Good time of a day, fellow Dakkers!

I want to start this post with a little story, a pain even, some of you are accustomed to aswell, probably. The name of this pain is Fine Cast and it hurts.

At first I had no intentions for modding any of the Sword Brethren from GW Fine Cast pack, but their poor quality forced me to. Now there's a new destiny ahead of this "fine" miniatures - they are going to become a bunch of conversions for my collection. So, here we go!

Unfortunately i haven't took a picture of him in his original shape, but this mini was the worst and therefor the first to be refined. It took a time and a bit of green stuff to clean and fix all the manufacturing flaws and made him look like a Blood Raven:

As for the ranged weapon he obviously needed i came up with such an simple and easy idea:

Any feedback is welcome. Thank you.
Hopefully, i will update this post soon =)

Excellnt job on the conversion! I too like the RavenIcon, I also like the new knee pads, they look great.

And looking at all of the green areas that still look to be un-converted, that mini must have been in bad shape!

Raven Icon looks great, and the flame pistol conversion is simple yet efficient, I love it !

Too bad on the Failcrap though, I really fear the moment I'll buy some....

To be honest, I was terrified when I saw this one for the first time: there was just a lot of hollow parts, air bubbles and even more was revealed, when I started to clean it with my knife. Fine Cast seems to be more of a Fail Cast from my point of view... Anyway, this forced Me to convert and I'm kinda happy with the result =)

Well, the result is amazing, so I guess you can at least say FineCast is inspiring!

Very inspiring, indeed!

By the way, i've painted him at last:

And this one will be my next victim:

I think, he will be a great Standard-bearer =)

Anyway, feedback is much appreciated, as always. Thank you.

I hate to critisize, even though I ask for it specifically in my projects, but if it's helpful, I always apreciate it. So...the armor seems to be a bit bumpy, if that is intensional, ignor this comment. But the same look on the cloak makes it look like real cloth! I really like the look of the cloak and robe! And the Raven Icon looks ace! Nice hazard stipes and heat discoloration on the flamer.

Overall, great job. I hope my next project come out as nice!

So do i =)

RSJake wrote:So...the armor seems to be a bit bumpy

The armour is so bumpy because of a horrid quality of the miniature itself and My inattention, since I was busy with fixing the holes in his body mostly and it was too late, when I've noticed this roughness =/
I think it's a good idea to make it looks like it was intentional - a some kind of a battle damage, maybe... But yet I have no idea how to actualize it. I should google it, I guess =)

I'm glad my critique was taken in the spirit it was givien. If you want to make it look like damage, you could paint a splotch of black around the area and then silver or boltgun inside that, making sure to leave a border of black to make it look like the paint was chipped off down to the bare metal. Bumpiness like that would be perfect to make it look like rust, but you probably don't want to go down that route. Be sure to post whatever you decide, I'll be checking back!

Thank you for advice, but this bumpiness is all over the miniature and painting some battle damage over it will make it look like it's more dirty rather than a carefull painted rust or something like that, it seems to Me.
It's kinda an irony, but such effects looks much better on flat areas, in My humble opinion. Even though this is a great idea, I decided to leave Castor for now and head for some other convertions. May be I will be back to him some day later, but till that day it will be just a reminder for Me to be more attentive...

Anyway, it's time for the next Sword Brother to become a Command squad member as a Standard bearer. Here's a picture of some preparations:

Also, I'm thinking about converting this one into Apothecary:

Any ideas will be welcomed.

You are correct of course on the fist guy, it would look more like a Nugle follower after you got it done. Save it for a time when you want to re-convert the whole army!

The Standard bearer looks very good! He looks like he's going to use the standard to put some hurt on someone!

And third mini almost screams apothecary already!

Aye, My first idea was to make some kind of a spear (chain-sword-on-a-pole, more like it) with a waving flag on it, but then I changed My mind towards something more logic and simple.

RSJake wrote:And third mini almost screams apothecary already!

Almost =)
While I was tinkering with miniatures for the last few hours, I got a much better idea, based on Team Fortress 2 medic appearence - some kind of a mad doctor in a lab coat over the power armour. Gotta be a tricky convertion...

Here's an update of Standard bearer:

Also, I'm a huge fan of Fallout universe, especially of the Brotherhood of Steel soldiers in power armour and with miniguns, so I always wondered, why there is no Space Marines with Assault cannons in their arms? Isn't it a classic concept of a heavy guy? From my point of view such a bulky and augmented being, as Space Marine just have to be able to shoot such a gun from the hip, thus, i deside to convert one
Here's what i've done so far:

He's going to be some kind of a Veteran hero, an option for my Command squad, probably... What could be his price in pt, I wonder?

As always, comments and critique are welcomed.

Assault Cannons are pretty pricey, usually.... IIRC, the Assault Cannons are as expensive as Lascannons on Razorbacks, no ?
I think the price you pay for a Terminator Assault Cannon should be good, maybe with a few points off for the Marine not being relentless... which will lower the chances to use it ?

Almost forgot : nice concept btw, heroic pose !

I guess, Slow and Purposeful special rule fits just perfectly for such a model, so it will be +30 pts for this option, or should it be 25, since it's not a fully Relentless?

By the way, i have a little update on him:

A roughly pre-assambled ammo backpack and some fingers to hold the gun itself.
There's going to be an associated feed system on the backpack for the ammunition belt aswell as on the cannon, yet, i have a little idea how to do this belt... Any thoughts?

The pose for the Assault Cannon gunner is awesome! The handle looks good, and the backpack is going to look sweet with a feed belt! As for making said feed belt...it looks like the belts in the back pack are loose, if so, you could make a GS press mold. Then link several of the GS casts together and feed them from the back pack. If they are not loose, I would take a paperclip, or similar wire, cut it into lengths the same as the bullets in the backpack, sand or file one end to be slightly rounded and the other to be more squared off, and attach them together with GS. It would be a lengthy project, but I think it would look good.

Also, you could get a large Zip Tie, one with the ridges on both sides, and cut to fit. It will look like an ammo belt when painted.

I was thinking about something similar to the Heavy Bolter's belts, but a Zip Tie sounds like a plan! Thank you for advices, I'm going to give it a try and, of course, I will post the results... sooner or later.

I think the zip tie could work but you best go with an industrial zip tie, it has wider teeth and would probally 'fit' better.

I utterly love the conversions. Great job all around on them.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!
