My two older brothers left for college and there I was as a little 12 year old getting bored off video games and wanting to do something involved. I went down to the local gaming store, spent all of my allowance for 3 weeks on space marines cause they looked really cool.
After I had painted them like "awesomely" (total gak) I asked FLGS owner if there was anyone that played the game the models went to. I then was directed towards the FLGG and we've been friends ever since.
I quit 40k for about 5 years during college, claming the too cool excuse, but now I'm back into it.
I am an avid Sci Fi reader, and one day I picked up this weird book that had an armored soldier upon the front of it looking very evil.. I then found out they were the good guys XD

I went along to a friends house to play a new board game he had about 20 years ago... turns out it was Space Crusade!
Even with the limitations of that board game, we played through all the missions and I ended up buying it myself and painting all the miniatures... I played a friends version of Space Hulk and really went no further into 40k.. Until this year I found myself with time on my hands and end up hating myself for spendinga day alone in the dark playing Xbox, so I felt at least something like 40k is social (you need to find people to play!), strategic and a little creative I enjoy painting as much as playing....
Still new, but looking forward to building a 40k army that is a bit different, I don;t want to follow the strongest named characters to be unbeatable, i'd rather field a strange army that people find dificult to play against.....
Before i got into 40k, and GW in general, i used to think everyone who hung around in GW were either geeks or people with no lives. I thought i would never get into it. Then i had this friend who introduced me to this new game that had just came out, it was caled Dawn of War Dark Crusade. It was awesome and i really like how there were such a diverse range of armies. And that same friend brought me over to GW when he was buying some paint, and i had a look around and i actually thought 40k was awesome. I've always had a strong interest in design and art and gaming, and i thought 40k fit the bill perfectly. Since that day, i have collected Blood Angels and Eldar and Orks. I love 40k, even though it's kinda geeky
In 2004 I try a new game: Dawn of War.
Love the idea, the background, the settings and the tactics.
After that I started gathering info on 40k. The rest is history...

When I was almost six, my brother came home with a red box, with a picture of some savage looking pirate guys on it, (free company) and when he built them, he would never let me touch them - let alone go near them. Now I understand why, but back then I didn't. I couldn't afford to get into it, and my parents were wary of the prices. One day, my bro decides he wanted to build some terrain. I did my best to build a popsicle stick tower, but even I knew he wouldn't use it. Eventually he burned out on the hobby, but I always remembered that gold Warhammer lettering on that free company box. A decade later, we are cleaning out my brothers room after he left to college, and I see that box again.

As a child I grew up watching scifi shows like doctor who, stargate, star trek, etc and reading scifi, medieval knights and tank books then one day my cousins introduced to me the LoTR the fellowship of the ring film. Shortly after one of my friends who also liked LoTR found this "cool shop that sells LoTR figures" after that GW had me. I started collecting in 2003, but in 2004 on my birthday I went to spend all my birthday money on urak-hai stuff, the store manager gave me a free issue of WD featuring a leman russ tank on the front cover and i then realised that 40k was my calling even though the week before I had called rattings "hobbit snipers in space lol" and none of my gaming group was interested in 40k at the time.
In 2005 me and my friends stopped playing LoTR but in 2006 my brother became interested in 40k and my IG army was born very slowly since not having a job sucks because warhammer is expensive down under!
But now I have discovered space knights aka black templars, which combined my love for scifi, tanks and knights, what more could i ask for? (Don't answer that lol)

From there I went into the Dawn of War games...from there I found my local GW, and bought my frist models.

Drive me closer guy is/was/always will be awesome.
I was about 10 and I was into Battletech, and my FLGS started carrying GW products. Saw the boxes with all the cool little men in power armor, and got hooked

Especially since in DoWII:Retribution, the general actually says that when he embarks a transport.
My interest was first peaked back in '96 when I saw the armies one of my friends had ...but I didn't really pursue that interest beyond reading the rule book and some catalogs..
A few years later another friend of mine bought two of the 3rd edition starter boxes and gave me all of the Dark Eldar minis and a copy of the BBB so he'd have someone to play against.
I added a few more units/vehicles to what he'd given me and started playing...been at it ever since.
I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

As soon as I read your post I went looking for it, but couldn't find that video. Could you post a link?
Dawn of War. After playing it for a year or so, I decided to look at GW's range, and for Christmas was given Scout Sergeant Telion and a Chaos Raptor lord. I traded the Lord for a BB gun..

Went to borders one day, was looking at the Star Wars books, looked at Warhammer, picked up one of the Gaunt's Ghosts books. Read it, saw the advertisement for 40k on the back, first thought was "Yeah right, I bet like maybe 2 people play this game, probably not even worth it" Did a little research, went to a LGS that carried it, watched games, fell in love.
My Saga:
After being thrown out of the Galactic Legion for 'crimes to numerous to be named here' i found myself down on my luck and with much spare time on my hands. Having amassed a fortune prior to my hasty departure from the Legion kept me from having to seek work but i was getting bored quickly.
I conspired to find a hobby. I travelled far and wide across the green lands of the England-Wales border and even trying roaming as a hobby (nor worth it) i eventually found myself beset by rogues. They attacked and knocked me unconscious. I awoke in a strange shop being tended to by a short man with a long beard. The shop wall were adorned with many boxes boasting colourful and exotic figures fighting terrible battles.
I inquired to the nature of the shop and with a great booming voice unsuited to his stature he claimed the shop as the ancestral territory of Games of Workshop. Games of Workshop created heroes and villains to carry on the saga of Warhammer 40,000 and soon i became interested in this saga and its origins. Eventually i accepted the shop master's offer to join him and his fellows in the continuation of the saga and having chosen the might "Space Wolves" as my champion i set out to build a great force that would contend with any that opposed it. I find myself here now, at this present time, fighting the fight, whether it is good or bad, shuffling everyday except Fridays... Fridays are for getting down on...

I got into 40k when i went to my friends house and he had to go pick up a defiler. So I went with and I said this looks stupid. A month later I had a 1500 point army.
Dawn of War PC game got me interested. I had actually known of 40k long before but was playing Battletech at the time. Then FASA shut down and sold the game to WhizKids who promptly sold out the fan base in a move that made the Hours Herasey look like a spat between siblings.
After years with nothing to play I downloaded a demo of Dawn of War and loved it, soon afther many hours of play I stumbled into a GamesWorkshop that had just opened up at my local mall. I have been a loyal and faithful servent of the God Emporeror ever since.
some friends of mine were talkign about warhammer at a dinner party i was throwing. it sounded fun they set up a match the next saturday to ge tme used to it. i knew none of the rules and played as nids vs IG i lost alot of my guys but ended up winning (it was 1750 poitns i believe) i liked it and came back the next saturday and watched a few games. i then read through a few codexes in the store and decided orks were the army for me, they looked random and fun
i've onyl been playign baout 6 months but I'm loving it
They looked so cool when I over heard my friend talk about them and when I saw the pictures I put a order of £300 straight away, I didn't even know the rules or how to play warhammer LOL.
Back in about 1999/2000, buddy of mine had the 3rd edition starter box. Did a couple intro games, using the Dark Eldar against his Space Marines. Was hooked immediately.
The small mountain town I lived in didn't have a FLGS, so I had to drive 3 hours to the nearest city with store that sold Warhammer to start my Eldar Army.
11 years and 6 armies later, still loving the game!
My girlfriend got me into it when we started dating. She can't pass a GWS in the mall without checking out models...what's a girl good for if not making you spend money (i hope she's not reading this).
