I sold 130+ really old and out of print orks recently. why. Orks dont hold my interest anymore. I had some big medical bills and having this stuff sitting around taking up space in my house lead me to sell it.

I might not have sold the orks except that they just are not as much fun for me as they used to be. No finess to win with. Just charge and shoot, roll tons of dice and you win. sure there are some minor points that i glossed over like list building etc. but for the most part they seem like they require the least amount of skill to play in 40k other than spacewoofs. This is just my opinon and why i sold em. meh

You should be ashamed. Your punishment is to make a post defending Games Workshop.

I knew it as soon as I read it.....Motherless Child. I can't believe you made that ref from the hip, unconsciously. I used to get so much gak back in the day for liking that anime. "Giant power cables hanging off of them?!!?! You must be joking!"

I'm dumping my metal GW stuff because I'd rather have plastic or finecast. In order to pay for the new stuff, I'm dumping the old.

I see other people selling their old, unused stuff mainly due to the economy and stuff. They're looking to clear out their garbage and get a little bit of money in the process.

Personally I'm somewhere in the middle. Just sold a few hundred bucks worth of models on eBay that I'd been keeping for years, planning on painting someday. I still have like five 40k armies, but I have a lot less interest in expanding them these days, and money is tight, so the unpainted stuff was first to go. The crappy rules, the ever-increasing costs, building and storing 28mm terrain for multiple tables that I'll probably never complete, and poor customer relations... I just don't get as much enjoyment out of 40k as I used to.

I'm starting up other games though. Rogue Trader is a blast, and I get by with using a lot of my old terrain and GW models, plus a growing collection of models from other companies (gasp!). Battlefleet Gothic is also a fantastic little game - low model count, tight rules, lots of fun. Picking up stuff second hand.

I guess I'm not getting out of "the hobby", just not giving my money to GW as much, and shedding some dead weight to make room for other games. I imagine the economy and the price increases are having that effect on a lot of people.

Edit: I'm also starting to get the ball rolling on a 15mm sci-fi ruleset loosely based on Art Conliffe's Crossfire game, which is a totally revolutionary and awesome ruleset for those who haven't tried it. I realized my beef with 40k stems mostly from trying to fight company and bigger sized engagements with models better suited for squad level skirmishes, and all the cost, logistics, and rules issues that that entails. 15mm is cheaper and tactically more satisfying. I'm even trying my hand at casting some 15mm M113 Gavin "not-Rhinos" and 15mm knights-with-guns "not-Marines" that are coming out really well. Maybe I should start a new thread? lol

On a related tangent, not related to GW figs or ebay.

Reflecting the trend obserived in the OP, this year has been an absolute boon for me in terms of finding old metal figures that I've been looking for for years on the second hand market through convention flea markets, forums and very old store stock.

I've bought alot of cool stuff, but at the top of my list:
-Metal Magic Spacelords: Sarkdaykin Legion. The rarest faction of an already rare figure line.
-Shockforce Megacom troopers. Not as rare, but certainly not common. I even found the Stalker! (sentinel copy).
-Void Junkers. Still techincally available from Scotia, but I've gotten some great deals on used and NewOldStock.

Most of the above came to me for around 2 bucks a fig or less.

I found 2 of those in an old box in the garage a few weeks ago and gave them to one of my friends.

It's super lame to think poorly of Evangelion when you have some fourteen-thousand posts on a Warhammer forum.

And it's a Browning reference.

Recently I've noticed a venerable flood of old RT and 90's era metals on the lists. I wonder why that. Vets checking out of 40k for good. Selling stuff to buy newer stuff.

Seriously, Necromunda Farseer - check, Guardian w/Lascannon - check, Eldar Musician - check, old weapon platforms, metal warwalkers & dreads, RT Harlies - en masse, moar than I ever remember seeing. Anyone else notice, have any thoughts

RT had some great times... Too bad GW doesn't know that anymore.

You are correct. People are leaving "The Hobby". There are seriously too many choices out there to be tied down with GW and thier musical chairs way of doing business when they comeout with figures you can't use anymore.

I'm sure you can provide a comprehensive list of models that can't be used at all anymore. You do realize that they've made new rules for a bunch of stuff right? Including things that haven't been in the Warhams since the 1990's.

Your list -might- be longer than the list of games that crashed and burned for being bad or put out by bad companies. (AT43, Warzone, Shockforce, Confrontation etc)

Condescending much?

What was the point of this snipe, anyway?

Bolded for reference. "figures you can'y use anymore" is by and large, well, crap.
