I actually asked Victoria Lamb about sculpting, but she's currently too busy with her own stuff right now. Nothing set in stone just yet but Patrick Keith will most likely be doing my first few sculpts. He's been interested since the beginning and he's done great stuff over the years for Reaper and more.

I'd love to do multi part models, because configuring your gang however you want is like the heart of the whole game. But I think it will be tougher to pull off with metals. And since no one is wearing uniforms, it will be tougher to make separate pieces that match. It works great for a box of Cadains, but here your gang might have 2 guys in dusters, 2 guys in suits, 1 guy with no shirt at all, so arms won't all be able to match up right just because of the clothing. We'd need to have separate arms for all types of clothing, and then separate arms for women too. So, for the first bunch of models I'd want to keep things easier (and cheaper for me to produce) by going with monopose models for the henchmen, and then maybe having 1 or 2 extra arms or hands with different weapons for the professionals. And I'll also have a weapon sprue or 2 that people can order if they want to do conversions.

But anyway for sculpting pretty much every good sculptor I talked to is charging around $300-400 per fig depending on complexity and detail, then for getting the models produced it's around $200 per master mold and that can fit several figures, and then like $60-80 for production molds that will be 1 per fig. And then getting the models cast is based on the always changing cost of metal, the blister packs, printing up the backing cards, etc. I think what I'm going to do now is just get me a new credit card to fund the first round of minis. Then I'll have some stuff in production so people won't think the game is vaporware, and then I'll set up a Kickstarter to recoup those costs and also fund the next round.

I just ordered up 4 of the MDF laser cut buildings from Sarissa, they look really great and I love how they have interiors too. I'm still planning out some papercraft buildings too, they'll be just some basic shops and cabins and that sort of thing

I was going to ask if you had contacted Rendall Patton he is an amazing sculptor. And is currently doing some work for a bloke called Ian Hanratty or someone. But what scale are you interested in he normally does 54mm scale figures. I could get you pictures of some of his models if you like. He s my dad so it easy for me to as him and stuff. But for a 54mm figure he normally charges around £300 atleast which will be some thing like $400 or something. But im not sure. Also not sure if cowboys maybe his sort of thing he mainly does figures of soilders and stuff but he has done other stuff to. BTW when GW make models they get extreme detail by getting huge masters and then scanning them and shriking them to make their moulds.

http://www.grenadier.f9.co.uk/iemins/romancent.htm That is a roman centourian he sculpted a few years ago. I can gett more pictures if you pm me. Here is another I pulled up from the internet.

Just type in his name or Rendall Patton sculptor and you will find some links of some of his models. He worked for a company called Time Machine Minatures for some time and has worked for some of the top modeling companies in the world. He even made one for GW but the model line was cut so it was never produced haha them they still had to pay all the different sculptors though lol.

But making a minature wargame is expensive even more so when you are just starting.

EDIT: You probably won't but if you do contact him just send him an e-mail/invoice but don't mention that I told you about him just don't mention me at all. You probably wouldn't have mentioned me anyway but just to be on the safe side i edited this post.

Necros, I assume you have checked out the Sculptors for Hire thread over at http://www.frothersunite.com/?

Also, recommend you check out Gael Goumon (http://mandragoreminiatures.free.fr) did a number western themed of sculpts for Wyrd Miniatures. Don't know what his current status is.

Otherwise, good luck on your game

Thanks, and yeah I was posting on Frothers a few weeks back and heard from a few great sculptors. I ran into Pedro Ramos there, I hope to have him do some sculpts for me too. Love his goblins

My only real issue right now is cash, of which I have none. So I'm trying to plan everything out now so I can get some great minis the most affordable way for me since it will take a while to actually start making a profit to the point where I can afford to get a lot more done.

I'm thinking what I will probably do is just get myself a new credit card for the first few sculpts, and then do a Kickstarter after I have a couple of releases, to recoup those costs plus fund the next round of sculpts. I know if it were me, I wouldn't want to pledge cash for a game that's still pretty much vaporware, so I'm thinking if I can show there's real products being made, more people will want to support the game.

I'm pretty excited for you, Necros! I'll have to remember to download the rulebook when I get home, but I wanted to see if you have any league or tournament rules in there besides the standard game mechanics. Things like that would be great to have from the start in the book.

As far as terrain, check out Rusty Rail for a line of 'O' scale model rail road resin items that have a great look. I'm thinking about picking up some for Malifaux in the new year.

http://rustyrail.com/CastingsOScale.htm

Also, something I'd suggest is having a regular video presenese online. If i remember correctly you have a background in video production and I think it would be awesome if you put together some videos introducing the game and explaining how to play online. You'd have a way to demo the game 24/7 for anyone who was interested.

Also, have you considered seperate hands instead of arms? I know Necromunda went that way at one point. What about seperate heads too? Having models with no options does help to make them characterful, but for skirmish scale games where characters can evolve, the more options the better.

Best of luck!

Thanks

I did have a campaign system in the previous version of the game. I decided to remove it for now, but it will come back as an add-on thing. I wanted the core rules to be simpler and more balanced. But the campaign rules are pretty simple. For example if you want to add a henchman to your gang, all of his attributes (Strength. Stamina, etc) start with 1, and you get 10 points to spend raising them however you want. In a campaign, everything stays as 1's, and after each game you earn XP for kills or scenario objectives, and every 5 XP you can add 1 new point somewhere. And you also earn money to buy better weapons, hire special characters, etc.

And yes once I get some models together and the game starts moving I'll be trying to organize some tournaments. Toying with the idea of noob-gang tournies with 5 man gangs on a 2x2 table that will make the games fast and lethal.

One thing for tournaments though, is I'm going to be using these same exact rules for a whole lot of different game settings eventually. So I'm wondering if it would be fun to have a wild west gang going up against a raiding party of evil xmas elves, or space pirate martians with rayguns, or apocalypse mutant people, or mobsters running around with tommyguns. That's a long, long way off, but just something I have in the back of my head.

For the rules though I think the next thing I intend to do is get the army builder files finished. I just started messing with them, but I think it'll be a lot easier to build a gang that way, and then once that's all working right I'll put together the extra campaign stuff and then take it from there

Hmm that's strange. I just looked and it seems like you have a an active account, try and log in again and see if it works? Maybe you had a typo when you put in your email address, but the system still activated your account?

edit: I got an email saying you're signed up so it should be working

As far to the east you can get without being in Canada.

Sorry if I'm late on this, but have you looked into 3d printing? You would need a graphic 3d art model but the up front cost of the printer might be worth it if you could find someone who could do 3d drawing for you.

I thought about 3D printing actually, but I was under the impression that 3D would be better for plastics, and I could get a better looking sculpt of a regular person with plain ole greenstuff. Like, 3D would be better for less organic things like robots or things that should all be more uniform.

Talking with a sculptor right now actually and should have some preliminary sketches hopefully in a couple of days

I looked on your site and the game looks very cool. If you do have campagins at some time in the future, do me a big favor and put one up about this guy.

ha.. great story. Cap'n Davis is pretty much what the game is all about

I'm putting together add on campaign rules now that should be done soon. I'll be doing special hired guns too, he'd make a good one

As for the rules, if all goes well tonight I will have an updated version finished with a few minor rules tweaks and typo fixes, and I should have the print-on-demand books ready to go either tonight or tomorrow.

Gotta get it all done before Skyrim comes out on friday and sucks my life away
