One thing a friend and I have thought of, a tactic that will either fail horribly or work brilliantly. Combining a doom scythe and a unit of Lychguard with dispersion shields and lord with orb.
Get the lychguard within 6" of whatever you want to kill and fire the doom scythe at the lychguard instead, then you can bounce all the shots off the guard into whatever you want to kill. The great thing is that shot is multiplied exponentially, the 10 man unit of lychguard turn the one shot into 10 shots, and depending on how many saves you make. So if you're fighting any monstrous creature which would laugh off one S10 shot now has 10 coming at them and when firing at tanks it means you don't have to worry about the random length of the death ray hitting multiple tanks since the dispersion shields don't all have to be aimed at the same unit.
And bonus, if the length of the ray ends up being long enough you can hit your target and the guard that can in turn hit the target again with the same shot.
Whichever lychguard don't make their saves then get back up again with a 4+ RP since it happens in every phase, including your own (hopefully you won't wipe out your whole squad in one go). For extra insurance you can even put a cryptek with a chronometron in the squad, though he'd be more vulnerable to the death ray.

I haven't seen anyone post this yet, but it should be noted that the Command Barge can carry ANY Independent Character. Not all IC's can take the barge as dedicated, but, for instance, Zandrek can take a barge, and let Obyron hop in it first turn, then give the thing stealth/tank hunter/whathaveyou.
This gets really absurd if you're playing a friendly doubles game for grins. Imagine a Slaaneshi CSM Lord with a Bliss Giver tooling around in an Egyptian Space Zombie chariot? Clipping Avatars and Tervigons in 1 pass.

There's a lot of rules you're getting wrong in this post. Please re-read the codex.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Such as what? The only thing I can see is the dispute over how models in a unit the death ray might hit.

I think he means about targeting the lychguard with the death ray.
Strictly speaking this is a BRB error, AFAIK you cannot ever target one of your owns units with a a shooting attack, so that trick breaks the rules

Doom Scyth, Death ray Does not target a Model/unit... it targets points on the board.
If the 1 line of death it creates between 2 points runs over friendly models or even hits a unit in CC, why would it not effect?
Again, the target is not specific units, its point within 12" that stretchs to a point 3d6 away
Termies TH/SS Vs. Scarabs with outside interference from a Doom Scyth

However if you read the death ray it say both friendly and enemies hit by the death ray. Since the death ray doesn't target a specific unit, it just lays down a line on the ground.

I'd try it myself, but I just KNOW that if I do, I'm going to fail all 10 invulnerable saves.
