I can think of a number of games that Duke Nukem outshines graphically. Yet no one complains about said games' appearances.

The Duke games won a huge support from the gaming community. Now DNF has to live up to this reputation.

Personally, i'd rather wait and have updated graphics. If I can wait for 12 years for a full game, then I can certainly wait for 2 more (if it even takes that long) so that I can enjoy it graphically.
I didn't care much for Halo graphics, because in the small handful of years it took for the sequels, I knew it wouldn't be a huge upgrade, but when you take a game that has been 12 years in the making... well, you sort of expect that everything possible has been polished.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Look at DNF's history before you judge too harshly.
The original project was all but completely scrapped when Gearbox picked it up from 3DRealms. Since they scooped it up, it's been getting solid development. A large part of the 12 year wait isn't the fault of Gearbox Software, it's 3DRealms. They were the ones constantly retweaking it and putting off release because "it wasn't good enough". Gearbox on the other hand, took the game, decided it needed to be bloody finished, and did just that.
And I really don't see what's wrong with the Graphics. The water coming out of the showerheads looks a tad off, and the lack of blood pools from dead enemies is a bit disappointing, but otherwise I think the game looks great.

Graphics seem fine to me.
Hell perfectly fine, Ill be able to run them in high, and others will be able to run them without having to upgrade their gaming PCs or deal with gakky console hardware hamstringing them.

Pretty much my thoughts Melissia. TBH though, I'm suprised you'd want to play with the Duke .
The two things I noted could be fixed with a patch or mod easy-peasy. Besides, a game is never about the graphics, unless they're the only thing holding the title up (Read: Call of Duty series, any movie-to-game hellspawn, etc...). I can't say that anyone of the mindset 'graphics make the game' has enough merit to serve as a judge of quality.

I like The Duke. He's a hilarious character. The difference between, say, Duke Nukem and, say, some random douchebag that nobody remembers the name of from Medal of Duty: Call of Honor on the Homefront Battlefield, is because they just honestly don't stick out and don't have any real personality.
But... The Duke has no such lack.

Stop and think about it: People have been waiting for Duke since 1998. Why? No one waited for a Hexen sequel, for example. Why? Because it's Duke. It's not the game, it's the character. That spoof of the over the top 'macho' man. It's part of what makes the game fun, and, frankly, gearbox, for the games other faults, pretty much nailed the important parts on the head.

We're not sure. We DO know there's a sort of ego shield thing. Bullets don't hurt Duke, but they do insult his ego, and he get shis ego back through various feats. This might be a shield thing, or it might be actual regenerating health. Dunno.

The Ego is his health. And when it runs out, he dies. But it does regenerate. Though in the game's defense, you can easily get your arse handed to you, even on the easiest setting.

Played through the demo over the weekend:
1. I have no problems with the graphics. They're certainly not up to Crysis standards or anything, but they're not complete crap either.
2. Game play is pretty straight forward. Your "health" is your Ego. Sort of like the original Halo, if you don't get shot for awhile it comes back. Not sure if doing particularly awesome things gets you Ego back immediately or anything. Guess I could check.
3. The Car isn't nearly as hard to control as I feared it would be.
4. I am super pumped and can not wait for the full game to arrive. I ordered the Balls of Steel edition back when it initially went on sale on Amazon.
My only real complaint is that you can only carry two weapons at a time. Would have really liked it to harken back to Duke 3D where you carried around a crap ton of weapons.

As long as it isn't "modern" then I am happy. Duke shouldn't need cover or band-aids or anything. Give him a gun and an alien to shoot at and I am a happy person. Oh and the shrink ray was amazing.

I did not know this. From what I remember of the older ones, it was just like any other action oriented FPS, health with health kits.
Still going to be worth it.

There was a thread a few days ago complaining about the Star Wars prequels, so I'm thinking yes, some kind of time anomaly has occured.

I think the public demo comes out during the weekend. It doesn't tell much about the game though. You get the idea that 'yea, it's totally Duke', but that's about it.
Also, I found that turd and tossed it around a bit. It's definately just as amusing as it was in the trailer.

Huh. So far most of the ones I've seen were 8/10
Joystiq gave the 360 version a 4, and, reading the review, I can see why. If you didn't like Duke to begin with and hate low brow humor, then, YES, you will probably not like DNF.
It's sort of like saying 'I HATE JRPGs and Final Fantasy in particular, now here's my review of Final Fantasy 7 and why it SUCKS" Haters gonna hate.
