I play a DIY chapter using SW rules. Blood Wolves. Purple and red, often silver trim.
But I like the Space Wolves because of their fluff. At the end of the day they are the closest the Imperium has to good guys. And I like that.

I've converted and painted Death-watch and Mentor Legion to "count as" Sternguard.

Love it! I'm space smurfs 1st company (ever since 2nd edition also)... with about 4 squads of 2nd Company and 1 squad of 3rd Company

I enjoy the low expectations of playing UMs.... and the sweet smell of a victory when I lose less than a dozen models and they're all wiped out (this would be at the store, not at tourneys).

Plus I have SW (not yet 1K points) and a DIY "Storm Lions", which are the survivors of the betrayed Celestial Lions, seeking asylum in Utramar space (about 2K points of these guys)

While I've only painted a handful of them, so far, my marines are/will be Angels Porphyr. I love the scheme and opted for them over the nearly identical Eagle Warriors, as practically nothing is known about them - they're a codex chapter with one named Dreadnought a single record of involvement in a single conflict (literally all I could find about them). This leaves me the option of filling in fluff if I ever develop the desire, but people won't necessarily expect it, as they're an established chapter.

Most of them ready to play ( ie wysiwyg and painted ), BA are WIP. RG awaits transfer to 5th ed. GK only a few squads from DH and boxed plastics.., SW only a few models ( 500-1000pts ), Crimsons swords and deathwatch out-of-service yet.
So except some incomplete armies (SW) or lost support ( DW ) all may be fielded in varying sizes.

Salamanders, 1st company Firedrakes. I was having a tough time deciding which chapter to go with, and as soon as I started reading up on them, I started liking them more and more. Green is easily my favorite color, I'm a large fan of incendiary weapons, and I like their fluff with Vulkan and the lost artifacts and such. In addition to that, their habit of doing everything they can to save civilians sets them apart from most other chapters I know of. The Tome of Fire trilogy has been pretty good so far, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who has the slightest bit of curiosity about this chapter.

Salamanders, Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons, Crimson Fists, Grey Knights, renegade chapter known as the Red Apostles, Blood Angles successor, non Chaos but split between joining the World Bearers and staying loyal to The Emperor if not the Imperium. Post-Heresy Dusk Raiders led by Captain Garro.

BT and GK for me. I have a bunch of Vanilla commanders as well.

I play Flesh Tearers, I love the color and emblem, but the fluff is awesome. A doomed rejected Chapter and a master who is trying to stop the madness and gain the trust of the IoM.

Salamanders. Two reasons: First, they're easy to paint. I tried Imperial Fists, but yellow is an ungodly hard color to paint. Same with my second choice, White Scars. But after I picked my army, I did some more looking into the Salamanders background, and I found I like them. I like that they put their role as protectors ahead of their role as warriors. And Vulkan Hestan's Chapter Tactics doesn't hurt either.
