Luckily there are 4 variations, much like there are 4 variations on Sith. Combined I would say the Sith and Jedi will make up the vast majority of the game. I'm not sure Jedi will be the most played though as I see more people wanting to play Sith (evil is good baby, down with government!) and dual wield their little girly red lightsabers.
I think its all going to come down to balance. This is an MMO, so there's a good chance that the desire to be competitive/have the optimum build will help counteract the "ZOMG lightsabre!!!!" effect.

Well, partly because I nothing about what was before the movies, lol.
So, there was a fully functioning Republic and Sith state as separate factions? I would then assume that the Republic won, and that is why in the movies the Sith are basically just hiding behind the Trade Federation, and then they eventually destroy the Republic and its a big switcharoo with the Republic being the rebels and all.
Did I get that right?

There was a fully functioning Republic that lasted from this timeframe(The 'Rise of the Republic' era) to the 'Revenge of the Sith' movie.
There was a Sith Empire, it was essentially an extragalactic entity at that timeframe. It's all very vague and confused, but the basics of it is that the 'Sith' that we're seeing in the movies aren't actually really associated with the Sith from the Sith Empire. They've come across the teachings of the Sith and basically assumed the mantle themselves.

We can only assume that the sith empire got ripped a new butthole by the republic somehow. Who knows? Revan and the Exile could have something to do with it, and there has already been 3 different hints in the TOR trailers as to Revan still being alive, or at least in stasis. If Revan is dead, at least HK-47 certainly isnt. Aquireable party member too!

There's no actual assumption about it. There was an entire comic series about it way back in the day by Dark Horse, which ended with the Jedi Order of the time scouring Yavin 4 with a Force powered holocaust.
Since then, there's been some Sith popping up here and there about it. The issue is that Revan and the Exile were alive during the whole height of this "Sith War" so it kind of confuses things.

If I remember correctly from the Dark Side handbook it basically said that at the earliest days of the Jedi Order their was a dispute about whether the Dark Side should be studied and understood. The ones who thought it should left and were never heard from again.
Apparently they found a planet, Sith, and insinuated themselves into it and took over. They studied the Dark Side and force alchemy. A thousand years later an explorer ship showed up from some weird place called "The Republic" and the Sith were all like "Oh snap", and followed the ship back and wanted to take over as well as get revenge on an old enemy from their lore, which they didn't really know that much about.
Huge war ensued and eventually the Jedi triumphed and ect ect.

Was that the Hyperspace war?
Either way Kan, I actually noticed, from the earliest earliest fluff to the very last second of star wars history, there is talk of Exar Khun! So super early on he was a super powerful sith lord that I think used to be a jedi, and at the end they find his soul / dark side force energy trapped on yavin and destroy it, saving Luke (Memory getting sketchy now)

I was just watching a couple videos of this at work. I'm not totally sold. Maybe If I do some research or check out links about the game I might like it more. The initial cinematic trailers were nice. I love Star Wars and all but... I don't know... "I got a bad feeling about this."

Uh... yes? why would graphics influence my selection of games? (i should make this clearer) the aesthetics of combat and how it feels doesn't look right, this is my only grudge against the game (i'd still play it though) but this is what i have seen from the footage on their main website (and this is a personal view) this could change if i actually played the game but the closed beta isn't available to Australia.

Imo combat looks amazing....for an MMO. I mean name one MMO where hits actually match up?
Between voice acting, it being star wars, it having the best combat of any MMO, and the intrigue behind finding out what happened with Revan, I'm sold.
The graphics are much better than they used to be as well.

There's two.
The Jedi Sentinel and Sith Marauder advanced classes.
Sentinel is the ' DPS' specialty for the Jedi Knight 'class'.
Marauder is the same for the 'Sith Warrior'.
