That article made me think back to my days wearing a red shirt...getting phone calls for people trying to make a reservation at Game Works, or people calling looking for the latest pokeman game

Finecast should be funny but it's not so it's OT for a thread for a mocking article.

I get the joke, but I find the exaggerations of names to fall flat. I think they went to hard for the "geeks are sooo like this" slant and/or the "let's provoke the geeks into correcting us" troll.

The Daily Mash is an excellent read - try the horoscope section in particular.

This week, if you're feeling so disenfranchised and angry about something or other you overheard at the bus stop that you feel like setting fire to something, why not start with your own s**thole of a house?

"Bloody typical, they've gone back to metric without telling us."

"As the days go by, we face the increasing inevitability that we are alone in a godless, uninhabited, hostile and meaningless universe. Still, you've got to laugh haven't you?"

"We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty!"

"Mind the oranges Marlon!"

Why are they rioting?

If anything, we had expected riots in AUS over GW pricing first...

A bit of background, then...

The event that started the riots was the shooting of a Tottenham guy by armed police. At the time the reports were that he opened fire first - it now turns out that he merely had a loaded handgun with him in the car (which is still a pretty huge offence in the UK - basically, if you're driving around Tottenham estates with a loaded gun and a criminal record, you're probably in a gang and you're probably going to shoot someone...)

This led to a peaceful protest in Tottenham, which then became a bit LESS peaceful. At some point, the local teenagers started looting, and suddenly all the little hoodie kids seemed to realise that there weren't enough police around to stop them, if they all acted together, from taking whatever they wanted. Cue the start of days of 'riots', but where all political motivation had been lost and it was basically three days of teenage chavs looting any shop the police weren't currently standing next to.

The first two days were confined to Tottenham, but on Monday horrible teenagers everywhere wanted a new pair of trainers, and so 'rioting' spread over London to Hackney, Bethnal Green, Clapham etc. After Monday night, the police put their reinforcement plans into place, and on Tuesday night London was flooded with 16000 officers and has been suspiciously quiet for the rest of the week. By Tuesday, of course, the same thing had started happening, to a lesser degree, in other cities, most notably in Birmingham. It's all stopped now, and courts are working through the night to process the hundreds of people arrested.

If you believe the government and the Daily Mail (right), it was just 'rampant criminality' by a criminal underclass, and police need to be harder. Send in the army. Cut all their benefits. Etc, etc

If you believe the Guardian (left), it's not their fault, the problem is that the new government have cut youth centre funding and raised university fees, they have no direction, globalisation, consumer culture, poor poor children etc etc.

The reality is somewhere in the middle, as always...

So, the solution is obvious: Mandatory youth centres enforced by the military.

Also, thank you for making me NOT the only person to address the Knight fallacy in their Sig.
