Sure speak up, ask your questions, if I lived anywhere near Nottingham and didn't need to work Saturdays I would join you.

I see nothing wrong with complaining about a companies practices whilst still enjoying their products. Who doesn't bitch and moan about decisions their team makes whilst still going to games and buying their shirt.

Oh and I think the "I went to Gamesday and all I got..." shirt is a great idea.

I was wondering when the high horse would ride in...
A) I can easily afford 'luxury items' but I know when enough is enough.
B) Its always great to get called on the use of hyperbole. Thanks!
C) I've never used wiki as a source of information.
D) On the contrary, At all times as I posted my last message I was calm and collected.
E) I'd rather be a 'fool' than remain silent and accept it as you obviously would.
F) As you have a grander oversight please feel free to elighten us with your wisdom.
G) And yep you've managed to flame me! Bear in mind that I write this in a calm and collected way.

A bit glib but consider that there will be a big audience all listening to this; what will they make of it? I'm positive they'll see through BS when they hear it. I have been to one of their events and seen how smooth they are with their powerpoint presentations. I have not seen anyone raise a serious point with them before. I think they will be stopped in their tracks. If people are serious about calling GW to account all avenues must be explored.

You're not familiar with the concept of "call security" are you?

That would be more effective. I do like your earlier one though with forwarding a receipt of purchases from a competitor and why. I'm not keen on owning stock in this entity.

I'm going to Chicago Games Day, and have in fact set up meetings with some of the GW higher ups for both Friday and Saturday nights.
I've prepared many questions and expect to get answers. These questions are:

1. So, what good beer do they serve here in Chicago?
2. Can you pass me another beer?
3. Hmmm, Jaegerbomb, this is a fruitpunch, right?
4. Why go to sleep, it's only 3 hours until the first Waagh?
5. Is there more beer?

I'll be going in asking these hard questions, and expect some answers!

Try to keep the protest rallies on the quiet side if you start early, I'm pretty sure my heads going to hurt something fierce.

But those answers better be spoken quietly! Oh my head!

This is why they make the threads and posts complaining - they're looking for validation.

The people genuinely leaving would be over in the warmahordes forums starting threads like "how do I get started with Cryx?"

In their defense, they could be doing both.

Now thats how you do it.

I would imagine games day is fun. Part for the cool stuff on display/available to buy and partly for watching the rabid fanboys cream themselves at every little thing.

Whats my game?

10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes

Your level of anger and frustration will do nothing to change how people feel about your idea. Doesn't add any validity to your points.
People are a bit negative on the internet about things like this because someone is spouting off about a protest/petition/boycott all the time. Talk is cheap on the internet.

Has anyone EVER stood up at gamesday and said; "I think your models are great, however due to your incessant price rises I am being forced out of the hobby along with a great many others.

Yep, they sure have. Not an original idea. Not to burst your bubble, but the guy giving the presentations generally isn't Mark Wells or Tom Kirby. The question gets answered something like "..Yes...well, not something I can handle, meanwhile, lets take a look at the new stuff coming out.."

Now come on; how the hell is asking this question going to get someone thrown out?

Because you are attending a hobby seminar, interupting, and trying to make a scene. It's a confrontational action, that the person running the seminar can't answer. Rather than upset the 50-100 people wanting to get an answer about new models, they ask you to sit down and be quiet. If you won't, they ask you to leave. If you won't leave, they call security. (Or the 450 lb guy with tatoos, who really wants to hear about the new Necron models, snaps your neck and tosses your body in the dumpster. Be careful who you piss off. Some people take there toy soldiers seriously.)

My point is NO ONE has ever stood up at these events and took them to task.

And you'd be wrong. Happens all the time.

Try this mindset; To hell with being silent, silence gets you nowhere. Many naysayers need to realise this.

Not agreeing with a idea they disagree with doesn't make people naysayers. More like realists. There's a time and place to bang your head against the wall and protest something. Games Day isn't going to be one of them.

But I do love the irony of paying money to go to games day to protest paying money.

Naw, the younger kids get excited about most everything, but the real fanboyz take a lot to impress. If you've been a few times before, you've seen a lot of tables and cool stuff, so you've built up a bit of resistance. But there's always a few things at a GD that will grab everyones attention. My club does a table every year. If someone walks up, stares...their jaw drops...and they say something like "...holy fething emperor on a crutch", then we feel we did a good job.

