Started with High Elves and Skaven in 5th ed (I only just traded my Skaven off a few months ago). When 6th came out I started Empire and Orcs and goblins (traded orcs and now have a Goblin army). With 7th ed started Bretonians (also traded) and Beastmen (mixed with some daemons and mortals) With 8th started WoC and Lizardmen.
Now, my favorite two are Empire and WoC.

I started with wood elves about 10 years ago and hated them, got out of wargaming for awhile and now I'm getting back into it with Skavens and although I haven't played a game yet since i'm still assembling them all I'm enjoying the assembly and soon the painting.

Horus. For the second most perfect being in IoM, he totally got played by a few joes and his own ego. Not to mention "theres to much paperwork" crybaby attitude. Oh and how when someone accuses your father of treason you kill half the galaxy and attack him. USE YOUR WORDS!! - psyklone |

I have about 3.5k of Daemons Painted. About another 1k Unpainted. Going to need to paint up another horde of Letters. And then I'll likely hold on them for a while.
High Elves are severely unpainted, likly going to be playing them in next years escalation must be painted league.

I've currently got a Daemons of Chaos in production, but, as for playing, I've been hitting Dark Elves hard and switching back and forth with my WoC

Haven't played in a while, but I have 1k in ogres and 2 sets of the dwarves from the dwarf vs. goblin starter set (don't know which edition it was). I have played a most with the ogres, and I can't bring myself to play anything else. big, hard hitting, multiwound dudes with fear, gotta love that. I would like to try the dwarves, but honestly I would miss the fatguys too much. Also they are relatively cheap (monetarily) to play since they field so few models of gnoblars. Gnoblar screens are a fun tactic, but I generally avoid it, since I would rather have more Bulls.

That's a surprisingly good spread. Thought there were more DoC out there though, keep hearing about them being a real force in tournies.

They are.
Them doing well in tournaments has nothing to do with there being tons of daemon armys. Its that they have a higher win ratio.

They took a massive beatdown from 7->8th. And they have, IMHO, not all that many really viable builds. What they DO have is extremely powerful. But as a player, it might get a tad dull.

I play Empire Marienburg, just love how I can make a really themed list using the Empire book, and it still have a good chance of doing well- few things in the book SUCK
I too am surprised that DoC don't have a higher following. Were it not for the fact that a bog-standard box of troops would set me back £18, I'd be doing a nice converted/themed Slaanesh list I think
Cheers

I have a Dwarf army that I used to play tournaments with in 7th that needs some adjustments for 8th which I'm not that motivated to sort out until GW release plastic hammerers.
Fully painted though!
I also have a fully painted Orc and Goblin army, which again, needs modification for 8th that I'm not motivated to make :(.
And I am working (slowly) on an all cavarly/beasts/fast moving monsters WoC army. I know it will suck but I really like the models.
Also have a KoW undead army that I haven't counted.

definitely closer to equal than 40k where the disparity of % would be greater by a large margin. Especially if you combined Imperium of Man marines.
I always think it's interesting to see the differences in local meta game army stats and these usually balanced national/worldwide polls. In my area, O&G double the 2nd most played army, which is basically a 3-way tie between Beastmen, Ogres, and Dwarfs. Skaven and Lizardmen not far behind. Elves, undead, and humans are nearly non-existent (a few HE, WoC, and VC players, but no where near the amount of the first ones mentioned).

I have a few scraps of Dwarves and VC, but my main love, and also my newest army is my Beastmen that I have just started in this edition. They are hard to play, but I really love the fluff and the models, I just hope that they don't get the Wood Elf treatment and go a decade without an update.

Vampire Counts.
When I got back into the hobby last year, my goal was to get stuck into my favorite armies that I started way back in the 90's but didn't continue with due to not being able to afford them. For 40k it was Tyranids, for Fantasy it was a bit harder - Undead. They were still a single army when I was playing Fantasy two decades ago.
I had two choices, Tomb Kings or Vampire Counts. I went with Vampires because they're more a general 'Undead' army. All they're missing is mummies. They get skeletons, zombies, wights, wraiths, ghosts, necromancers, obviously vampires and all manner of batlike things for that theme. Tomb Kings is a very select subset of Undead, focussing on mummies, skeletons and animated constructs, which didn't strike me as the undead I wanted to play.

it probably won't be that bad, but they will probably be last in line because they, and skaven, were the last army books released before 8th edition came out.
Beastmen were one of those armpit army books that were made in 7th with 8th in mind, unfortunantly they were made before 8th was fully finished so they were created with a slightly different rules set in mind. Based on rules that were changed or removed before the final cut was made.
You never want to be the army book released just before a new edition comes out, unless you come out a month or so ahead of the edition release, because that means the edition was finshed before your book was completed.
