Well, the DC-Deathstar tangent I started was admittedly a little hypothetical...

...but only a little! I may not have run 2xThunder Hammers, but I have run a massive DC JP squad with PW's and attached IC's. Not in serious games, of course, but definitely can be fun in more casual games.

Probably the 5 man Ogryn/Lord Commissar combo, coming in at 395 points.

Archon with Agoniser, Blast Pistol, Combat Drugs and shadowfield, in a unit of 9 incubi including a klavex with demiklaives and onslaught, in a raider with flickerfield and nightshield.

5 Diversified paladins is usually my cut off point for deathstar units, no single unit should EVER cost more than 300 points imo.

When I say single unit, that doesnt include IC's and transports.

Came out to right around 600.

Actually in the process of doing this second one, I just think it'll be fun in a 1500 point game to assault with that 1st turn.

I'm the same - I dont like deathstars. Certainly draigo deathstars are too oeasy to kill off, as they fall to lascannons soooo easily.

Comes to 1005 points!

Going back a few editions it was a 600pt chosen squad with only 6 members... utterly useless till they got into close combat though... ahhhhh the days of daemonic gifts...

Marauder Destroyer with 8x hellstrike missiles, armored cockpit and infrared targeting. Total of 525 points.

Outside of Apocalypse: veteran squad with 3x plasma guns and demolitions, Hades drill "transport. Total of 195 points.

Most expensive two I realistically run are for Wolves and Orks.

Wolves:
Four Wolf Lords, all on Thunderwolf Cavalry mounts
- 4x storm shield
- 1x each of frost sword, frost axe, thunder hammer and wolf claw
- 4x runic armor
- 1x saga of majesty

Grand total of 895 points, and extremely effective if the opponent doesn't have a Strength 10 counter to it. I've had games where the "Court" swept its way through an entire enemy army without taking much more than a few scratches (because seriously, if this thing gets into close combat with something, it will disintegrate). 12 AP3 attacks going at I5 (at S6 and 5) plus 12 more AP2 at I1, S10 and 7. Plus, all four are characters, so they can toss wounds to each other to keep from being picked off one by one.

For Orks, it's my Nob Bikers (big surprise there ).

Comes out to 795 points. Same as the Wolf Court, it's really tricky to kill and can dish out enormous amounts of punishment (in this case, 39 S5, WS5 attacks on the charge, plus another 14 power klaw shots at S9). No kill like overkill.

I do fancy trying out a 15 man DC unit with 2 TH's two PF's and a HQ chappie in a LR crusader at some point, but at 805 pts, its a tad expensive...
