Well then maybe they should do something to encourage sales from their own stores/region. Right now there's no incentive, but rather than creating one, they just created a veritable black market. Good plan!!!!

Yet still charged at half the price? I don't think so...

Of course there's no incentive, when you can go online and buy the same thing using your currency exchange voodoo and get a far better deal--and that's not even involving a discounter like Maelstrom/Wayland.

Really, like I said: it was a dumb idea and targeting one of the symptoms of a wider malady. It's like setting your head on fire to prevent acne.

My Terminator Chaplain(don't judge me. Deathwing needs someone fancy being the 2nd in command. ) ended up exactly what I expected it to be going by the US prices.

Maybe they've ironed out the kinks, maybe my order page got reset during the order or something to the US site or what, I don't know. But I know the price I picked it out in was GBP and was charged in USD at the list price($15) and it worked out to $16.50(15+10% sales tax) with the voucher I had from them for free shipping due to a SNAFU with an order last year.

PLEASE no more stating the obvious.

Maybe we should just keep stating the obvious right back...that there are other, better ways to make a profit, in the form of sales, rewards programs and other incentives, things that other companies employ (and recently GW's competitors even, like PP offering free shipping and bonus goodies for starter boxes or Infinity Week), instead of raising prices every year because they're fething stupid and don't know how to do anything else except charging more money for less.

sarpedons-right-hand wrote:The last point you made (sorry, using an iPhone and the quote thing is hard to do), being in the UK an FLGS is much harder to find than in the US.
Every time I read a post by a person based on the US about thier local game shop being a place where they can buy wargame mini's and generally chat about all things hobby, I get a large twinge of jealousy!
If you want to do that here, you need to be lucky and actually HAVE an FLGS in the vicinity. And this is the biggest problem.
For most of us in the UK the only B&M stores are GW official stores, and this means being subjected to the hard sell by trained monkeys who treat everyone that goes into the store as novices/people who wouldn't know a Space Marine if it sat on them.

Thus the Internet is the only real viable means for people to actually buy GW mini's and enjoy the experience. I avoid the stores like the plague, for reasons stated above. And if I have to go into one, I'll keep my head down, buy what I need and leave. Quickly.
When I started playing GW games the staff actually cared about the games and were genuine about thier excitement for the mini's and the GW hobby in general. Basically, they were gamers first and salespersons second.
Within the last 3-4 years thou, as the company became more cut-throat and greedy, so did the staff. Now, instead of being a relaxing way to spend a few hours chatting to like minded people and painting your new mini's, a visit to the local GW store is more akin to going for verruca treatment. Painful, cold and costly.
If that is the future for GW, then forget it......

No, not all stores are like that, my local one (Edinburgh) still has really positive guys that are as happy to discuss games. It is still very friendly and on a good level, they aren't shameless salesmen.

And Edinburgh is lucky enough to have a good indy store as well.

I'm lucky that my local GW has an outstanding staff member, Nicky (Foo) he is well and above any retail store staff member that i have ever met, Hats of to him.

Now if GW could find more people like him, no one would want an FLGS, this guy is so helpful i hapily spend money when he is in.

I'm from the future. The future of space

If GW wanted to support brick and mortar stores around the world, they would sell to everyone in GBP and let the local costs of business determine the local prices.

When an individual can order a single product and get it to their door at less than the wholesale price in that country, then something is wrong.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.
