Indeed, it is not at all confirmed that Eldrad is dead. He is however trapped in a blackstone fortress/Talisman of Vaul. Personally I hope they have him escape from/beat up Slaneesh. I dont care how mary sue it might be, the fact that they killed him of during the EoT campaign despite the fact that Eldar did very well is just horrible.
Besides, if Dragio can omgwtfbbq Nurgles garden ect then sure as hell Eldrad should be able to clense a Talisman of Vaul

AS for Eldrad this is probably some dick move he's playing on everyone. Brings me back to a game where my ally had him and he used mind war to kill a bloodthister and KoS also survived till end game thanks to my nob squad serving as bodyguards.

The Last Chancers are an ever-rotating line up of specialist crims. They drop like flies continually, 'Grease Monkey', 'Shiv', 'Rocket Girl', 'Ox', 'Hero', etc. are not literal characters but archetypes that are filled whenever one bites it. Colonel Schaeffer is, however, seemingly immortal.

That was some bloke called Aloysius, commander of Calgar's honour guard; unless I've missed something, he's never been statted.

Schaeffer is still alive, and seems set to live basically forever. Kage is dead, unless his dream came true and he turned into a saint. He would be the best saint ever.
Most of the Tanith 1st characters are dead as well.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it. |

Eldrad's one of the farseers convinced that every eldar dying is contributing to the birth of their death god who'll come and pwn all of chaos... So, him walking to his own demise doesn't seem that surprising. In the EoT book it talks about him dividing his soul into spirit stones which are going lifeless one by one.

Whenever they redo a codex, they tend to rotate out some of the existing special characters and add in a few new ones.
Being dead or not has little to do with it. Your games of 40K aren't supposed to only be taking place in the 'current' time, but at any point since the Heresy. So the fact that a character is 'dead' in the 'current' time has no bearing on their usefullness in the game.

If they advance the storyline as some rumors claim, then I would assume they will invent new Characters. I can't imagine them advancing the storyline at all, Eldrad is too important of a character (he appears in the HH novels and knew the Emperor supposedly well enough to know the Emperors NAME) so I think things will remain stagnated with those characters dead/alive in game turns. But new characters are always being added in.

Unless it was a substantial advance, they wouldn't need all that many new characters anyway. And there still wouldn't be anything stopping people fighting wars in times when those characters were still alive (warp storm time travel)

There have been quite a few more deaths of statted characters in Forge World's Imperial Armour books; Verrant Ortys (Master of the Red Scorpions), Stibor Lanzareck (Master of the Fire Hawks) and Inquisitor Solomon Lok all quite explicitly died in their respective books. Moreover, given that the Siege of Vraks and the Badab War took place 150 and 100 years before the 'present day' of 999.M41, many of their other protagonists could also be presumed by 'now' to have perished.

Huron indeed would be the obvious exception, though the statistics given for him in Imperial Armour IX represent the 904.M41 Tyrant of Badab, rather than the 999.M41 Lord of the Maelstrom statted in the Chaos Marines' Codex..

God forbid they get Cain, he's cool and I genuinely enjoy him and everything but not even close to the man that Ibram Gaunt is. The IoM needs real heroes.
Do we still have Gaunt? I don't remember seeing him in the latest codex.. just Yarrik (who I never really liked).

I presume the OP is really looking for statted, usable characters, so no, I don't think that's what he wants.
Though if we're just throwing in characters mentioned in the background, I'm fairly sure William Shakespeare and Emperor Domitian can safely be assumed to be dead too.
