I had a football camp held at my high school one summer. Now, in my hometown, my HS is the oldest one around, the current building was finished in 1907. Anyhow.. so, we KNEW that there were no female types present on campus, because it was july, and so all the teachers, admins, and janitors were gone, aside from football players, and coaches. Long story short, as a right of passage, we would go up through the 3rd floor (which was an attic) and up to the highest rafters in order to ring the still working school bell... One night, while doing this, I myself heard high heels walking through the halls, which i followed, yet all of the doors were locked and closed, and this "high heeled" person was not there. There was also, the second night I was trying to show some of the underclassmen the way, we saw a library cart in the hall, which was weird by itself (because it wasnt there the night before, and no one went to the library).. but right in front of us, it started rolling. Up in the actual attic area, there is a large assortment of old school-type paraphernalia, desks, chalkboards, etc. It was at one of the desks that I saw a 'person' sitting at one (the only light in there was from my own flashlight, though they were seen without my light)

Talked to one of my family friends, who joined the marines, and later became a night security guard who's beat was the school (he was also alum, and had rang the bell before).. he had also dealt with the library cart, and the high heels, but also "locked" doors would be open on one pass, but then later on they would slam.. causing him to work more, and freak him out.

My school was built with a bomb shelter underneath, but I don't know of anyone who has been in it, nor anyone who "knows someone" who has.. Makes me wonder what i would find in there.

Just recalled another "story" My Grandmother ( who was an ER nurse used to tell us)...again nothing I myself witnessed...but something everyone at the hospital swore to..

...The story went that the Hospital was haunted by the ghost of a young girl, who dozens of the nurses and staff there claim to have heard laughing from time to time...
The spooky part was that anytime a paitent said they saw a little girl looking in the door of their room...that paitent was dead within the next 24 hours....or so the story goes.

I grew up in an area of North QLD, Aus that has the highest incidence of confirmed UFO reports in the country.

Growing up with kids who lived on cane farms, there always seemed to be a recent sighting in the local paper or circulating at school.

While I was out fishing with mates on the local river we saw lights moving over the nearby cane... now, being 15 or so at the time, we had been drinking and smoking pot, so we couldnt exactly confirm what it was or call the police... but since all 3 of us remembered it, it wasnt just our minds playing tricks on us.

Well, this one can be explained as a night terror/sleep paralysis case although it has certain elements that don't quite match up, anyway it freaked me out nonetheless. Anyway, it was this past spring break and I wasn't feeling well, I was lying in bed and fell asleep. I had a dream that a cult had taken me hostage, and was using me as a physical host to summon the antichrist from hell (or some demon or something like that). They started chanting or whatever and performing a ritual, which I was trying to resist, screaming and thrashing against my bindings, etc. At this point I woke up, and did the whole "shoot bolt upright and breathe heavily" thing you always see in movies and on TV. I'm not really much of a dreamer really, I generally don't remember them, and even when I do dream they are generally rather 'meh' either being positive in nature or overall neutral in theme. Anyway, I lie back down to try to fall back asleep (although I'm kinda wired and tense, worried that I'll have that dream again) and I'm taking deep breaths to try and calm down and lower my heart rate. Then I realize that I can still hear the chanting from the dream in my head, worse still its getting louder, and I can't think of anything else. I decide to try to get up to go to the bathroom or somesuch, and I can't move. At this point I'm scared shitless, because being a bit of a nerd, I've read about supposed alien abductions, and they generally say that unexplainable paralysis is a sign that you're being abducted. I start FREAKING OUT trying as hard as I can to move some part of my body and I start panicking, and then I start feeling I'm being choked and I can't breathe. I try screaming (which wouldn't have helped, I was home alone) and can't, I'm panicking even harder at this point, the chanting is getting even louder still, and then it feels like there is something large inside my throat and its working its way up to my mouth. The chanting continues getting louder until it seems almost deafening, and then it stops. As the object feels like it approaches my throat, I hear a voice, which sounded much like what I imagine a demon might sound like. I can't recall what it said to me, but whatever it was gave me feelings of terror, that much I'm certain of. Finally the lump got to my mouth, and then I could breathe again, I went to sit up in bed (finally being able to move again), and then I was physically forced back down into my bed, I was thrashing about trying to get up, but I couldn't. It felt like there were a pair of large hands locked around my throat and I was being choked again, although this time I was able to gasp for air whereas before my airway seemed completely blocked, it also felt like there was something really heavy on top of me keeping me pinned down. I kept thrashing and struggling, and then everything went black and I guess I passed out. I woke up an unknown amount of time later, able to breathe normally, and feeling better. I was no longer running a temperature/not puking, etc. I didn't feel ill at all, with the exception of a sore throat, which was not one of my previous symptoms.

