I find that if I base color the entire army Black, and then one or two "dusting" coats in the armys main color that I am less worried about my individual model progress. I can bring out a fully painted army with only asempbly + a few hours worth of spray painting and drybrushing. Being able to play with them keeps me interested in paining more.

When I get down to painting ... I paint 5 models at a time (or less if the sqaud is smaller). This lets me get half of 10 man squads done(usually in a bout a week, and dropping a fully painted squad on the table every two weeks isnt too bad(since the rest of the army is already the correct base color).

Another thing that helped me in sort of batch painting was a tip from GreyDeath's blog. When he was batch painting he did the details all on the front in one go and then did them all on the back in another go. I have tried that and it is a super time saver for the smaller details.

What I do is basecoat all my models then paint them all in dark red, then light red, then I do all metals (such as bolters), then armor trim, then highlights and finally I finish off all extras and paint over mistakes. Today I painted 1 vindicator, 1 Baal predator, 1 terminator squad and 1 assault squad using this method.

Thanks for all the input. Seems that batch painting is really popular. I checked out the grey death blogs and they are very inspiring, as a re few others. They are threads I will continue to look when I need a jump in the right direction.

I'll finish the grey hunter off I'm working on now, treat myself with a rhino then try and batch paint the next squad see how i get on.

Thanks again all, t'was good to get some other people thoughts.

Jeez, I'm a really slow painter compared to most people.
It takes me a week or more of evening painting to do a squad of 10 IG or a single vehicle. I get backache when painting for long stretches, which doesn't help :S
