Necrodermis is a material of unknown origin and chemical or molecular structure that possesses the extraordinary ability to regenerate almost all damage instantaneously, "flowing" back together as if it were a liquid while closing bullet holes, mending gashes and tears, or even reattaching severed pieces with little delay. The material is also adaptive in some unknown fashion and can learn to repair itself given enough time from nearly any form of damage, even a blast powerful enough to reduce it to its constituent molecules or atoms. In addition to the bodies of the C'tan and the Necrons themselves, all Necron vehicles and starships are made from Necrodermis, including Monoliths and Necron Pylons. The Imperium's C'tan Phase Weapons are also crafted from Necrodermis. It should be noted that Necrodermis is not an alloy of other metals but a fundamentally new material created by the Necrontyr. Necrodermis is unbelievably resilient, and can absorb incredible amounts of damage and then reform all tears or punctures over a period of time.
If it is indeed Necrodermis that Ferrus contracted and it did indeed get inside his body then he definitely could regenerate his head, although he would probably have a metallic head.

I'm sure the Necrons have a way of bringing a soul back from the Warp, how else do they make new Necrons.
It fits too well, especially with Ferrus and Iron Hands philosophy of Machine=Better.

His (Ferrus Manus') body was never recovered after Istvaan. There used to be a rumor about it being taken to Mars mysteriously in the fluff.

Necrons 'souls' are teleported back to the production facility. They could get an entirely new body. At least that's what I can remember about it. Ferrus's soul will have dissipated into the Warp, it's not coming back even if his head, which is obviously still flesh, could be re-grown.

And who's to say the Necrons didn't recover him? Also what if their trip to Mars for the void dragon didn't also end in them retrieving Ferrus' body which has Necron metal in it, surely they would be intrigued.

Don't necrons discard the soul during the process? Or was that just for pariahs?
I recall in the 3rd codex there was some sort of "ritual" that was performed by the Necrons that involved the removal of the soul.
Either way, they wouldn't have a way of restoring a soul using the warp, as the Necrons have no contact with it. Hopefully they still hate it as well in the new fluff.

Fulgrim presented his head to Horus as a trophy and as a sign of trust. His body is simply not mentioned. It doesn't say it wasn't found, or anything like that.

I've just had a horrible though of his head being used as a..."toy".
Thank you for that image.
Maybe it's the angry marine primarch? Hell, that makes as much sense as all the other options.

IA Iron Hands
The body of Ferrus was never found, however, and many believe he somehow survived. One particular story is that his wrecked body was rescued and restored, and that he took refuge on Mars where he resides still, though this is violently refuted by the Iron Hands themselves.
the moment the Emperor fell, the psychic shockwave was felt with such intensity that it reached Ferrus, even though he had left the realm of Man. An image of Ferrus appeared before his Legion, and his anguish and despair was unimaginable. It is said that this apparition spoke of his fears for Mankind. He spoke of a great calamity, a darkness that would assail humanity at some unforeseen moment in the future, and his promise that he would be there to lead humanity through its trials of darkness.
And that Darkness was ... HAVING NO HEAD

I think that the writers are trying to insinuate that it might be a primarch. I don't think it matters since the codex probably won't identify who it is, but it certainly adds an element of interest to the codex. It seems pretty brilliant to me, because now GW can generate interest in robot zombies amongst SM fanboys.
I'm going to throw this out there, since I didn't see it in an earlier post, but what if it's one of the missing primarchs?

Eh, I think you're accusing the wrong person. I'm completely against the idea of Ferrus in his current role in the fluff, because he's dead after being beheaded by Fulgrim. I would support Vulkan and have said as much already, but of course, you must have missed that part when you didn't read anything posted before. I've also said it's not absolutely definitely a Primarch. All I've said is that it seems obvious that the writer is trying to drop hints that the Necrons have captured a Primarch. The phrases 'giant' and 'baroque armour' aren't what make it obvious to me. Firstly, it's deliberately written to be vague. Secondly, the location of the missing Priamrchs and other mysterious things like that (the origins of chapters being the other most obvious example) are ideas some writers like to add to the fluff just to spice it up a little. Ward has done it twice already. Thirdly, do you know of any missing Space Marines that seem important or worthy enough to put in the book like this? I don't. Vulkan, Corax, Russ, and distantly and very unlikely, Ferrus, are all Primarchs that are technically unaccounted for. Whilst I agree the chances of it being Ferrus are next to null and I disagree that it even could be him in his current role, a dead, headless body with hands coated in a metal that was around long before Necrodermis had even been put in the fluff. IF his body was suddenly unaccounted for, and his hands were coated in Necrodermis, I would say maybe, as it kind of fits.

You can't say 'it's obvious what the writer is trying to imply' because it isn't and that's the point it being a primarch is on the low end of the scale when it comes to what it might be.

Inquisitor
Rogue Trader
Xenos
Captain Noiran of the Sable Swords is currently MIA and believed to be alive. (That's fairly common knowledge or at least easy to find since it's in the SM codex.)

Inquisitor would maybe be a good example. Rogue Trader? Dismissed on account of being stupid. Why would a Rogue Trader be captured by the Necrons, and be important enough to be in the codex as a MacGuffin? There is no reason, before you try to respond. Also, when do see many giant, important, baroque armoured Rogue Traders in the fluff? You barely ever see a regular one.
Since this is apparently a man, Xenos is another dismissed example, on account of a Xenos not being a man.
Now, there we go, an actual example, although I would doubt he's common knowledge or important enough to be a MacGuffin.

Rogue Traders come in many forms. None are like another so it's perfectly reaosnable for one to have power armour. Maybe the Tomb Lord has decided he is useful in learning about the Imperium or fighting it.
Does it actually say man? If it does i'm mistaken.
I'm just saying they are more possible than primarchs mainly because there are lots of Rogue traders and Inquisitors and not many primarchs... if there are any left.

Nah, I don't think it is. Power Armour isn't something you can go and buy. But again, I have never ever seen a Rogue Trader have a significant role in the fluff, and then go missing.
Apparently it's a "giant of a man in baroque power armour". So, it's probably a Space Marine, or a Primarch.
Yes, there are more Inquisitors and Rogue Traders, but the point of this is to stir up speculation about a named character in the fluff that was very prominent or important and that suddenly went missing, and has been for a long time. Primarchs fit this, and the description given so far.