Again, I chalk it up to a night terror (I think I was dreaming even when I thought I was being choked the second time), although its still really weird how I woke up feeling fine except the sore throat.

Okay, I will start this out with, I don't really believe in ghosts all that much. I am pretty skeptical, sure, something like that MAY be possible in the respect that anything is really possible. But, yeeeah.

Anyways, despite that. I have had some really odd things happen to me in my grandparents house. Really, you need a slight back story. My grandparents built their house. Nobody else has ever lived in it besides them. To my knowledge, and theirs, nobody has died within the home. Despite that, really weird things have happened with me there.

I have memories of growing up in the house and there being a pool table in the living room. My grandparents used to own a pool table and I swear on all that is holy that it was in the living room when I was growing up and I remember climbing up on top of it and getting in a lot of trouble for doing it as a kid. My mother and pretty much my entire family tells me that the pool table has not been in the house since before I was born.

Another odd thing about the house is, I have claimed that weird things have happened in the house for a long time. Long before my father and I really had a relationship where we talked. I would always say how at night I could hear weird things downstairs. Now, this house is in the country so I allow for some weird noises. They have raccoons in the attic that get between the walls and such things. But I hear stuff like, furniture scooting. You know that quick scoot you can do with furniture on a wood floor? Kind of makes a slight high pitched sound. I hear that, I also hear ice trays at times when I sleep there.

Another time my best friend and I were sleeping downstairs in the recliners as children. We both had blankets over our heads and were attempting to sleep when I could feel something blowing on my face. Naturally I was a little upset over this as I had a blanket over my face. So I said "Hey man, are you breathing on me?" I get the reply. "No, I was going to ask if you were breathing on me." We both decided to wake up and turn thee TV on and watch it for the rest of the night. You know, because ghosts are terrified of telivision.

Finally, my last little paranormal story, it is kind of quick. While living at my grandparents house I have always noticed things out of the corner of my eyes. It is always the same thing and it has really only happened at their house. If I walk from the front room to the kitchen, I have seem out of the corner of my eye, a black hooded figure walking through the door way just down the kitchen the opposite way as me. So I am walking in, it is walking out. I just get a flash of the hooded robe. Nothing more. No face, no scythe or anything to signify death. Just the robed figure.

So that is what I got. Also, a little more backstory on my grandparents house. While nobody that we know of has died within the house. My grandfather and I suspect that many people have died on the property. I live in Southern Illinois and there was a notorious gang around my area called the Shelton Gang. This was way back in the day but my grandparents used to be great friends with their hitman, Blackie Harris. He was a cool dude I hear. Anyways, my grandpa has found things such as brass knuckles, several pairs, and a snub nosed revolver in his garden while he was tilling it.

Anyways, good stuff. I am tired, I typed a ton. Enjoy.

I've had sleep paralysis. Some of the stuff you mention is fairly typical, including the sensation of a presence in the room with you. I only saw a dark shape, although I know some people have more detailed experiences. IIRC, that's your brain trying to make sense of it all, kind of like the way it fits outside sensations into a dream you're having. A little bit of an old D&D tie in here -- in olden times sleep paralysis was known as the "old hag" or...night hag.

My experience was that the first time was the scariest...after that, I learned what it was and although I had a few more paralysis episodes, I never got the hag/presence part again.

Sorry...know the OP didn't want debunkers to chime in.

Got a couple more.. these actually from an "eyewitness account" type book... both of the stories that stuck out to me were from WW2, and since i'm a soldier now, it kinda resonates with me.

So, on D-day, the LCI boats were coming in, and when the ramp dropped on one of them, the germans had their sights pegged, and the front dude dropped. Well, according to the rest of the guys in that craft, the second dude ran up to the beach, and "single handedly" took out the MG nest that was going to be killing the rest on the boat... after he saved everyone else on the boat, they rushed out, got to the beach, only to see his actual body, lying dead in the water only a foot from the ramp.

