That is a huge distinction.
No, it IMPLIES he is a long fang. It also implies that
GW didnt want people thinking you could give the sarge a heavy weapon as well.
No.
The unit is a Unit of Long fangs, the unit of long fangs is made up of 1-5 "Long Fangs", and 1 "Squad Leader"; but every model in the unit is still a Long Fang.
This is exactly the same as Dark Eldar Reavers: which is a Unit of Reavers made up of 3-10 "reavers", and 1 of which can be upgraded to an "arena Champion"; but every model in the unit is still a Reaver(The same actually goes for every single unit in the Dark Eldar List, I single out Reavers as they have upgrade options for both "every 3 "models" in the unit, and one Model/ 3 "Reavers"; which both mean exactly the same thing, since they are all reavers).
To say anything else would deny the Mandrake "Nightfiend" his 5++ save(as the save is granted to "Mandrakes"; which he is by virtue of being a member of a mandrakes unit made up of "Mandrakes" and a "Nightfiend"); And I am more than certain we can find many more examples of unit and basic trooper names being identical and the unit members all(including upgrade characters) receiving a special rule that calls for the unit-name to be affected.
