in answer to the OP... ease of use. and some people due to hearing about lysander mke the mistake of concentrating all fire on th big bad lysander ignoring more dangerous targets then lose...

he's a good addition to some lists and can be built into some very competative builds.. I still prefer shiek + assault termies though infiltrating assault terminators with fleet? ... yes please

Lysander is a good/strong HQ choice for Codex:SM especially in a drop pod with a squad of sternguard.

This is how I like using him the most. Sternguard have so much to gain with Bolter Drill, and it makes them scarily more effective. It also provides them a CC Beatstick, when you don't have the points to put a Power Weapon on the squad Sgt.

But honestly, the biggest reason why I like him so much is his chances of survival. 2+/3++ and Eternal Warrior will take a long time to kill. He alone can go toe-to-toe with any Monstrous Creature, and against other IC's, he will statistically outlast many of them (Calgar included).

That's really why I like Lysander, and 9/10 times I field him, he'll be in a Drop Pod with Sternguard.

Just to note, Vulkan won't add anything here if you use Shrike's Chapter Tactics. Remember that you can only benefit from one at any time in a game.

Personally, I'd take a Chaplain over Vulkan in this scenario anyway. Fill up with either kind of Assault Terminator, and you're good to go.

Oh,you are right.Still,infiltrating Assault Termies with MC TH is not something to be taken lightly,Fleet or no fleet.

Also good in that list is Sicarius,because all other units can use his LD,or Calgar.A fleet Calgar in Terminator armour is no laughing matter.

Not to derail the thread but it would be a moronic move to take MCed Thunderhammers over Fleet if you only consider the Termies

In my opinion, he's there to give your OTT hammer unit that something else that just makes it unbelievable.

Also, a lot of his awesomeness comes from his fluff, but this isn't really the place to discuss that.

Actually, by my mathhammer, Lysander would inflict .83 wounds to Calgar (with 3 attacks), and Calgar would inflict .81 wounds to Lysander (with 5 attacks). If Calgar were to get the Charge, that would probably tip the scale in his favor though.

I agree that Lysander is worth more for his points than Calgar is though. The amount of bonus you get from him are insane for 200.

I tried that fight yesterday.When Calgar got the charge,he won,but just.When he didn't get the charge,he got hammered,pun not intended.That was assuming they were D6X6 inches away and didn't factor in other things like banners or other units.The main advantage was Calgar's number of attacks and Ranged combat.

I forgot that lysanders TH is master crafted...still, it's very close and if he gets a round of shooting that would tip the scale but yeah, Lysander is sometimes worth his points calgar really isn't.

Calgar isn't as good as chapter masters like Logan and Draigo.That is why he is 10prts cheaper.He,unlike other Chapter Masters,he is a support HQ,eliminating the need for morale tests,and providing a trio of Honour Guard,one of why has a banner.