The other story I remember was that of a B-17 crew returning from a particularly rough mission. The bottom of the plane was shot to shreds, and the landing gear wasnt working. The belly gunner was an amateur cartoonist (and the one who designed the nose art for this particular bird), and while everyone was basically praying that they could survive the crash, he was busy doodling a B-17 with cartoonish wheels. The plane landed safely, and no one on the crew was killed, except for the belly gunner. And ground crew testimony was that the plane "hovered" at one altitude, as though it had landing gear, before ultimately slamming down, crushing the gunner.

All kidding aside I saw a fox one night looking at me from behind a bush/shrub/plant of some kind and when it moved I could've sworn it was missing its feet and hovering. The other story I have is more of a "My family are all A-Holes" occurrence than anything so I won't bother posting it.

I watched a documentary on such happenings in my Psychology class...apparently people have actually died from such experiences. Its freaky stuff but it all boils down to the power of suggestion: If your brain is convinced its real, it will be.

There was also an episode of Scrubs, or House.. only it was a cat.. they later figured out that it was because the cat was seeking warmth, and inadvertently was turning something off.. or something like that.

Not really paranormal, but and old friend back in school saw ball lightning, in his living room, when lightning struck the high voltage lines running through his garden. Whole room was singed and he got some minor burns. Happened in the middle of the night and just turned his room from total darkness to extremely bright blue-ish.

Are you sure you're not confusing this with an episode of Amazing Stories? Specifically, "The Mission."

Wasn't that an episode of Amazing Stories from the '80s? Which were completely fictional, unless the writers "stole" that story from reality...

The plane landed safely, and no one on the crew was killed, except for the belly gunner. And ground crew testimony was that the plane "hovered" at one altitude, as though it had landing gear, before ultimately slamming down, crushing the gunner.

Wasn't that an episode of Amazing Stories from the '80s? Which were completely fictional, unless the writers "stole" that story from reality...

Not sure when the book came out, but it would not be beyond the realm of possibility that the book or tv show took inspiration from each other (couldnt really say for sure, as I don't recall how old the book was when i read it.. it was real young, so copyright dates were trivial and meaningless to me). But, I do distinctly remember reading it as one of a collection of ghostly stories in a book. I have actually never heard of that TV show, though I was born in the 80s.. so i would be too young to watch anyhow.

You may want to google paranormal research.

No, he may not, because Albatross is a man of common sense and intestinal fortitude and as a result finds this entire thread as laughable as I do.

In your base, ignoring your logic.

As a Catholic, I am obligated to believe in ghosts.

As far as hauntings go I've never experienced one, a night terror once for sure but never a haunting. My relatives have some stories about their wartime experiences with ghosts and what not, but nothing too amazing or memorable. Then again, they're war stories and sometimes soldiers make their own stories.

A friend of mine had a buddy in Iraq, one night they decided to put red plastic over their headlights and found a camel skull in the desert. They decided it would be best to put the skull over the headlights and drive around with the potential of scaring someone. So anyone who saw them would have a story I guess.

Gosh. Lets not turn this into a flame war, K?
Albatross, Matyrm, would it really be out of the question to take a look-see? You may just be suprised at what you find.

I am not a believer myself, because it hasn't happened to me. But still I find these stories fascinating. I have read that ghostly voices have been recorded, and digitally amplified so that we can hear them. Photos have been taken using thermographic imaging which show human like shapes where none were present.

So go ahead and take a peek. Unless you're afraid of the dark.......

I dunno if this would count as paranormal, but it was certainly fething strange and Ive yet to ever figure out what exactly I saw. My brother and I, when we still lived at my parents house were going out to eat. My folks house is on a busy road. So as we turned out onto the road we saw this young man, Id guess around 20s, jogging on the side of the road. My brother pulled out, and for some reason our eyes were drawn to the guy jogging, and suddenly, the only way I could describe it was to say, it looked like his was lifted off the ground by a foot or so, and with REALLY long strides he just bolted across the street and ran past a good 3 houses before running into the ditch of one house and was gone. It floored both of us, my brother literally hit the skids in the middle of the road and we just sat there for a second trying to figure out what the hell we just saw. The dude went across the intersection, and past 3 houses, and mind you where my folks live, the houses all have 2 or 3 acre yards, so it was a big ass gap he cleared, and he did it in probably 4 of his strides. It was over with in 2 or 3 seconds. Pretty damn weird

If you pay attention to all the stories, it's the non-beleivers who get hit by paranormal stuff, almost always after saying "I don't beleive in it" for a long time....

