I think the entire idea of an assault vehicle where you pile the men out straight into combat is that you have a front hatch, keeping it in line with the look of other STC vehicles is what they were going for with the front ramp ala thunderhawk and landraider. But I think 12 all round is better then 13/11/10, yes your front arc is sorted but you'll have the ass shot out of the ship quick as hell with armor 10.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

Look at the shape of the Stormraven though. It's not exactly easy for an opponent to get a side or rear shot if you deploy it properly, and the extra point of armor would make it significantly less vulnerable to Missile Launchers and Autocannons early in the game. We aren't worried about long-term survivability here, at some point if your opponent wants the thing gone he's going to invest the resources to do it, but early in the game it would take significantly more firepower to disable/destroy a Stormraven if its front armor were higher and the rear/side armor were lower, allowing it a reasonable chance to survive long enough to deliver its payload.

That's not to say it hasn't happened, but I haven't seen it in my area nor have I seen it in national tournament results. In fact, the Blood Angels players you mentioned were spread out pretty widely across the standings, with the highest placing 4th in the qualifier and dropping out during the final. The highest Blood Angels player in the Gladiator competition was 10th place.

I'm of the opinion that taking a Stormraven Gunship in a highly competitive tournament will lower your chances of placing higher in the tournament than if you had built a list without the Stormraven. This is simply MY opinion, and certainly everyone is entitled to their own, but it seems to be shared by some of the players that I respect, and so I will stick to it. I feel the Stormraven is a sub-par unit, and while a good player can certainly make it work in a competitive setting, that's not to say he won't be at a disadvantage because of it. In fact, overcoming disadvantage and placing higher in a tournament while taking units that might be below the top-tier curve is the mark of a very strong player.

If you want to field the Stormraven, then do so and be aware of its disadvantages. For my money, I'll leave the 200 point fire magnet to casual play.

Toche sir... Its all about opinion. Whilst there has not been a first placing in the tournements with list of BA players using a SR, that doesnt mean it shouldnt be exempt from tournement play. I strongly feel that any model/unit is usable and good for certain play styles and lists. Personally I dont think that Tac units belong in lists for BA. But thats my preference.

I had a friend tell me this weekend that the problem with taking advice of people online was that EVERYONE's play style is different. People think completely different from one another and therefor what you or the next guy deem unworthy of tournement play, I or someone else may feel that the model/unit is absolutely needed.

Im not trying to change your or anyone elses mind, just saying that its all opinion based. I really do like that I am getting feed back though because it has shed some light one some aspects of the list I wanted to try and I am still learning how to play this army. I take opinions with grains of salt. I also take them to heart because I may over look something or not understand something and the way someone else would use/word it, may make me see clearer. Please keep going with this if you can. If you both wouldnt mind posting a list and letting me know what you think would work that would be awesome!
