I usually say I'm British. Though with an ethnic background including Swiss, English, American, Irish, Jewish and more, it means nothing to my identity and just feels like 'this is the government that issues my passport'.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Hehe, I wish.
I won't give out my full name, but my middle name is Gawain, to give a idea.
Our Sons have welsh middle names, oddly I seem to have given them both non British first names for some odd reason, but I like them.
Isn't Gawain cornish for green?

That it is.
Cornish is very related to welsh and Gaelic though so I wouldn't be surprised if the word was shared.

I identify myself as a New Yorker/New Jerseyian (born in NYC and lived there for 13 years, but my more 'formative' years were spent in NJ), if the person I'm speaking to doesn't know what that is (which hardly ever happens, I clarify it with its a us state/I'm american).

Yes, its both, by some sort of twist of fate, my first name is also shared between Welsh and Cornish, so it was slightly ironic that I ended up living in Cornwall for nigh on 25yrs from about the age of eight, and had to explain to folks through my school years that no my parents wheren't honoring the local language with my names.

For the first two years of my life I was a citizen of Connecticut, for the next three years of my life I was a citizen of Illinois, for the next 16 years of my life I was and still am a citizen of Virginia. Sure the north has its advantages like coffee syrup and a vast amount of shipping influence, but the south has barbecue, fishing, and a lot of guns that still have serial numbers attached to them.
I'm a Virginian to fellow americans and an American to non-Americans because it makes it that much easier. Automatically Appended Next Post: Cannerus_The_Unbearable wrote:Another vote for Texan here.

If someone asks me where I was born, I say Louisiana.
If someone asks me where I'm from, I say Texas (because that's where I currently live). Were I to move to Arkansas, I'd say I was from Arkansas.
My accent will mark me as American to anybody, so no need to point it out.

I identify as British, because that´s the most accurate description, given that my parents were not both English.
Within the UK, I´m Northern. That usually suffices.
