Thank you all for following this thread!

I have been busy on the Sons. I have finished up my Uthizzar of the Athanaeans (counts as Inquisitor Coteaz) model. I figured that Coteaz lended himself perfectly with the Athanaeans as they are the telepaths of the Thousand Sons. Coteaz's rule "I've been expecting you" in particular. I made some allowances on him.

I thought that the Sanguinary Guard power armor just screamed artificer armor so I went with the torso from that set. Also I chose the laurel wreathed head from that same set. The Storm Bolter is from the Space Marine Commander box to represent his cyber-eagle and I used the eagle headed backpack as a reminder to roll the d6 for his shots. Lastly to show his Deamon Hammer I chose a power maul from the Dark Angel's upgrade sprue. Overall I am pleased with the results.

In this project i selected a pallet that is red and blue and derivatives of those colors and gold. So in painting this army you will see colors from those pallets as well as black and white.

Here is my Uthizzar of the Athanaeans:

Next up are my Purifiers or in Thousand Son nomenclature the "Pyrae". They are made from Scibor Egyptian Parts kits, Scibor SF Accessories set 1, Chapterhouse Studios shoulder pads, and Kromlech Khopesh Vibro Swords http://kromlech.eu/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/KhopeshVibroSwords.jpg. Also used were the Grey Knights and the Dark Angels Chapter Upgrade sprue.

These models I like the best so far as I feel they really captured the feeling I was going after. I'll let you all be the judge.

In other hobbying news I have ordered some clay shapers on the advice of a fellow Dakka member and compateriate in the Pre-Heresy Thousand army building. If you haven't checked out his blog it can be fouind here:http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/369777.page. I bought them from Dick Blick and they can be ordered here: http://www.dickblick.com/products/royal-sovereign-clay-shaper-sets/. I am hoping to use them for making various flurishes on the vehicles in this army.

I am trying to get these finished (the army) by July 16th for a local 1500 point tournament. The army will make is real debut at the Bay Area Open on the weekend of July 30th in Antioch, CA. There is a Dakka thread here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/350862.page

Next up will be Stormravens (Stormbirds)

Vryce wrote:Yeah, when the new GK codex came out & the 'Brotherhood of Psykers' rules were released, it's hard not to see the correlation. They have some really cool fluff, the color scheme looks good & it all fits well w/ the GK heads & overall theme.

~Vryce

Yes there are quite a few of us going in this direction. I think my list will be a little different from most as I am going to be using Stormravens and have some cool ideas on how to theme them up!

HF Izanagi wrote:Nice scarabs, bro. I like the overall look with the robes as well.

And where the hell did that last Purifier w/ Halberd's weapon come from?? That funky axe/bardiche looks great! Is it a new Scibor product? (looked like from the color of the resin)

One... minor... nitpick- The 'counts as' Coteaz- I love the look of the legs with the BA Sang Guard torso... but the pose and the legs look a bit off... the legs have more of a 'bracing' look, whereas the upper body has a different 'moving', dynamic look. Perhaps it's just the picture...? Dunno.

But overall, very, VERY nice. Keep them coming. My PH 1Ks are on hold (as DijnsK and Vryce noted) due to work/classes. Balls...

-Remi (HF Iz)

The scarabs are not that bad to make. Small blob of greenstuff smoothed with a finger. Razor knife to do a final shape and make the three lines. I am hoping to make even better ones when those clay shapers you suggested come in!

The Purifier's Halberd came from Scibor all right, good eye. SF Roman Halberds

I agree with you on Coteaz's pose. The paint helped. He may get revisited later.

brother noobicus wrote:Those look great! Thousand Sons is my fave legion and you are doing them great justice! A quick idea, if possible you might put greenstuff over the word fortitude on the incinerator the Purifier is holding and then etch heiroglyphs into it. Not sure if its possible but I bet it would look cool. Keep up the great work man.

I did think about greenstuffing that over (is that a word?) but in the end I liked it painted. What do you think?

You really need to paint the joints on those marines. The base coats are sick but you are really lacking on details. The inscriptions on the armor need to be painted a contrasting color as well. Doing a little freehand on the scrolls would help too.

