In that case, then I'd argue God of War is also an RPG.

I think we may have a difference of opinion. Let's just say that I look at things weirdly, and call it a day.

RPG is bastardized and a name for anything with stats in the video gaming world. That being said, Diablo is considered by most to be an action role-playing game, even if there's little real role-playing involved.

We definitely have a difference of opinion when it comes to hack-and-slash then, but to be honest I prefer games like GoW on consoles.

As for pen-and-paper games, I definitely prefer actual role-playing to hack-and-slash dungeon-delving, but I suppose that's another topic entirely.

Neither the PC or the consoles are going anywhere. Each has their merits; a console is easy to pick up and play, while a PC is good if you like modding and other such activities. This "PC vs. Console" thing is stupid in my opinion. If they can play the same games, then whats the big deal? Go enjoy your games!

Why would he post an inferior example of the genre?

And really, "roleplaying game" has been butchered as a genre to the point that really, no one knows what it means anymore. The only "true" RPGs are probably pen and paper, for the most part, IMO. The concept has been stretched considerably.

I haven't PC-gamed since Diablo 2. I simply don't have the money to afford PC-gaming, nor do I actually have my own computer (This is a shared computer), which is an issue for me. Console gaming is from my perspective the cheaper choice, and with a marginal to nonexistant drop in quality in most cases.

Action RPG=hack-and-slash. All you do in those games is hack, then slash. I'm not sure when that genre got bastardized to mean action platformers like God of War, but it spawned from dungeon-delving games where the primary activity is slicing enemies to pieces.

That analogy is stupid, and it is also stupid.

Hack and slash is a-- in fact, THE-- core gameplay element of diablo. The flight sim elements of battlefield 3 is a side show added on as an afterhought to try to attract more customers.

Claiming Diablo isn't hack-and-slash is like saying Battlefield 3 isn't a shooter.

I love my PC but I really prefer console gaming. Perhaps one day, we'll be able to play RTS games with a controller.

I'm so busy at the moment that I only have time for play and go-type games like LoL. In fact I rarely play anything besides LoL (making me more of a PC gamer than a console one at least at this time) at the

moment, although I want to finish my Fallout games.

You do realize "Hack and Slash" is a term used to describe a game that focuses on combat that is very repetitive right?

While I prefer painting toy soliders, nothing will beat the megadrive/genesis for me.

Anyway nostalgia aside PC - when a console comes out spend the equivalent (£100-300) on a graphics card and you're sorted for 5 years.

Also pc's games are more easily moddable.

3 reason that PC gaming is doing fine.
1) Modding ... while console games remain the same PC games are always open to improvement by the fans.
2) Price ... In the uk a new Xbox game retails at about £40 the same game on the PC is £35 or £30. PC title also loose value quicker.
3) Preowned is killing the industry. Preowned games are as bad as pirate games, no money from their sales makes it back to the developer. PC games get round this by making their software register for a single user.

Penumbra is first-person-perspective horror game with various puzzles (physics, logic, block, etc) in it. If you've played Amnesia: Dark Descent it's basically like that, except set in an arctic underground base rather than an ancient castle.



Diablo has RPG elements, but there is no roleplay in it, therefor it is not an actual RPG. This is because "rpg elements" is a stupidly broad definition-- an experience bar does not make something an RPG. If that's the case, Call of Duty: Black Ops is an RPG. Heckj, in both Diablo and CoD:BO, you spend XP to purchase upgrades, attacks, and skills-- they MUST be RPGs!

The Diablo series is a simple hack and slash style game, not an RPG.
