Can shove it up their collective arses. Your opinions ain't worth a rat's ass more than mine are. Actually the opinions of professional critics are worth less as critics are paid for it and therefor they represent their employer's interests rather than just being honest, so they can shove it up sideways instead.

Rude that may be, but honestly, I couldn't care less. Reviewers have been horribly wrong about games my entire life. They ain't gonna stop being wrong now.
Wolfun wrote:The humour is great in places, in some it's really noticeably forced.
I thought it was almost all pretty amusing.
Wolfun wrote:And where are Duke's one liners? They used to be almost every time he makes a kill, now they're pretty sparse.
You never actually played the original duke nukem games then, because that is false.
Wolfun wrote: The gameplay is generic
We aren't playing the same game then, as it's FAR more vvaried than the average FPS game.

Claiming it sucks because it's a great game, but not good enough fo some ridiculously stupid, moronic, and utterly arbitrary high standard is just nonsensical unless you hold EVERY game to that ridiculously stupid, moronic, and utterly arbitrary high standard.

Like you said, opinions.

I woudn't get too worried over varying opinions to do with games and if other folks like them or not.

I'm a huge Dynasty Warriors fan, and every year pretty much I just have to laugh at it getting 50-55% reviews with their biggest criticism being its still using the same controls, even if character updates, levels and such have all improved and slight modifications to those controls have occured.
Then without a pause of breath they'll give the current Fifa game 80-95% and its nigh on the same game at heart every year.
I laugh because I love it, and play it a lot each edition year on year, well par DW6, that one did kinda suck.

If you like it, then have fun playing it, thats all that matters.

From some of the issues I've seen folks raising, I'm kinda jealous. Being a big Doom fan, Doom 3 was like a slap in the face.
I didn't want Half Life with Demons, just the same awesome gameplay, with an big graphics update, and use of things they couldn't do previously. The whole scrounging for ammo, torch thing did my head in. I wanted carnage, and got meh.

Sounds like Duke fans are at least playing something they recognise.

In many ways it's a bit better. The shrink mechanic for example is much better explored.

If it all comes down to opinions, then how could she be in denial of her own opinion? That's a rather silly arguement...

Indeed, and I have to agree with Mel here, anyone who gets paid to be critic/reviewer can no longer ben objective in anyway, since they represent a company now.

Indeed... I enjoyed the game. I loved it. In fact, screw you critic, I'm gonna kick ass on duke nukem forever and post on dakka, and I just logged off.

How long does it take to complete single player anyways? Also how is multiplayer? I'm very tempted to pick up a copy. The Duke has a special place in my heart.

Singleplayer is good. It's not quite on par with old duke, but they did a pretty good job considering it was only like 10 guys from the original project, and the rest was Gearbox.

The length of the game clocks in at about 18 hours.

Duke still feels like Duke.If you're one of those pansies that needs characters with depth, personality and believable personal problems, get the f*** out of here, because the Duke doesn't have time for that crap. But if you're in it for the beers, babes, and boobs, then you'll be right at home

I haven't tried the MP yet, but it looks very much like your basic oldschool DM/CTF/TDM/KOTH

Actually duke DOES have depth and etc, he's just not a pussy like many modern heroes. He's quite a fun character.

I beat it in ten hours, but I'm going through it again to get all the secrets.

Judging by metallifan's and Melissia's post, there is no way I can't not get by not owning this game.

Purchase is now imminent.

I agree for duke fans it feels like a true duke game. So far I am very pleased with it (not finished the single player yet, stupid crunch time at work ). Still haven't jumped into multi-player either. To busy kicking ass and looking for bubble gum to bother with it.