Second Ozymandias. I know they're GK, but I'm interested in your fluff and integration.

I'm trying to figure out a way to make Prospero "Spireguard" for my army- probably as an Inq. Band HQ choice... but for those "mortals" to be leading the Sons?? Shameful.

Looking forward to more!

I think I have the fluff figured our partly.

I am going to use Assault Marines as the Death Cult Assassins. I figure they would be from the cult of the Pavoni, the Thousand Sons who were able to manipulate body chemistry. I have a plan of two Khepesh swords and flowing cloaks for the this squad.

To represent the Crusaders I think that I will use some Imperial Guard as the Prospero Spire Guard holding shields. Either that or some Thousand Sons marine projecting Kine Shields.

Some Psykers may make it in to the final iteration of this army. Those will definitely be Prospero Spire Guard. I have no problem with this as in the book the Thousand Sons had a great relationship with them and many of the Guard showed psysic talent. I think showing them as stylized guardsmen will be both easy to do and representative of their lack of fortitude compared to a marine.

Thanks for your comments and keep checking back.

Funny that you should mention the board right now. I just bought the Army Painter Jungle Tuft and the Army Painter Swamp Tuft that will be featured prominately on my display board.

Hi veritechc,

As another big fan of Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons (I have an army I'm finishing up, it's been too long) I like your work. I'm particularly impressed with the display board, I think I have some of those Grendel bits I got at an auction. Thanks for posting the link, as I wanted to get more and wasn't sure what exactly they were.

Keep up the great work, I'll be posting some of my stuff soon.

Did you look at the Red Scorpions honour guard set that Forgeworld do? They would fit in as the scorpions have that Egyptian theme and some of the helmets are somewhat like the grey knights.

I would love to see your work. Please post it up. And you are welcome for the link. Those Grendel Eguptian Moniliths and gate are really well made. They are heavy resin so if I need to I could also use them as a weapon, lol.

Thank you for this link. You are exactly corect. I think I'll be making a Forgeworld order soon. I am looking at getting a Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought and now Magister Sevrin Loth Chief Librarian of the Red Scorpions with Honor Guard

I have a deadline to get this army built and painted by July 28th for the Bay Area Open. So for this run Forgeworld will be out but I will be adding to this force. I plan on playing this army for quite some time.

Thanks for making me broke!

GreyHamster wrote:I am a huge fan of this idea, and your work looks fantastic.

I have thought about not only making Magnus but Ahriman who is my favorite Character in the Thousand Sons. Someone makes a Magnus model that pops up from time to time. My favorite ever done was by Scibor.

Magnus the Red

I am going to hold off on trying him because of time constraints.

Ahriman is in the future. I am going to be making a model for Pre-Heresy Legion Conclave. I am thinking that Ahriman will be appearing there in his terminator armor and sporting some awesome powers.

Thank you all for your interest!

Wow... that sculpt Scibor did isn't half-bad! He still doesn't strike me as the leader of his legion, but it's a great model and definitely pushes the entire concept art from "not so hot" to "I'd buy that model if it was for sale".

And I can't wait to see what you have for Ahriman. I'll be holding off on making characters (Hathor Maat struck out at me, but I'm a fan of BAs so he was an automatic-in ), but I might have a go later. What'll you base the Ahriman off of?

Funny, I've been eyeing that Librarian since it came out. I'm due to go to Games Day in a few weeks, where I'll be picking that and a Contemptor or two up

I like that Scibor Magnus, but I still haven't seen a big enough model yet. Magnus the Red is a giant of a man! I have a model that I use for Magnus, but he is still pretty small...though twice the size of a Marine

Now the update.

I've been working on some Pre-Heresy vehicles. Thanks to Chapterhouse Studios I was able to get my hands on two Tru-Scale Stormraven Kits and a Wheeled Chimera kit. Here are some WIP Shots.

Stormbird 01

Stormbird 02

As you can see these kits make the pug nosed Stormraven kit from GW into a graceful Stormbird. I would highly recommend these kits when Chapterhouse post them on their main website.

Here is the Chapterhouse Dakka Thread

And here is the Wheeled Chimera Kit Assembled.

