I'm hoping that these two Badab War transfers will just be the first in a string of them. I want to get my hands on Astral Claws or Tyrant's Legion transfers.

We're supposed to be seeing Astral Claws transfers and doors soon.
The Tyrant's Legion transfers were mainly cropped from the DKoK/Elysian ones though.

Oh yeah. I forgot about the Land Raider doors from the Open Day pictures.
I'm going to make an Astral Claws/Tyrant's legion army, but I'm not sure that I'd use the Army List from IA 9.

While I think the model looks great in an crude ugly sort of way (like a bulldog), I do wish they had put some more thought into the rules. If its named after a general, why not make it the IG version of the Prometheus LR or Damocles rhino and have an option for a mobile HQ?
Something simple like an embarked officer in a single command squad can issue orders 12" further than normal due to its communications systems (and have a kit that attached a commlink/satellite/etc on the top). In addition, embarked Masters of Ordnance in the same command squad (and only them) may fire as if they had a fire point due to the sensors and comm equipment.

Because there likely will be such a thing within the book proper, and this is simply the 'standard' variant.

I hope so but I sincerely doubt that. If anything, the ho-hum nature of this vehicle's rules don't need the "experimental" promo/testing of a rules prerelease as this pug simply doesn't do anything out of the ordinary (unlike the caestus and no-melta-for-you! LR whose name I can't recall).

Yet the thing you're forgetting is that within IA8 there's rules for a 'Command Venator', but the rules are given within a unique scenario.
It's likely you'll see something similar here.
The Land Raider you're looking for is the 'Achilles'.

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal. |

The thing looks like a strange hybrid of AAV7 and some Soviet Union ICBM carriers, but maybe that's because of the paint job. Completely unrealistic, like any Games Workshop vehicle, but would look the part as a mobile command post.

Not sure, Father Gabe. (Love the avatar!)
I recall reading in one of the announcements that FW wasn't going to do much in the way of figures/models for the Badab War books, which I felt was short-sighted. I've heard more people talk about IA 9 and 10 than any of the other books.
I'm waiting patiently to see what they do for the Astral Claws and/or Tyrant's Legion. The Space Sharks (Carchardons) are pretty nifty, too.

Father Gabe wrote:Why freakin transfers? Just make some shoulder pads.
Short answer?
Transfers are easier. They've got enough graphic designers on hire now that doing transfers is a reasonable endeavor that can be done by these guys in an afternoon, versus shoulderpads taking a week or so to do properly.
I think some of it has to do with 'their vision' of certain forces as well. Like the Minotaurs not having emblazoned shoulderpads, but rather would have unique storm shields done in the style of Greek bucklers.
Kronk wrote:I recall reading in one of the announcements that FW wasn't going to do much in the way of figures/models for the Badab War books, which I felt was short-sighted. I've heard more people talk about IA 9 and 10 than any of the other books.
The big issue is that there's so many daggone characters in the Badab War books. And not all of them are really 'unique' enough to warrant a character model.
Take the Raptors' Chapter Master for example. The Raptors, like their Raven Guard forebears, aren't exactly known for 'customizing' their armor. They're all about anonymity and subtlety not heraldry screaming "HERE I AM IN CHARGE". At best, it would be a Space Marine wearing Corvus armor...with a 'unique' boltgun.
Can you imagine the crying about that from the people who think FW does "too much Imperial stuff" as it is?

I hear ya. I don't need the special characters. But a handful more chapters worth of the PA shoulder pads would be nice.

I believe they've said a couple of times that decal sheets are less time-intensive to do (printers notwithstanding) and give you way more than the equivalent sculpted pads options would. personally I'm a huge fan of the decal sheets as it means I don;t have to try and cack-handedly do tiny detail lettering

I think the conceptual problems are simply too much to overcome. Specifically, the ramp being in the back, it's not an assault vehicle, and the rather odd-duck weapons loadouts. It's not so much that it sucks, so much as it simply has no really useful role to fill. This is rather similar in most respects to the recently released Land Raider Achilles: cool looking model, but not particularly useful.
