements. These are ones that are either funny in some where by themselves or help you find hidden easter eggs and unlocks in the game. I also like the Negachievements that some games try to put in (but MS and Sony force them to give points for instead of 0 or negetive values for) like Frequent Flyer Miles (You died over 100 times) from Too Human. Itwas ment to be an achievement you tried not to get and a funny joke, but MS forced them to give points for it (should have been 0 points). Negachievements add a new layer to the games and acheivements. You could then make a game where you could get all 1000 points of acheivements for a full score, but on top of that see how many negachievements you managed to avoid while completeing the game.

I've never heard of Negachievements. You can't really get a negative number can you?

I believe he is refering to achievements that you get for doing things that would otherwise be considered negative.
Die 999 times in one game, or somesuch.

I only care about achievements if they're really cool in how you unlock them. Like killing 7 chickens in as many seconds or 'Jump from the Eiffel Tower and Survive'. And if I really enjoy the game I try to get all of the achievements for it.

If I made a videogame, you'd get 999 points for pressing Start at the main menu. Then 48 achievements, each being 0 points, for assorted ludicrous and dubious tasks. Then the last 1 point would be earned by completing the game on the hardest setting without dying and in one play through.

Thank God you don't make video games.

Currently no, Sony and MS do not allow you to implement negetive achievements or even 0 point ones. But more importantly what they should be doing is making sure achievements are about acheiving something and not about some of the stupid things we currently see in games like messaging a friend, creating a character, joinging a game with 9 friends, etc. These are all bogus achievements or straight up advertising through peer pressuer gone bad.

I have many 0 point achievements. Maybe they changed it recently.

They're a neato carrot on a stick but I don't care for them as much any more.
Prior to Achievements, I'd still try to accomplish certain things... like playing certain levels through different difficulties (Ex: Perfect Dark).