One time I heard footsteps on gravel while out camping, right outside my window (and I mean, RIGHT outside my window), when it was nothing but grass for a good fifty feet.

Behind you

Okay,

My first big experience was down at bridgetown in the South West, I was outside at night talking to my friend on a mobile. The creek area just 500 meters down from us went silent, and on a farm that just doesn't happen. I saw 3 lights in a triangle shape slowly moving across the sky, the stars didn't shine in the middle of them. my phone cut out, and I watched this thing fly slowly over the sky. Either it was a HUGE plane, or sustaining a speed that meant it would've fallen out of the sky. I couldn't hear any engines or anything.

Second experience was walking the underground vault tour in the edinborough vaults. In one of the cave rooms, I started hearing whispering and smelt this really foul whiskey breath. Got a little freaked out, and when I left, asked the tour guide if there was a ghost in the room, she said it was of an old cobbler who was violent. After the show, we went into the gift shop, and the lights fused in the gift shop as I came into the room. Coincidence? maybe?

Probably work

The only thing I have is that, when I was at my parents house in high school, I didn't sleep a whole lot. This was mostly because of the fact that I was young and didn't feel the need to sleep. I was on about 35 or so hours without sleep at this point. I was working on a project for school in my bedroom with the door open, and I happened to glance out the door and I saw someone standing there, staring at me. I jumped back and freaked out a bit, being tired and stressed from the project. After calming down, I turned on a light in the hall only to find that it was a pile of things roughly the height of a man. My parents were remodeling, so junk was piled wherever it could go, and they just happened to put things there. It was the still 'real' in my mind, which still freaked me out for a while afterward. That was my first experience with hallucination from sleep deprivation.

Turns out, given enough means to quantify and measure the 'paranormal' event, you can actually find a logical explanation for it's cause.

Like UFO cases and the like, I'm fully confident that 99.99% of experiences can be logically explained. It's that other .01% that interests me.

My experience is why I don't discount all of it. Three of us all heard the exact same thing, and there was no mistaking what it was.

I am also a skeptic, but 3 times I have seen something in the sky that I cannot explain.

Also my dad saw sasquatch when he was around 14 years old near Olympia, WA.

Dragons, man. DRAGONS.

Well, I did have a nasty run in with a prank Ouija Board. Nasty things, Ouija Boards.

It was one of those prank Quija Boards, with the magnets in 'em to make like you were actually being pulled. When I was eight, I felt brave on a Saturday, so at midnight I pulled out the magnets to see if it would actually work. At first it didn't do anything, just sat doing nothing with the view on the "O". So then I left to get some late night beverage, I think I got milk, now that I'm flashing back. Anyway, when I came back the view was on V now. I thought that was pretty freaky, but I had balls back then. I turned away, waited a minute, then turned back. Sure enough, it was on R now. Now I was pretty stubborn back then, but I was starting to get freaked out. But it was one of those horrors where you just HAVE to push the envelope. So I repeated the process. Turn away, now it's on a space. Turn, D. Turn, O. Turn, S.

All in all, it spelled out "Ovr Dos". I put up the board, and after a few hours I managed to get to sleep. When I woke up the next morning, everyone was crying and freaked out. Turns out my cousin Merle hung himself about midnight the night before because he took too many anti-depressants.

Now, this is probably my exaggerated mind at work, or faulty memory, but when you put the Es in Merle into Ovr Dos, you get Over dose.

I later realized my stepping had been bumping the board, making the view move a bit each time.

These are really good so far, even if they can be logically explained, I find them interesting to read nonetheless.

I don't have much to share apart from one instance several years ago where I was with a few friends at night, and all of our electronic devices turned off (phones, ipods, etc.). I can't remember if anything larger did (lights/tv/computer) but it was only for a few minutes anyway when we were able to manually turn them back on.

I can think of a few things like a mild EMP spike generated from something but my knowledge of things like that is very minimal. I know there was no large power lines or stations nearby, however.
