I'll aim to get achievements I can easily get, but other than that, I won't bother.

That's why I've only got one game with all achievements achieved...

Only in games I care about.

FEAR 2 I have all the Single Player acheivos.

Working on Dead Space 2 and Splatterhouse,

I was in the 1000 Club with Bioshock 2 (could never get Bioshock 1 to work for me) and then they added in that new map pack that nobody ever got to play.

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

In games where it means unlocking stuff, yes.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

I would care about them if they meant something. Do you get a reward or something if you get enough of them?

Bragging rights.

Honestly though. For me it just gets extra play time out of games I otherwise wouldn't touch after finishing them.

Some games do actually have rewards tied to them.

Halo: Reach, for example, has avatar items tied to certain achievements.

True, I had all the non-rank ones unlocked on the first day of release, lol.

I am more of a PC guy, but with Steam cheevers and in-game accomplishments that doesn't matter as much. Achievements/Trophies won't influence my desicion to buy a game but it gives you nice goals.

Like I'll pop in a game ask myself "do I want to do MP, SP, or something else?" then I see a few locked achievements and suddenly I have something to do. Having them can't hurt as far as I can tell.

True but I really don't care for the Wii People either.

Now if I got a special gun for getting all the trophies/achievements or unlock a hidden stage of the game then I would be all for it.

I like them. They can encourage me to play a game differently or challenge myself in a way I might not have thought of. I don't think I've ever bothered to get ALL of them for one game, but I'm happy to take a slight detour to grab them along the way.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

I see the only achievment worth having is when you get unlock new items from it otherwise I have little care for it.

Elysian Drop Troops 1500pts

Renegades & Heretics 2056pts

It really depends on the game imo. Some ill go all out to get 1000G on a game, some I wont bother. So far i have 20k gamerscore with about 4 of them with all achievs:

COD:MW2 - Me and my bro spent hours upon hours trying to do the spec ops missions coz they were fun and a real challenge.

TES IV: Oblivion - Took me ages to get the last 20G because I couldnt be bothered running around Shivering Isles again, I did eventually though.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted - Easiest 1000G ever, just complete the game.

Fable 2 - Since this was a follow up I decided to get all of them, wasnt worth it though. Although 90% were more for fun than just say completeing a part of the story.

If a game actually rewarded you with ingame items then it would make them more worth it.

I'm proud of my 25,201 points. Also proud how it ends in a 1 because most people don't have that.
I think I started out like this guy:
. Achievements are stupid...well maybe I'll just get a few more...

Seriously though, they do make you play the game in a way you probably wouldn't and extend the life of it. For example, in Red Dead Redemption you get one called "Dastardly" for tying up a women and putting her on the tracks for "death by train". Certainly wouldn't have thought of that. That being said I'm not crazy like some people who will invest dozens of hours into getting another 10 points. I grab the easy ones where I can.

it's fun to get trophys when I get em, but I don't go out of my way to find them all. Honestly could care less weather they were there or not. They're a cool addition. But then, I cared more about the achievements in WOW than I did for any game on my PS3...

You know you can save right before you choose who you want, kill them in the quest, and re-load?

I used to be obsessed with achievements. Now, not so much.

I still try for easy ones, and I check all of them when I first start playing.
Also, I try to go after the really hard ones, like some of the Portal ones, or ones with cool names
I just hit over the 20k mark with Mass Effect. Its like 20115 iirc
Also, I got all of them for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Oblivion, and one other 'real' game, and then Dino-dash lol.

Yea I know that, but I just ran straight through forgetting that my autosave was on and the last time I had saved was back when I was level 7 or so, I was like level 15 at the time.

Multi-player achievements tend to annoy me.

Otherwise I find them to be interesting and tend to try for them.

I have a number of games with all of them completed.

I despise achievements. I know, I know.. they "extend" the life of the game.

Back in my day though, we beat the feth out of the game anyway. We didn't half ass it. We beat games so bad, they wished they didn't get beat so bad. We had to blow our cartridges, WE HAD TO WORK TO PLAY. Then we had insanely hard games, the difficulty alone extended the game.

Then I got a SNES and life got a little less stressful.

Hey now.

You can do both.

In some cases the achievements are extra goading to try silly things. Red Dead Redemption's Dastardly trophy is a fun example.

I got to Gannon in the original The Legend of Zelda without having any sword in my inventory (in 1987); that should have been an achievement.

All said, I agree with your sentiment even if I disagree where it leads.

Modern games pamper players.

+1, they are way too easy nowadays. The Elder Scrolls: Arena is solid compared to Oblivion and Morrowind
