Well,

1. The omnipotent narrator of Codex Chaos Daemons and the Eldar codex states that all souls go to the warp.

2. The Emperor has a warp presence and eats souls of pyskers to prevent his physical death.

3. In the Grey Knights omnibus we learn that loyal marines and primach's are expected to return to fight Ragnarok style war in heaven along side the reborn Emperor. Being power psykers and knowledgeable about chaos they should know is chaos claims there souls upon death. Bearing in mind that they do not worship the Emperor as a god.

4. We already know from the Harlequin's that's souls can be spared damnation and merged with a specific patron god.

5. Then we have living saints such as Sabat, Celestine, and Anias. They all canonically died and returned from death multiple times.

6. The gods are just giant storms of soul energy swirling in the warp, one of whom is the Emperor.

7. The point of horrible punishments of such as arco-flagellation and penitent engines, is to cleanse the soul so that the heretic can be consumed by the Emperor upon death. So it seems that ones soul must be pure to join the Emperor.

8. Similarly in the Black Templar Armageddon novels, the chaplain's speak of the Emperor's Champion needing to having a shriven "cleansed" soul when he dies. They then lay hands on him and pray.

It seems pretty obvious that the Emperor can and does protect some human souls from chaos they you die and enter the warp. Can he manage this for everyone? Probably not. The Eccesiarchy and some Space Marine chapters definitely believes that he does, and that the faithful strengthen the Emperor upon death. But the truth is that typical human soul is so anemic and weak that they are unaware of any potential afterlife way. So, even if they do believe that they go to some happy afterlife they are sorely mistaken.

Take Tiberius' example of a Sister Militant acting as a Valkyrie of sorts, for example. Whilst never mentioned in studio canon, the idea that somewhere in the Imperium there is a planet whose people believe this is is entirely plausible, for the Battle Sisters are rarer still than even the Space Marines and as such there will be many worlds where their very existence is shrouded in mystery bordering legend, which can easily lead to a lot of "funny" assumptions simply because people lack experience with the real deal. Another example for this would be people honestly believing the Sisters would eat men (only mentioned in a BL novel, but quite possible due to the aforementioned reasons).

Okay I'm curious where you got the bolded info from.

As far as I knew they were typically orphans from the Imperium's wars that were snagged by the Schola Progenium and not thrown into the Storm Trooper regiments, the Commissariat, or one of the other branches of the Progenium. And since there are quite a few wars fought by the Imperium and thus quite a few orphans I am pretty sure the Adeptus Sororitas would never be THAT short on numbers.

Anyway getting back on topic I'm pretty sure most people in the Imperium (as well as myself) believe that they will eventually go to the Emperor. Perhaps those of greater faith getting there a bit faster.

I think it would vary from culture to culture.

Cadia -may- have a christian-esqe paradise, or a purgatory. Fenrisian mythology says that the dead go to a realm called Morkai which i'm going to gander is -just- like Nifelheim from what i've read etc.

It's a cold, cold place that's seemingly endless that you wander for all eternity.

I'm pretty sure the souls of Imperial humans go into the warp. Or something.

I've sold so many armies. :(

They go to be 'with the Emperor', which is like going to heaven I guess.
