Out of curiosity I recently watched her HBO concert special and couldn't help but notice that she herself seemed bored through out the whole show.
Now,while I don't care for the " Hello (insert city here)!!,We love you!!" sort of entertainer either,I do believe that a performer should at least "seem" to be interested in their show.
She came across more like a jaded (occasionaly angry)actress than a musician/singer.
I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

"Hey, look at me. I'm really fething weird."
But Devo was weird. They were geeks before there was geek chic. No ironic retro shirts for them. I also don't think I would describe her as weird, either. She is certainly an extrovert and theatrical though.

She's horrendous. 'Born this way' was a complete piece of gak (HEY! Look at me! I'm so unique and cool because I'm unique and cool! Watch me shake my rear end and grind on objects!), and this new Judas thing is just torture.

FITZZ wrote: Well,in all fairness KISS was still a "gimick" act,but yes I agree their lineup did include some talented musicians.
Oh, I'd be crazy to say that they weren't working a gimmick!
I'd also contend that, while KISS may have borrowed some of their theatrics from The New York Dolls and B-Movies,they still had a "uniqueness" about them (for the time)...GaGa just seems to be a composite of Dale Bozio and Marilyn Manson, with a little Madonna sprinkled on top.

Talented in that they knew how to play (which isn't a knock, most people don't), but when matched up against the heavyweights they don't mike the list. Jimmy Page is talented, Niel Peart is talented, Les Claypool is talented. Gene Simmons is competent.

The Fame era, Monster era and BTW era. Like DBZ sagas, more or less. You can see a definite change in style overall between them.

It's actually referring to her fantasizing about women while being with men when they suck in bed. It's more or less about manipulation.

Bowie?...no..Bowie is a ...a dynasty..Gaga..not so much.
In fact...if she is still in the public eye 10 years from now I'll personally fly to Texas and kiss Cannerus on the butt.
I like people who rip off other drugged up musicians too And I'll do the prep work beforehand. You will enjoy it as much as you possibly can.

We should do this more often.

The HBO special was effing horrendous. I couldn't even watch the whole thing. When you're at the actual show you have bass pounding, instruments playing (including her guitarist soloing the whole time) and you can hear and feel the energy of the fans and you just get sucked in. I really, really wish they had just mic'ed the stage/audience instead of using the gakky soundboard feed. It sounds like a studio album, not a live show. They also cut stuff out which was dumb. My favorite cut was when she's talking about how her guitarist was from New York and she tells him to show them that New Yorkers can play too then two notes into his solo they turn him down and he's off camera. Whoever produced that special needs to die.

Her songs are catchy though. That damned Alejandro song sticks in my head like napalm.
Auto-tuned on one song that's about people being fake to begin with. We've been through this

Oh,I agree 100%...the "talent" in KISS was Freahly (sp?) and Criss (who was/is an amazing drummer).

Clearly, none of them are on the same level as the greats. At least from what they did in KISS. I haven't listened to a lot of their solo careers. Other than "Do Ya", of course.

That is a terrible use of the word 'era' and doesn't fit in the slightest. Calling a chair a Porsche doesn't mean it is suddenly a car, it just means one doesn't know what a chair or a Porsche is. I do not care for this. harumph.

Simmons was/is a businessman, marketing KISS and the theatrics were mostly his brain child.
As far as his musical talent...I'm a better bass player than Simmons is.

I can sing and know enough chords to play rhythm. We get a lead guitarist and a drummer and we will melt faces.
Hmm...a Dakka Band, interesting idea...of course considering the distance between our respective locations band practice would be a serious undertaking.
