I'm gonna go against the majority on this. Don't do something violent, do something relaxing. You shouldn't ever feel you need to lash out at something/anything (even your self) to make yourself feel better. That can lead to bad habits.

I find even a short ride on the bike clears out my head. The rumble of the engine, the road out in front of me, it just soothes the soul.

A couple hours on a board out on the waves, or even just sitting on the beach is fantastic for clearing the head. Now that the beach is a little too far away I walk down to our pond, throw food to the ducks and fish and just chill.

Go to where you get a good view of the sunset or sunrise, and just take it in.

Once your head is cleared, write down your real issues. Get as specific as possible. In another column write what the perfect resolution would be. Also write what an acceptable but not perfect resolution would be. Look at your solution sets and figure short and mid term, which are achievable. Make a plan to get there. Review weekly and adjust the goals/add new issues as needed.

Another thing I like to do is think of that poor sap out there that has it REALLY bad. There is always some dude who has it worse than you. Think of his predicament, laugh at his misery, and drive on.

Getting leathered won't work for me unfortunately as I don't drink due to bad effects it has on me.

No. Not video games. No matter how violent they are, I just get more and more pissed off, because its fake as all hell. The best release of anger I ever had, was I got into a fight with a "boss" figure at a Kmart I was working at for seasonal work. Im talking throw down kind of fight, it was awesome. BUT thats not the release. While I was at home, the store manager called and said I was fired because he said I had started the fight AND keyed the Aholes truck. That is where I went into rage mode, I couldnt believe that wuss pulled a girl move like that.

So I went outside so I wouldnt break my house into pieces and to have a smoke (this was years ago obviously, as I havnt smoked in many years) anywho, it just kept building, and I just went off on the shed outside. I was going to only hit it once, but after I punched that damn thing the first time, it felt good. So I hit it a few more times, and before you know it, I had punched, kicked and stomped my shed into a pile of junk. Sure the next day I spent most the time fixing it, but at that moment, it felt just as good as sex doing that. Maybe you just need to beat the hell out of something, scream at the top of your lungs for a few minutes, you know, just become that animal we are supposed to be. It might help you out.

Also, after I did that, the doors on my shed closed properly

What I do is sit at my drums and thash the gak out of them. Sometimes it really does help to just beat on something for a while. I've tried all the meditation, deep breathing, grinding stressballs etc and it just doesn't work for me. But it is worth a try, it might work for you.

Something I used to do before I got my drum kit was to get a pillow - preferably and old one, go outside and attach it to the washing line or something equally conveniant and off the ground, then I'd just whack it reapeatedly with a cricket bat.

Try cooking, gardening, or something creative.
Personally, I find it really therapeutic to put my ipod on and paint some minis, It's something that you can concentrate on and keeps your hands busy, that gives you some time to distance yourself from the stress so you can face it objectively when you've cooled down a little.

But I'm no shrink, so whatever works for you.

Well firstly take a deep breath go for a long walk. Think happy thoughts. Be happy you have your parents to help you out. Keep looking for a job and just put it aside it could be worse. Remember if your busy doing something your not thinking of what your stressing about. Also if you can a doctor might be able to help. I hope this helps.

Eat chocolate and hot food. Chillies and chocolate are natural source of endorphin (is that how you spell that?) Basically its the chemical what sit that makes you happy. Not a miracle cure but it might help.

If you really want to get the endorphins flowing, go run until you drop. Strenuous physical activity releases way more endorphins than eating a chocolate bar does, and it's way healthier for you.

So he hasn't got much money and allot of people are recommending smashing up either his own or other peoples stuff - Classic Dakka and the reason why you don't ask the internet (read mostly under 16s) for advice.

In all seriousness take control of the situation, the worst thing you can do is sit there and hope things will improve.

MGS listed some good stuff but I will add;

1. Talk to all of your Debtors. They may not give a gak but they may also understand. Especially a landlord who doesn't want to find new tenants.

2. Go to the Citizens Advice Bureau. I'm sure Bath has a reasonably large one and they will be able to advise you both on your legal position re the £2k and your rights on your tenancy. (Don't google it that’s lazy) There pretty good in my experience and the people that work there aren't just do-gooders but they are more often or not fully qualified professionals (as in Lawyers not head shrinkers).

3. Establish where the debt lies - if it is money you have paid to cover his debt see 4. If it is money he owes to Landlords, Services providers etc but you have paid your share you may not be liable so no need to stress - check with the CAB.

You look youngish from your avatar, I’m guessing your mate is too; which may mean that you/he have had someone stand as guarantor on the rent, usually parents. Talk to them. A surprising number of reprobates will fold when mummy and daddy are on their case.

4. If you are feeling violent - Look your mate in the eye and explain the multitude ways that you will visit that anger upon him if he don't pay up. Do not actually feth him up until you have exhausted all expedient ways of getting your money off of him. If he wes money because of drink/drugs take his stuff (this is poor advice but the fether will eventually lose it anyway so might as well lose it to you).

5. Look for a new place now. If your mate is going stump up the cash good but he will still be a liability in the future. Look for somewhere else to live don't wait for your landlord to kick you out and find yourself on the street/parents.

6. Friends - don't turn into that feller that stands there moaning about how bad everything is for you. A) It means you are obsessing about it, if your with mates take time off and relax and B) who wants to listen to some whinger down the pub.

Finally stress, I don't really understand this. I don't stress about stuff (it really winds my Mrs up though!) so you might want to ignore this.

Mentally there is nothing in your head that can hurt you, anything you feel in the noggin is entirely self inflicted so why do it to yourself? Keep calm and keep focused and try to thread a course that will see you where you want to be. Don't hold back, find the people that can answer your questions (CAB for a start) and work towards your goal.

And think on this the very worst result is back living at your parents (have you told them yet BTW?). This might dent your pride but there are worse positions to be in.

Don't do anything that lets you escape from the problem. Sleeping, drinking, video games, simulated violence, or drugs may lead to a dependence on these things to avoid your problems in real life.

Go out for a run, lift something heavy a few hundred times, do some aerobics (or martial arts if you're so inclined), or otherwise do something productive to get yourself moving and active. While you're doing these things, think about how you can resolve your problem.

Talking to someone else is also a good idea. Just express your feelings of frustration to someone detached from the situation and get their advice.

There are only two ways to resolve a problem. You can either deal with it or tune it out of your mind and pretend it doesn't exist. In most cases the latter will only delay the problem and make it worse.