I have been making some larger decorations for these vehicles using my new Clay Shapers. I have some imperial eagles to scrape off and Thousand Sons insignia to put on. Back to work for me!

Update 7/15/2011

Hi all and welcome to the update. I have finished my Vindicare Assassin. I went for a 40K version of the ghillie suit. To do this I took the body of a Scout Marine Sniper and a head from the Dark Angles Chapter Upgrade spru. Then I added some flock and my new favorites the Army Painter Jungle Tufts and Swamp Tufts.

Here he is in all of his camo glory:

I feel he doesn't fit quite as well as the rest of the army does but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try something I haven't seen done around here.

I have been busy and getting more so with this project. The Bay Area Open is fast approaching and I have to hustle to get all of this done. Along those lines I am working on a few more units.

Here are my Death Cult Assassins:

These will be pulled from the Thousand Sons Cult of the Pavoni, the cult that is able to alter their body Chemistry. These seemed the most likely marines to fit the niche of the Death Cult.

They are made from Chapter House Studio Thousand Sun Shoulder Pads, Scibor SF Accessories set 1, Kromlech Khopesh Vibro Swords, GW Grey Knights GW Assault Marine Legs and arms, and green stuff capes and Scarabs. The weapons were difficult to get in their hands and easly was where most of my time was spent.

To flesh out my army I added a couple of obligatory PsyRiflemen Dreadnoughts. I did add Large Flexable Ammo Belts from Zinge Industries to each Dreadnought.

Dread 01

Dread 02

These are going to be traded out later for two awesome Contemptor Pattern Dreadnoughts from Forgeworld but alas they do not come out till after the Bay Area Open.

Looks like my week will be full as I still have to paint:

2 Stormbirds
1 Chimera
2 Rhinos
5 Death Cult Assassins

And create

A Xenos Inquisitor
4 Crusaders (I have an awesome idea for these can't wait to show you all)
5 Warrior Acolytes
3 Inquisitorial Servitors
1 Jakero
16 Psykers.

With this much work ahead why an I still here typing. Thanks!

I like the flock, def the head, but I'm notg feeling the gold gun, and wires. I would rather the wires be a different colors than the gun, and that the gun was camoed up too, kinda pointless for the soldier to be hiding with a flashy golden gun, you know?

Great great models for the DC assassins (nice ghilly sniper too)! They remind me of Starcraft Dark Templars, capes in the wind, whipping around twin-handed weapons. I'm sure they're going to be ace when they're painted.

And a big ol' thumbs up for that first spindly-spider rifleman dread!! That model is SICK! I'm still trying to figure out how to incorporate or create something for my own Sons, a larger vehicle/dreadknight of some sort- good ideas have already been made with the necrosphinx... but I'm going a bit different. If only the Brass Scorpion wasn't so huge... and expensive.

Either way. Good stuff, man! Keep 'em coming, and I hope we can see a group pic when it's all done, complete with close-ups!

I know what you are saying about the gun but I had to give a nod to the colors in my army. This is 40K after all where bright red Space Marines charge down the mits of swirling combat somet5imes forgoing their helmets. I have always wondered if heads are less vulnerable 38 thousand years in the future. Perhaps no one will notice the blinged out gold rifle poking out of a shrub. Besides I had to have something so I could find him on the table. Don't want to leave the model because I can't see him, lol.

I will see about the cords though. Thank you for your comments.

Thank you. The Dread I believe is an old metal Venerable Dreadnought from 3rd or 4th edition (anyone know?) I actually traded it for some Dark Elder panzees, best trade I have made.

The brass scorpion is a good idea if you have t6he cash. I really am not feeling the Necrosphinx, too many skulls. I am thinking some of the robots that were controlled in a group in the "Thousand Sons" maybe?

I always like to think something about Space Marines!!! gives them some metal in their heads or whatnot, which, though giving them a little tint of steel, gives veterans and sergeants the necessary 3+ save to the head to allow them to live bareheaded.

Anyway... I like the psyrifle dreads, besides that the connectors to the body seem to long and out for me, but just a personal thing, I suppose. I like your death cult assassins, but don't they only have a 4 or 5+ armour save, if any? Just a question I've got.
