Some of the confusion is that not only did he use a non-standard definition he didn't completely define it, leaving one very important prameter undefined.

I normally don't use non-GW models for my armies, but I am considering some non-GW models for heros for my O&G list, mostly from Avatars of War.

But like others have said, using non-GW models is not "proxying."

How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg? Four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg.

In the way the OP means proxy then I would suggest another entry into the poll, "Totally, my army doesn't have a GW model in it".

By your definition (which is not the common definition, meaning using a box as a tank, or saying a PF is a PW, or using a SM as a Necron, ect.) , I "Proxy" a few WGF squads in my IG army.
By the general definition, I do not proxy in most games, only if I feel like testing out something new with a friend.

Edit: I think your poll is probobly pretty skewed, as many people are answering it meaning the more general definition.

Most historical rules sets are played with armies cobbled together from various manufacturers and people think nothing of it, why should a fantasy game be different?

'Proxying' to me means using a bottle for a drop pod. And I don't do that.

Yes I think there is some confusion here. I would take out 'proxy' from the title - I think most people will look at that, and think of this kind of thing:

Looking at the text in the opening post (which I think unfortunately a lot of people wouldn't have read and will have just clicked an option), a better title might be
"Do you use miniatures from other manufacturers in your GW games".

EDIT: And of course I Failed to read the OP, lol.

I used to use a Scibor model for my space marines army but I gave those to my friend when he started the hobby, so at present I don't

Are you able to change the title to exclude the word 'proxy' altogether? I fear many posters will just come barreling through and click without reading the OP, as I almost did!
Such are the generally negative preconceptions regarding the word 'proxy'.

I do.
80+% of my IG army is not GW (Wargames Factory, Pig Iron Productions and Old Crow models, with a couple of Infinity or Warmachine models thrown in as well for characters). ALL are representative of their GW counterparts.

My GK has a handful of non-GW models in it. Jokaero, crusaders, various other henchpeople and my Stormraven is a scratchbuild because I don't like the thunderguppy (with the CHS expansion, it almost looks passable, but the original kit is still overpriced).

My SM has virtually no proxies (the box launchers for the whirlwinds WERE made from 50mm square monster bases, spare hatches and plasticard though - copied and adapted from the original WD plans).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I've got a few bags of Clan War Samurai that I'm going to turn into a High Elf army at some point, though I'm naturally going to be careful to make sure their weapons match up (spearmen for spearmen, 2-handed no-dachis for Greatswords, etc). I don't put much stock in GW's "must only use official models" since I wouldn't play in a GW store to save my minis' life.

I do my best to respect my opponents' eyes and coordination, though, so whenever I use non-traditional minis I try to at least make sure that there is some correlation between what the rules suggest and what is being fielded. For instance, if I didn't already have a bag full of unpainted Eldar warlocks, I would totally be using a unit of the House Mages from the Retribution in Warmachine as Eldar psykers, but because they look the part.

Along the same lines, I recently completed a "War Cat" for my Warmachine Khador army, using a leftover mini from Clan War.

(Yes, I have a lot of minis from that game.)

No option for, "I sometimes proxy GW figures in other games."

Which is what I do sometimes as and when required.

I'm planning on doing a WFB Dwarf army that is going to be 95% non-GW. I'll be using a mix of Gamezone, Hasslefree, Reaper and Scibor miniatures.

Partly because of the trade embargo, but really because I don't like the current design aesthetic of GW dwarves. I will buy some old OOP GW dwarves, which are more similar in design, and slip them in amongst the other so if I want to play in a GW store if required

Yep. I use a Crocodile Games Scarab-Ogre for my Tyranid Prime. It's got six limbs, but the shell is chunkier than that of the usual Warrior model, so it's easy to pick out of the unit.

Just take off the arms and replace with devourers and bone swords. It really looks good.

"If you really want to know what it was like, to fight in the air in the great War, then go up to someone you have never met and who has never done you the slightest harm and pour a two-gallon tin of petrol over them. Then apply a match, and when they are nicely ablaze, push them from a fifteenth-floor window after first perhaps shooting them a few times in the back with a revolver. And be aware as you are doing these things that ten seconds later someone else will quite probably do them to you. This will exactly reproduce... the substance of First World War aerial combat and will cost your country nothing. It will also avoid the necessity of ten million other people to die in order for you to enjoy it."

I use bits from other companies in conversions, mostly Battletech minis. Some of the weapons have an interesting look to them.

I have a few Warzone and Spacelords figs in my Blood Angels army. They are converted, so most folks would probably just assume they are RT era figs.

Excuse the juvenile paintjobs, they were painted when I was a teen. Someday I plan to decal, dip and base them properly.

I haven't added them yet, but I also have a squad of these Legions of Steel figures that I will be using as Ogryn in my all-gasmasked IG army.

This is in addition to the platoon worth of shockforce not-cadian figs I aluded to earlier that will be doing double duty as additions to my IG army and a skirmish army of their own.