You should run up to Chicago. I'm spending a couple of hours cutting out pieces for a 12' long Chaos Cruiser today.....

I don't like most of the other games systems which is why I've not started anything now. However, I have stopped my already reduced purchases from GW and do not plan to make any more until things improve and whilst I complain, I don't feel that my thoughts or actions need validating.

I just personally have reached the end of the GW resin brick road.

Again please let me clarify; I'm not ranting and raving. The big problem with messaging like this is the lack of being able to fully convey the tone of the message, how many times have nearly everybody on the net read something and came away with the wrong interpretation? The only thing I could be accused of is inciting Dakkaites to unite instead of tearing strips off each other. I mean Dakka take the credit for GW releasing the Dark Angels sprue as a seperate item, surely that shows that they are listening? Yet when it comes to tackling GW over recent events, all we do is attack each other. If Dakka united more we'd be taken more seriously. Even as I finish typing this I already sense being shouted down.

Its not the messaging. We hear you loud and clear. Unfortunately many of the responses don't like the idea.

Frazzled, you are probably right. I've said my bit on the whole GW debacle and will say no more. Still, it would be great if we could show a totally unified website. Dreaming, I know.

Shouted? Hardly. You have people on the internet disagreeing with you about going to Games Day and confronting GW over prices.

You are free to do what you want, you might just not get much support.

Seriously...

Personally I don't really have an opinion on GW price increases, I already own 50k of orks and if GW makes something I want, I buy it. Prices really doesn't deter me and I don't feel the prices are out of line with their peers or 'unsustainable' for the marketplace. Would I like it to be cheaper? I would like lots of things to be cheaper! But my personal earning power still outpaces inflation and general price increases so it isn't bothering me at all. If the market can bear it, GW can do it. I believe the market can and will bear it and this was not the straw that broke any back.

As for the south American shipping, I don't particularly have a problem with that either. I can't blame GW for Austrailia's import and economic differences the same way I can't blame them for stuff costing more in Canada. I do feel internet discounters undercut FLGS and that many gamers are abusive selfish mooches that cause harm to local gaming venues by never buying retail. If you game at a FLGS for a % of your time, you should buy locally with them a % representative of your purchasing. Just like you shouldn't go out to eat if you can't tip 20%, you shouldn't game at a FLGS if you can't buy product at full retail without the deep discount. If gamers were already paying where they played, this wouldn't be an issue. But gamers do not. So I don't particularly have a problem with any of GW's heavyhanded tactics in regards to this. People should pay where they play. If GW ended all internet discounting, I would be ok with that too by the way. People are ruining it for everyone because they can't even buy locally 25% of the time. If ending all internet discounting was the only way they could force or promote 'pay where you play' then I would be fine with it.

I simply don't have a problem with these 'beefs'. I am actually more impacted by the possible high number of flaws of finecast over the cost it took them to re-do all the metal molds in resin molds and the increased cost.

So don't pretend you are speaking for 'everyone' when you stand up to GW...

Because this is the real world, kid. You can't change GW. Their core customers are slack-jawed drooling morons who pay with their hobby with Daddy's credit card, paint their models to look like dog excrement and can't fathom any game more complex than Warhammer's current lobotomised edition.

Walk away. That's my message. Walk away.

After so many posts and pages of the same fething thing, I just have to ask:

Is it that hard for people to just stop buying GW stuff?

Just stop.

Not for a day. Not for a week. Not for a month. Not for a year. Not after buying all you need for your current army. Not from an online discounter. Not secondhand from eBay or Bartertown.

Just stop now. Forever.

A picket outside Aus GD this year would probably attract media attention (one of our commercial television stations is across the carpark from the venue) and they would probably be doing a fluff piece about the "wierdos" anyway - they do the same thing for the "supanova" multimedia comic and movies and stuff conventions.

Hey man, can't help but note that you, like myself, are from Scotland.

So, erm....why do you give a rats ass what happens to gamers on the other side of the world? Seriously? Where's the reason for solidarity?

And you are aware the people you meet at Gamesday aren't that much more important, steering the business wise, than a spod working one day a week in a shop yes? They make the models, write the rules, paints the models...but they do not set the prices.
