I'm afraid I don't know germany`s firearms laws very well at all, but I'm amazed that you can obtain a STG44 at all? The only ones on offer here are largely vaporware and exceedingly expensive, and most of -those- are semi automatic only.

Hehe, well that's the point, ain't it? Louisiana Law states that if someone steps on to your property without permission they might as well be toast. Frazzled would agree, people in Louisiana (the real LA) don't play.

Also...I am living in Germany at the moment purely as a result of research requirements for my thesis, but my home is back in Louisiana. As such, none of my weapons are with me, as it is illegal to own a firearm in Germany, and I am forced to post on Dakka Dakka instead of shooting my beauties.

As for the STG44, I don't have it just yet. I managed to link up with some Russian buddies recently and one of them told me his grandfather is wanting to sell a captured STG44 that has all matching numbers and is in excellent condition. I am still very skeptical, but I am supposed to receive more detailed pictures within a week. If all goes well, I am hoping to link up and pick up the weapon sometime at the end of the month. We shall see, keep your fingers crossed!

Really look at the 17 vs. the 19. I know you naturally slide towards the larger, but many shooters actually prefer the slightly smaller version. I hear good things about the Gen 4 series. After about 6 months of production startup difficulties, the newer units appear to be problem free.

I'm actually really glad to hear that. I have been out of the loop on a lot of my handgun knowledge for some time now. I worked in a small town gun store for about three years in High School and I was really on top of my game back then, I have since slipped.

I own a few, mostly for recreation. I refuse to use my guns for home defense, bullets can go through people/walls and hit someone I actually like.

Now this isn't detailed and specific like my Gun Tests (but can't access here) but its a decent review of some Gen 4s. Note I'm not a Glock Nazi, you had just mentioned it, and its on of the types I am thinking about for IDPA.

Our gun laws are more lax than Australia's (oddly enough). I plan to own a Lee Enfield No.4 Mk1 when I acquire the money. Maybe an AK as well, everyone loves the AK. Probably a -74, one of the cold war ones with the wood finish.

that would be a 47 mate... been in Iraq a couple times, and had my grimy (literally at the time) paws on a few 47s.

After I get a 1911, I also have dreamed of owning my own Desert Eagle .50.. just in case the .45 caliber round 1911 aint enough. Either that, or something in 357 magnum form. Anyone know of a decent, fairly easy to use .357?

Personal defense I would say 40, better stopping power, 9mm has the irritating problem of just going through the person with minimal resistance(from what I've read), that and at least where I live 40 is cheaper than 9mm

That problem is easily fixed with the proper choice in ammunition.

One round of this will put somebody down where they stand. A shot to the shoulder would still put 'em down due to the hydrostatic shock. It's a bit pricy, but you only need one box of it for your personal defense magazine. For range shooting 9mm is cheaper than .40.

Current hollowpoints are indeed quite efficacious for .380 - .45 ACP. Hornady TAP, Federal, Gold Dot are the big standbys with Remington gold sabres the elder statesman. 230 grain Remington sabres are just what the doctor ordered for stalkers and other varmints I always say. The new CorBons are making a big splash (pardon the pun) including the all copper variants. Nasty suckers. in addition to the bullet itself the shells are more carefully loaded grainwise for consistency and often more hotloaded (+Ps for the 9mm go quite BANG! and should be restricted to military or military qualified so your Glock is fine), plus typicallyt have nickel or similar cartridge cases. Supposedly this is for rust rpevenbtion but I think its because, if you're paying $40 for 20 rounds those suckers better be real purty.

Black Hills is a good, cheap alternative in the states.

Ive got a .357 and a .410. Both are for defense I spose but I also really like going out and shooting. Ive been eyeing some Taurus firearms lately. I almost bought a .44 taurus off a friend of mine during tax season. But money seemed a bit tight to buy that and the ammo for it to shoot. But now I realized it would of been fine. Oh well

Heartily agreed here. I used to think I preferred the bigger, slower boolet on the 47 and M series AKs, but once I got some time on a 74 pattern, it was all over. Softest recoil of a "serious" rifle I have encountered, more accurate than most shooters are going to be in the field, and it doesn't have ye olde 7.62x39mm`s rainbow trajectory.

....But I still want something along the lines of THIS AK more:

Now is this a longbow or a recurved compound bow? I saw one on top shot that had rifle type sights on it. Its the first bow I drooled over.

It's a 6 foot sycamore single piece bow. It wouldn't look out of place at a medieval re enactment. With linen bowstring and goose fletching arrows as long as my forearm. I do like the modern recurve bows but more enjoy traditional ones.

The most common ones are Smith and Wesson or Rossi. S&W make really good .357.

The Holy Grail of .357 Magnum is the Colt Python. You will rarely find a used one for under $1000 USD.

I have the cheaper cousin, Colt King Cobra. It is a very well engineered revolver. Never jammed, misfired and extremely accurate. With .38 special ammo I can hit less than 1" at 10 yards.

How do you like the M&P Wardragoon? How are the sights and trigger pull. More importantly how's the reliability? S&W has had problems in the past with quality control on their autos.

I am really liking the M&P, trigger pull is 6.5 pounds constant, sights are adjustable and easily replaced, as far as reliability I have just finished breaking in one of the barrels I got for it and I havent had a single jam or misfeed, all in all I am rather impressed by it. Only things that my friends(personally I don't mind these) are the width since its a double stack .45 and the lack of a real safety(has a glockesque trigger safety)

Saddly where I live it is actually cheaper to shoot 40 than 9mm assuming you are not reloading your own ammo.

1. Ayah there are M&P carry's that have safety which is an attractive feature to me. I am not a fan of no safety/Glock safety only. 12 shot 9MM's not bad. They compare to a Beretta Storm X4, Ruger Sr9c, XDM concealed and glock 26(?).

2. Have you tried Cheaper than Dirt, Sportsman's Guide or other sporting good websites? Steer clear of Impact Zone. I've heard bad about them. During the Obama Bullet Bubble (where's my bullet bubble bailout?) I procured a fair amount of rounds off of CTD, SG, and Cabellas.

I love the Ruger 10/22 , it's a great little "plinking" rifle, you can target shoot all day and spend next to nothing feeding it, plus it's a rugged gun.
