The thing about the plot that bothered me the most was

Spoiler:
the fact that the "Asgardians" (Where did the Aesir go BTW?) appearently have this awesome bridge that doubles as WMD. If the war with the Jotuns really bothered them so much, just leave the darn thing open already! KILL THEM ALL!!
.

Other than that, as someone not familiar with Marvel's version of Thor, it was interesting to see what parts of Nordic mythology was in, what wasn't and what was in but oh so wrong.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

Thats my jump the shark moment. Loki is the bad guy because he wants to remove the threat to earth and Asgard (and presumably other areas). Why? When he learns he's a giant himself-unbelievably- he decides to go the way of his adopted race and end the threat. He sounds like a way better king Than Steroid freak Thor. Its stupid. I mean we didn't not nuke Russia because of some humanitarian mission. We didn't nuke them because they had nukes too.

Yeah it was pretty dumb, I liked Loki more than Thor, that man had the right idea! Whats wrong with wiping out the fething frost giants?!

Oh and why are does Thor have an English accent? Wouldn't they all speak some form of Scandinavian dialect?

"I say old boy, there appears to be a Frost Giant over yonder!"

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

I like how you believe what Loki said about his motivations even though almost everything that came out his mouth was a lie.

Spoiler:
Where did the Aesir go?

Uhm, no where? This isn't supposed to be the true story of the Norse pantheon. It is a way of differentiating between the real world ideals and history and a comic book that uses them as a basis for adventure.

It did seem a bit compressed, but these days I'll take lean and mean over a comic book film that is ponderous and groaning under the weight of exposition. It gets in, tells its story, and gets out. I don't even read Thor comics but I thought it was a nice, tight bit of summer storytelling.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Well as he was apparently doing what he said he was doing, I'm not doubting him. He could have been doing something else but that wasn't apparent.

Good summing up of how I felt about it too.

Another mission, the powers have called me away. Another chance to carry the colours again. My motivation, an oath I've sworn to defend. To win the honour of coming back home again.

I thought the script and plot were pretty weak, especially the characterisation of the different characters. Thor reacted in what seemed to me to be completely unrealistic ways to his situations. The effects were okay, but not enough to carry the film, and I didn't enjoy the action scenes that much. Overall, a bit of a meh.
Was the 3D really needed?

This was my opinion as well.

Also, it seems that the old rule of thumb applies: if geeks hate it, its probably good.

I'm a geek and I liked it...

I think it adds to the movie. Loki isn't just some one dimensional badguy trying to kill the king and take over. He wants to show he's a good ruler and Asgardian.

I've never been a fan of superhero movies and/or comic books. However this movie was really neat. I think the role that was best played was that of Heimdall. He was pretty badass

When I read this I thought that this movie might help my brother get laid.

No. Like any move where the 3D effects were put in after the movie was done, they were terrible and didn't add anything to the movie.
Just darkened it and made me dizzy during the fight scenes.

Couldn't agree more. I don't get dizzy but it looks blurry to me.
