Personally, as a HE player (heavy reliance on mages) I'd be more afraid of the scout move, at least for the initial shots. However, for my army, the closer they are on turn 1 that also gives me an advantage because I'll hopefully be able to get to grips with them quicker and stop them from shooting.

But even with a BS4 a -5 to hit is going to make them hit on 8's, which will negate poison. I can see how if they position them well, they will get off a shot with just a -3 and in that case, poison will help.

I'm curious, does models in the same unit give the wizard hard cover?
If the maneaters are targeting the wizard itself and not the unit, then the single model wizard would follow the cover rules for single models. The model itself must by 50%+ obscured.
Scouting maneaters on a hill could pluck him out, even if he was behind another unit.

Quick to fire means no -1 for moving.
So you're looking at Range (maybe), Cover (maybe), Sniper (-1), and multiple shot (only if allowed by sniper).
So BS4, you're going to be hitting on anything from a 4+ to 8+.

Runnin up on ya.

Yeah, they would be situational but the good thing is you don't have to decide their special abilities until you place them.

It would be great if they got the multi-shot but I think I'll play it conservatively until a FAQ.

I'm really not convinced the poison is better. I'm leaning more towards scout+sniper for shooty and scout+stubborn for backfield/anti-warmachine shenanigans.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Nope. A lone character is specifically a character who has not joined any unit. (See definition of Lone Character in main rulebook.)
A wizard inside of a unit gets no special cover from the normal guys except for Look Out Sir (which can't be taken against sniper attacks.)

For Multiple Shots, clarification could be nice.
Currently it looks like RAW is that the Sniper rule can only shoot once if he wants to snipe.
"A Special Shot instead of shooting normally" it's Not "can make special shots" or not "his shooting can hit characters within units" etc.
The latest lizardmen FAQ does not say that snipers can fire multiple shots. It used to say "when shooting with his blowpipe" which would have allowed multiple shots. The Errata says "Add Sniper, ignore the preternatural aim special rule."

This conclusion would be fine with me. Sniper talks about taking the time to carefully aim. It'd take great accuracy to pick one face hiding in a mob of 30 people at range. The recoil and movement after the first shot would mean the 2nd and 3rd or 4th shots would almost certainly hit one of the 30 bodyguards while the spooked hero ducks behind them.

Except Brace of.... indicates you have 2 weapons you fire at the same time.

i dont see any conflict in the rules between multiple shots and sniper.

and unless otherwise specified special rules stack.

Actually they changed that, so only specific special rules stack.
