Be warned, this game is not a great shooter, it's a great allround package.

I'm perfectly fine with that, seeing as microsoft hates the PC gaming market and thus refuses to release the new halo games on the PC.

What I don't understand is why this totalbiscuit guy is whining? I'm watching it and I can't help but think how much of a blast I'd be having doing this stuff.

I think its because he had certain expectations of the game, an he's sad that the game doesn't lives up to his wishes.
I already have a very low opinion of video game reviews right now anyway so I could hardly care less...

It just baffles me, particularly the thing about minigames. Granted, there do seem to be a lot of them in the early levels.
BUT: Duke has had these before... How many of you played pool in DN3D? Yes, it's a tendency in Modern FPS design to have some minigames... because DN3D did it!

I played pool with bullets as the balls, guns as the cue sticks, and enemies as the holes.

I got it, not worth £40 or the best shooter ive ever played. However it is a lot of fun and at the end of the day that is why most of us play games anyway.
p.s. Politicaly correct or womens rights actavists need not play, you WONT like it. But everyone elce on the other hand?
Frankly if you go into this game expecting anything other than a low rez version of an 80s action movie in video game form, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. My "Balls of Steel" edition should be at my house when I get home and frankly I can't wait to play it.
As to reviews, I'm guessing there's a lot of confirmation bias in some. People go into the game expecting it to be bad because it's been in development so long, so when they play it all they can pick out is the things they don't like. They ignore the things that they laugh at or enjoy or what have you.
The game's single player is excellent, far, far better than the average set by the campaigns of CoD and BFBC.
I clocked it at 10 hours myself.

According to the tracking number on UPS.com, those dill-holes forgot to put either one of of my copies of the Balls of Steel Edition on a plane to Kamloops, and it's been sitting in Richmond since 10am. You'd think that a $200.00+ order would have a little more attention paid to it. Just reminds me why I never ship with UPS.

It's not 'old Duke Nukem' awesome. It's more like "It's Duke Nukem breaking the ice" awesome, as if he's been gone for a long time and needs to get his mojo back... Ohwai-
The good news is that with Gearbox and 2K running the Duke show now, there's a chance for future games, and unlike 3dRealms, Gearbox, and Pitchford, won't go back and keep scrapping the project because it's not good enough for George F***ing Broussard.

Only about 2 hours in but its a great game so far. Hail to the king baby. However I do agree that it seems to rub new age gamers the wrong way. But if you enjoyed the Duke of old then this game won't disappoint. Its basically a slap stick film, but in game form. The amount of detail in all of the areas and the random/funny gak you can find or do in this game is amazing. Anybody beat the pinball high score yet? I haven't been able to break even 100 000 points on it yet.

Certainly not awesome.
Most assuredly awesome. Well paced, varied, lots of neat gameplay ideas, good graphics. Certainly better than the average CoD/BF/MoH/Halo clone or whatever.

Well, UPS has officially crapped the bed in my books. My next day shipment is now a day and a half late, I'm to pay UPS brokerage charges that were not billed to me prior -or- mentioned in any way, and the driver didn't even f***ing knock on my door despite the fact that MY CAR WAS IN THE F***ING DRIVEWAY and I found a denial of service note saying that he was just here 30 minutes ago but couldn't deliver the package.
UPS is pretty damn terrible. I avoid it whenever possible.
Also I'm going to agree with Mel on Duke. I'm not that far in (my achievement lust forced me to replay a level looking for one last ego boost I missed...) but it's a blast so far. Certainly not top line graphics, but the game play, humor and well.. DUKE! make the entire thing awesome to play.
This is what makes Duke much better than the current wave of FPS (except Half-Life) is the other stuff you get to do in the game. They kept the game true to it's roots, almost as if they just took the original game and used a different graphics engine, which is good for those who loved the original game. It's freaking Duke Nukem...the gameplay will never be any different.

Well me, and a lot of other critics (internet/paper/random blogs) disagree.
The humour is great in places, in some it's really noticeably forced. And where are Duke's one liners? They used to be almost every time he makes a kill, now they're pretty sparse.
The gameplay is generic with regenerative health and why is Duke suddenly only limited to two weapons?
See, you might say 'better than average CoD/BF/MoH/Halo', but it's essentially the same with some occasional witty one liners that don't make appearances enough. Also, there's a distinct lack of 'secret' areas with neat stuff like the originals.
Sure you can draw dicks on everything, but that doesn't rescue it.

A "Critic" is just someone paid to give their opinion. With the age of the internet and easy access to the thoughts and opinions of others, I can't understand why "Critic" is still a paid profession...
Can shove it up their collective arses. Your opinions ain't worth a rat's ass more than mine are. Actually the opinions of professional critics are worth less as critics are paid for it and therefor they represent their employer's interests rather than just being honest, so they can shove it up sideways instead.
Rude that may be, but honestly, I couldn't care less. Reviewers have been horribly wrong about games my entire life. They ain't gonna stop being wrong now.
Wolfun wrote:The humour is great in places, in some it's really noticeably forced.
I thought it was almost all pretty amusing.
Wolfun wrote:And where are Duke's one liners? They used to be almost every time he makes a kill, now they're pretty sparse.
You never actually played the original duke nukem games then, because that is false.
Wolfun wrote: The gameplay is generic
We aren't playing the same game then, as it's FAR more vvaried than the average FPS game.
Claiming it sucks because it's a great game, but not good enough fo some ridiculously stupid, moronic, and utterly arbitrary high standard is just nonsensical unless you hold EVERY game to that ridiculously stupid, moronic, and utterly arbitrary high standard.

Epic
Fail
UPS.
You've lost my business from here on.
Aye I hate that, they pull that over here as well.
I still don't get it, because how can grabbing the box and getting me to sign it, be any slower than filling in one of those danged forms before posting it.
Whats annoying is I've not managed to catch them in the act, the second time one pulled it, I was doing something so didn't hear the slip get posted. I'd just love to see the reaction if I barrelled out the door two moments after he posts saying, I'm here you muppet!
