Your wish is my desire

Here we go:

Here's the ammunition belt pre-assembled. As a goodfella RSJake suggested, i used a Zip Tie and it worked quite well, i guess.
Ofcourse, there's much work to be done yet.

Yay! I'm glad it worked! It looks good! I haven't actually tried this yet, I just thought it would be a great idea after finding one in my tool box and thinking "Hey...this could work for an ammo belt!" I'll definately try it now!

Did you have to heat it up at all to stay in that shape?

Thanks everyone for your comments. I appreciate it.

RSJake wrote:Did you have to heat it up at all to stay in that shape?

Yes. I've tried to soften it by the boiling water first. Than tried to hold it under the lamp... But surprisingly such a heat wasn't enough, so i had to "melt" it on the gas burner and that's why the belt have charred edges. It was kinda tricky to give it a propper shape =)

1-i wrote:Two zip ties glued together then greenstuffed the sides?

Exactly.
I had only one-sided zip tie in my "junk pile" and was too lazy to visit the store, but I want to try an industrial tie aswell as some other options... A quest for perfection isn't that easy, is it? =)

At last, a bit of news, but not about the mini itself this time, but rather about a base for one.
It's known, that the basing is very important for overall impression and this one going to be my first experience of something more serious, than gluing a pinch of sand and few stones on the plastic base, so i want to hear your opinions and advices on this subject, my fellow Dakkers.

It's supposed to be two broken concrete slabs, covered with grit:

PS:
And yes, from some point of view, it is a pinch of sand and few stones glued on a plastic base

Good news, everyone! =)

Excuse me my long absence, fellow Dakkers - I was away from the workbench for quite a while, but now I'm back on a track, filled with enthusiasm to finish what should be finished and start a lot of new projects I bare in my mind. But off with the boring mumbling, there's some pics for you to show:

Not an impressive update, I understand, but at least something to stay in touch =)
Some details were added here and there, but backpack is far from completion yet. I'll throw more rivets and some decoration on this ammo pack.
Also, I wasn't satisfied with the ammunition belt, so I desided to remake it completely. Thanks to my good friend Storag who brought me this pressed end of a tooth paste plastic tube, wich I'm going to use as a fundation.
Here's the base idea for the belt:

Also, my hands were itchy for some painting, so here's another victim of my brush:

Torturing is in process

Well, that's all for now. I hope i'll post more updates soon.

What I'm thinking about is how the ammo tape from this picture you posted will look when transferred to this scale and on this particular mini...
I think that the segments will either be to big and clumsy or to small just like the original relief of that plastic base... I do have a load of orc shoota bullets you might want to glue to the deepenings on front side of the tape. I think they will fit perfectly and it will look like a real ammo belt instead of some abstract geometrical blocks.

The guy with the PF looks like he's performing some Street Fighter move The stripes are too wide for my taste.

Oh my...

I typically will skim read and quickly look at pictures due to limited time... however your assault cannon toting marine made me stop not once, not twice, but three times. I then sat and look at the whole thing in depth for about 3 minutes.

It's an extremely awesome model.

Wow.

Thank you, i'm really flattered.

@storag
Well, I'm going to try some other options on that ammunition belt, until I'll be fully satisfied with the results... All in all, I've got all the time in the world

Anyway, as promised, here's some pics of other ongoing projects:

A long forgotten standard bearer and the concept of his plinth.

And a veteran with concept of unique and "better-than-avarage" plasma gun. I'm going to remove this lanter between his legs and upgrade the plasma and backpack with more details, like additional exhaust system, since the backpack represents some kind of a cooler for the gun

As always, C&C are highly welcomed.

Crap! I've missed a bunch of stuff on here!

LOVE the assault cannon guy! I really like how the Mk III armor looks. The base is great! Very gritty feeling to it, and well executed!

The standard bearer is coming along nicely.

And the plasma gunner is great! The backpack is a neat concept, and you should put some sort of fan or vent on it!

I feel I have run out of words to describe your stuff! I will sound like a broken record soon!

Keep it up! Everything is great!

That's exactly what I want to do. Just cut a two nice vents from some oldschool SM backpack. I will post the pics a bit later though.

Call me a compliment whore, but i can listen to this record all day long
Well, who doesn't anyway...

And of course here comes a little update!

A just finished this Veteran at last and i hope i didn't miss anything:

Also, I made some details for the Assault cannon and added a nameplate to the base for the Heavy guy, as for any unique character in my Army. Added a closeup on the Raven shoulderpad aswell:

I appreciate any C&C.

Vet looks great! I wish my stuff looked as nice. But then I would actually have to spend more time painting and less time converting, and then I would be sad.

Auto cannon guy looks amazing! You are really getting good at the shoulder pad symbol! And the base name plate is a great idea! Consider that stolen!

The Vet looks pretty good!

If you are open to idea's:

I found that the Crux on his right shoulder gets lost in the white, You would almost have more luck going quite dark on the outer rim and then having the light gold in the centre, just to give some definition and distinction.

Well, I'm trying to do my best with every and each miniature I put my brush on, but yes, everyone have it's own way in modeling hobby, e.g. my friend Storag being a great modeller dislikes painting heavily

Steal it away freely. I'm happy you like this idea
I sculpt name plates for every character I deem worthy of unique representation. Some of those you can see in my gallery

Thanks. I always appreciate any critiques.
And yes, I really was a bit lazy with this crux and forgot to wash the outer rim and highlight the inner area of the cross. The miniature is covered with the matt varnish now, but i guess it's okey to paint over it?
I'm thinking about repainting the ribs of the crux with Boltgun metal, wash it with Badab Black and highlight with Silver, while leaving the rim and the scull shining gold.

Your models are absolutely amazing, I really love the mini gun. I know I am a bit late to the party, but have you considered looking at Zinge Industries, they do flexible ammo belts which would have saved you melting stuff.

Hello everyone and today I want to share something new with you

An idea I came up with about a month ago - quite a trivial one, probably, but I like it anyway and decided to start another project, based on this concept: a heavy Stormtroopers, fairly mobile, armoured and bearing a powerfull anti-personnel weapons. Some kind of a cheap replacement for Terminators
So, meet the Shock Squad:

A very early WIP... Yes, I'm doing things slooooow
Here's short version of fluff behind this guys: Shock squad are the main assault force, designed to supress the enemy with intensive storm of fire, mostly in a close quarters, like cities, catacombs or space hulks, thus they are armed with Heavy Bolters of a special pattern, utilizing the suspender-like mechanism wich allows bearers to advance slowly even while shooting their monstrous weapons. Something like activatable Slow and Purposeful special rule with 24" fire range, I guess.
